Super frustrated

Good lord, Greg, try to have some empathy for others. You are saying their mere existence around you is a personal affront. Imagine if you had a burn or disability and had others avoiding you and saying the same about you? The person didn't hop in the car with you, they were just trying to order a sandwich.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) This could be an ugly game.. They may indeed lose. But the team continues to go out and play professionally with good pitching and bullpen. That will win you a lot of games.

Wow, I wonder if that means his seat is polling hot in WI. That would be a shocker.

Loved seeing a tweet like "I've interviewed coaches who almost gleefully tell me they stopped recruiting a player because of twitter. Happy to see it on other foot"

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) Don't panic, there were some players not linked to teams. And some of these guys could be going to different teams (which could be unlikely). This is something that I really want to be changed in the CBA: Once you exceed your bonus pool, you CAN'T sign a player to over 300k Yeah, rule changes are nice, but would also be nice if the White Sox didn't refuse to do things other clubs are doing out of virtue. There is not moral high ground to not signing a bunch of poor players to your club. There was tremendous value to spending a lot this year. They once again don't, even after signaling they would. It's tiring. It means they need to exceed others returns in draft and trades. Good luck.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Argentina's had a debt problem for over a decade, though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_debt_restructuring They defaulted in 02, retrenched, recovered and were doing okay, did not really change much, inflation went crazy, they were then pressured by a hedge fund, defaulted again...etc Defaulting was probably the correct choice in 02, but rather than follow-up with similar reforms as Iceland, they basically did nothing different.

What about Michael Saunders...any chance we have a piece as attractive as what Texas was giving up?

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) I mean, I speak from a guy who has gone to 4 games this year so far, spending money for Scout Seats, diamond box etc. I also have a season ticket plan. Yes, you can sit and watch good baseball for cheap. I mean I sat 2 rows behind the dugout for $30/seat. But in the end of the day, I watch more intensely at home. Can see balls and strikes, pitch location, etc. I'd just rather be at home for a game on a weekday. Weekends I like getting out and having a beer in the summer and watching at the park. Fireworks, etc. YEah I hear you. I was at the game on Tuesday and am kind of jealous that I still haven't really seen the curveball that iced Big Papi from Q. It was cool there, but it was also just kind of a strikeout. The catch from Eaton, on the other hand, was probably way cooler live. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I thought that there's overwhelming support in PR against independence? Statehood is always going to face a huge uphill battle because it'd be a guaranteed 2 more Senate seats for Democrats and several House seats as well at the expense of other states. There is, I also can't even remember if they voted for statehood. But the issues that arose after Obamacare (none of the funding was provided for territories though the penalties WERE implemented), and this with the bankruptcy, there just has to be a either a separate body to deal with it, or put it under the executive branch, sell it off, whatever is practical. But relying on congress to act swiftly in emergencies for places they have NO skin in the game for...I mean, Congress shuffled their feet to provide hurricane aid to new jersey...what's it going to do for Guam?
-
The politiking of Puerto Rico as some sort of "other" is really making me sad. US should really sell or grant independence to their non-state properties and just buy land for military bases on them. US Samoa, Marshall, Guam, etc. Not fair these places can get so railroaded by crises because out of sight out of mind, and then when they do need help, there is incentive for a party to punish them for their home voters.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
bmags replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) Over the past two weeks, Abreu is hitting .308/.373/.462. As I said in this post, his problem has not been swinging at the offspeed low and away, it was always not swinging enough at pitches in the zone. Over the last two weeks he's still swinging at balls, but now he's swinging a lot more at strikes. After swinging at just 63% of strikes after the first few weeks, he's swung at nearly 80% of strikes over the past two weeks (numbers similar to his 2014 season), with great success. Abreu is successful when he swings the bat more often. You can live with him not laying off the pitches low and away as long as he's swinging at the good pitches to hit, which is what has happened during his current hot stretch. He currently has a career-high walk rate and a career-low strikeout rate, so he'll be fine. Keep swinging, Jose. Excellent post, Omar -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) Chris Coughlan is probably available. He was pretty popular earlier this year. Adam Lind might be able to be had. Both have really sucked, but you have to figure A. lowers their price and B. regression to the mean would suggest they are due to get hot. I feel like the Mariners are going to ride this out. AL West looks chaotic.
-
Duh, Walk of Life works with basically any scene.
-
I feel like almost all of the AL will be "in it". If the Astros are just eating it this year, Rasmus would be a nice player to look at. For pitching, going to be tough. Most likely need to look at NL crap teams.
