QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Sox could acquire some bonus pool money. It will be small but help. They have like almost $1 million still. Lets say they trade for $2 million in pool money. Then pay Robert $20 million. They'd pay a tax of $17 million. Does that make sense? I wonder if there are teams with that much left. That is excellent leverage for some cheap arms.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) That's not good enough for Reddy. Pressure applies both ways.

I remember watching this on a phone at a backyard bbq. The best part was thinking Humber was about to take off, and in fact he was about to fall apart for good. Nice guy though.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Yes. That sucks. I don't know how you could play with that but this dude came back in 2 days after dislocating his elbow.

Just very disappointed for Rondo. Is it his shooting dominant hand?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) Without knowing the exact numbers, I'm guessing only a couple mill. Edit: just checked. We were allotted $2,973,500 for this period so even less than I guessed haha Source: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/04/mlb-...onus-pools.html Edit 2: here is how much we have spent already: Josue Guerrero, of, Dominican Republic (No. 33 prospect), $1.1 million. Luis Mieses, of, Dominican Republic (No. 36 prospect), $428,000. Anderson Comas, of, Dominican Republic (No. 37 prospect), $450,000. These 3 didn't have amounts, so I'm guessing under $300k. Lenyn Sosa, ss, Venezuela Jenderson Caraballo, rhp, Venezuela Anthony Coronado, of, Venezuela We actually signed 20 players, most for basically nothing. Southsidesox says we have $1 million left. So, if we offer 10 million (nice round numbers) we pay effectively $19mill. Negligible, I think the total spend for FA classes is more important. When you are already paying $10 mill in tax another $30 mill can feel worse.

My pet theory about the decline of the White Sox is they were not prepared for the sudden decline of vets in their 30s. They had so much success getting bounce backs and good play well into age 35-36 seasons, and when that went away, the bottom fell out fantastically. They weren't a team that could compete for prime age free agents, and did not have an intl presence or farm. I don't think they reckoned with the fact that their pro scouting framework no longer applied until very recently. 2000-2010 white sox success: - Identifying major-league ready but blocked prospects - Identifying cheap veterans - Continued production from an aging core. How many apply now?

Here's what I think If the CLE takes Garrett and San Fran (or whomever) takes Thomas: - Bears take a QB If Cle takes Garrett and San Fran takes Fournette or something silly: - Bears take Thomas - Bears trade into late first and get Mahomes/Kizer. But I think they'll end up with a QB at 3.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Of course. Sorry I took the bait again. I will stop now. Wasn't a warning of any sort, just deep, personal dissatisfaction. I was hoping you all wanted to continue to read my different iterations of why the market will not be as rich as we think and why the white sox will sign. I still had many more ways to write basically the same thing.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) I'm sorry mags. I shed a tear for all of us.

And the thread takes the inevitable turn to Jerry Reinsdorf culture of losing pissing match.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) Including the 100% tax it could be close (not that I think it will go that high). I know I seem to be the bear for his market, but I just don't see it going much higher than $20 mill pre tax, and anything over that becomes considerable in terms of increments.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Everyone has a right to their opinion but at the same time, will those who turn out to be entirely wrong come back here and admit that they were wrong ? I doubt it. Reinsdorf is a billionaire who signed the largest Contract with a pro athlete in its time with Michael Jordan. On the other hand, JR does not believe that spending more than other teams guarantees a championship. He has been burned by any number of player Contracts for the Sox and Bulls. Thus, he proceeds with caution and requires team management to perform due diligence on these players, especially when a lot of money is involved. My own opinion is that JR will tell Hahn to go after Robert lkie a b1tch and that money will not be an issue. The Sox appear to be a perfect fit for this player. There are some things that make me more optimistic: - I do think JR is more cautious on Intl talents due to youth. That Robert is 19 years old makes him more likely to spend - Yes, sox have never signed someone over 68 million, but, Robert will not cost over 68 million - The CBA has already changed, so he has cost certainty moving forward in both the MLBAM draft and the INTL FA signings. As with signing Rodon over, I think it makes it more likely he plays outside his normal operating lines BUT, the white sox don't operate in a vacuum. Some other team just may want him more. I don't know that I'd pay Moncada money for robert, I probably would not. But then I'd hope we trade for a ful INTL slot to go after Otani.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) Alright. Well you aren't really being rational. It's a fun argument when signing Viciedo, Ramirez and Abreu doesn't matter, but that also being high in final biddings for Soler and Tanaka also doesn't matter, because the point is don't you understand the white sox are cheap and you can't prove otherwise? I hope white sox sign him, but it also is a little bit of doubt for me considering both Law and Longenhagen are not that high on him. BA seems to be the outlier. And there is basically no international competition to speak of, other than a very low level indy showcase.

This isn't even an argument I want. I generally like Sanders. I think it does take a lot to really pull an institution like the Democratic party out of its status quo. BUT, if Sanders fans want to know what annoys me most, it's acting like there was no progressive movement in the democratic party prior to them mentioning it. To look at the 2012 platform vs. the 2004 one is crazy. To look at it vs 1996 even crazier. I hated Bill Nelson, Ben Nelson Mary Landreiu, Blanche Lincoln so much. But, as much as they made ACA much worse, they still voted for it. They made it capable to pass things. So yeah, I'll take a congress with people like this again, so don't primary Joe Manchin just to prove a point.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) What a bulls*** article. Figures Democrats would "be sick of Sanders". Why would you want to listen to the politician with the highest approval rating in the country. Maybe they should get sick of Pelosi of Schumer. Just a reminder the under the 2 years of Pelosi as speaker she passed a Health Care bill, a cap and trade bill, dodd-frank, lily ledbetter, DREAM act immigration reform bill and a stimulus package. I.e. more progressive work than Sanders has come close to.
-
The demands that democrats running in WV or Georgia red districts need to be as progressive as those in Vermont will not end well. I'm on team Markos right now, but considering how wrong I was on 2016 election I'm not going to say Sanders is wrong. I do like that he believes the progressive message works anywhere. I continue to dislike that he can act like he is more of a progressive champion than Tom Perez, who has accomplished much more.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) But Utah Republicans are expecting him to resign soon? Utah Republicans expect Chaffetz to resign twitter rumors about an affair but who knows That makes most sense. Weird when Congressman don't finish terms since it's only 2 years.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) True. But eventually the Sox will need this type of player. Since they take longer to develop, if they have a shot at one they really like they should do it. They can't go so conservative that they miss out on a really good player just because they've picked the wrong ones in the past. This is why they get paid the big bucks. I'm torn between logically agreeing with you but also being equally as nervous as shipps about actually trying to develop a hitter like Adell.
-
Yeah wow that looks very difficult for a 4-12 record.
-
That escalated quickly. I wonder what the hell happened.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/222594028/pi...picid=151437456 Surprised to hear his speed rated as average considering some of those times from his last showcase.
-
I feel like Adell is a Pirates pick and one they'll have success with. Feel the opposite for him with Sox. Definitely talented and the type of player you would hope to be able to take a chance on, but I'd prefer Haseley or one of the college pitchers.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) In addition, as we found out with the Moncada trade, those tax payments on overages are not due within the immediate year after a signing, the Red Sox still were paying off the $31.5 M tax they owed. I don't think this is accurate.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) That's good for Trump, but that seems really, really bad for a whole lot of House Republicans who aren't necessarily in the safest districts that would be forced to vote for it. Which is why I don't see a vote even happening, or it not passing. A whole lotta vulnerable republicans can campaign on being straight shooters who voted against the Presidents health care bill.
