5/3 Game thread: Boston, 7:10pm, CSN
bmags replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2016 Season in Review
I'm going to game tonight with four others who texted me to go as walkups. That has never happened to me before. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:47 PM) See I can't really go with that kind of argument. Sure the overall defense has been much better and Eaton has been the best part of it but it is just one position on the field. Not everything is hit to him. I'm actually kind of shocked at the answers so far. I mean, yes, lots of names to choose from but I thought Sale would be an easy choice . On a team that has won several one run games, Eaton has saved three runs literally with throwing runners out, and more from a few doubles, home runs and more that he's made plays on.

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far

During a time where the Chicago white sox are the best team in the AL, caulfield openly wonders whether sox fans would mind if they moved to San Antonio. There is cheap Mexican food there. Great post. Hall of fame post. -

Historic season, very fun. The EPL gained a lot of American fans this year I'm sure. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 2, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) I don't get why they released Matt Slauson. It's not like they were up against the cap. Slauson was pretty good last year. Now you just handed the job to a rookie. At least them battle it out. Bears left side of the line is now Leno and Whitehair. The thing is there were already rumors of slauson being traded after signing Ted Larson. Somethings going on. Rumors have been both they don't think he was a scheme fit and injury concerns.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) If you think I was joking, I wasn't. I actually didn't think you were joking but the posts referencing you were tongue in cheek so I thought you might. I will definitely be at that game he retires at. He was white sox baseball for me, moreso than even Thomas just due to age.
-
This will now host all NFL talk with the draft ending. I'm torn on Slauson, but I do feel like Pace is operating the franchise like he has a plan, is using his coaches toward that plan, and are on the same page. It might all fail if they effed up this draft and last, but this is the way I like to see a franchise operate. Slauson was the best FA signing of Emery's career.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) I mean it's probably not out of the question for that team. Either that or Carson Wentz ends up being a hall of fame QB and they passed on him. Add to that, they've actually had lots of draft picks recently and just don't seem to find talent.
-
All joking aside, I really would like Buerhle to sign a 1 day contract to retire a white sox.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) Maybe I'm crazy, but I think this month is a lot easier than April. Only series that have me concerned right now are Boson and @TEX. That stretch where we get MN, NYY, and HOU is time to get fat. It has me nervous only because of regression. Are the Astros really this bad? Minnesota? NYY hitting? These are teams with a lot of talent who are underachieving mixed with the teams with less talent that had good april's, like BOS. Point is, if we can get through May looking square, then it's on. But the other point is, certain people, please please don't panic.
-
Rodon is going to continue to improve. He's got a great defense behind him now, he'll learn to trust to pitch to contact. Feels so amazing to be 10 over after April. I remember how excited I was when we hit that mark in 2012 in July. Felt like we had finally turned the corner from the 09-11 years. We did it right away, which has boded well for us in past (2000,2005, 2006 )

Luckily Sox may be facing Soria in the 7th and that just happens to be our sweet spot already. Definitely need to score early vs. KC.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) So, I'm curious if that "something stupid" already happened in this episode. Ramsay can easily play off Roose's death as poison. But I'm not entirely sure he can do that with Walda and the baby. He can't say they died in childbirth (Walda was obviously walking around with the kid), and he can't really say she was poisoned (since I doubt there's any body to be found). Maybe I'm overthinking this. Ramsay has control of Winterfell and everyone there is terrified of him, so he might be able to control the information. But that seems like a bad dangling thread from Ramsay. To sum up his situation: (1) Roose destroyed the alliance with the Lannisters by taking in Sansa (and Cersei authorized Littlefinger to march on Winterfell with the Knights of the Vale last season); (2) Ramsay lost support in the North by treating Sansa like crap and then losing Sansa; and (3) Presumably, Ramsay just lost the support of the Freys by killing Walda and her child. When Sansa reappears, it's going to be Karstarks + Boltons vs. everyone else... You are right that he can get away with it to an extent due to the iron first of terror he has over Winterfell. However, the meister controls the ravens, so all it takes is him disobeying for word to spread. -
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) Keep winning series, all there is to it. OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

One thing I like about Benetti is he tweets about the sox games when he's not annoucning them. I like that I know he loves his job and being the announcer. I think he'll get a lot better though. I'm sure the sox handled him telling him they want him to be himself, not hawk. But broadcasting takes time and he's probably figuring out what that means.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) On the flip side, Yaz is mentioned more in this thread than Hawk mentions him on the telecast. I haven't heard one Yaz story this season. Well, it was the orioles this weekend so lots of Aparicio and Robinson talk. I was surprised he didn't compare our staff to the Palmer staffs of yore thou.

So, point is, for the game threaders inclined to panic, this team may not end up 36-16, and if they aren't, it doesn't mean they are terrible.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) May 3 - June 19...for Caulfield 3 vs Bos 2-1 3 vs Min 2-1 3 at Tex 1-2 3 at NY 1-2 3 vs Hou 2-1 3 vs KC 2-1 4 vs Cle 2-2 4 at KC 2-2 3 at NYM 1-2 3 at Det 1-2 3 vs Was 2-1 3 vs KC 2-1 3 vs Det 2-1 3 at Cle 1-2 23-21 the next 44 would be fine. Right, and it gets a lot easier after that. Lucky for us half the NL is tanking and we don't get to face any of them. Let's just hope DET and MN continue to freefall. You know what would be nice? Being up 16.5 games at the all star break again

April was a rough month on paper. We had 26 games in 27 days, including games against AL East strongmen Tampa, Toronto and Baltimore, and playoff hunt teams Angels and Rangers - many of them away. And we came out 18-8! Much of that behind bonkers level pitching. Well - May is likely to be harder. Our pitching has dropped off a bit, our hitting has picked up a bit. However, if we can get out of May at .500, having not lost much ground in the division, our season looks pretty bright. May Schedule BOSTON - 3 MINN - 3 @TEX - 3 @NYY - 3 HOU - 3 KC - 3 CLE - 4 (DH) @KC - 3 @NYM - 2 Series we need to come out ahead - HOU MN Both had horrible Aprils, but are likely to regress. Houston's pitching is likely to be terrible, as is MN. Need to hope our batting pounds them. Games we need to not lose ground KC - 6 CLE - 4 I would really like to see us come out of this 5-5. KC has snake bit us, but we are a gvery different team. Cleveland has Brantley back but is out Carrasco, we need to continue to pound ALC. Wildcards: NYY TEX NYM 3 teams with good talent. Yankees have been hitting like garbage, and the Mets obviously have incredilbe pitching. Prediction: 13-14 If we get out of this relatively square, I am super confident about this team being great.

Are we sure he won't hit a home run every game for the rest of the year?
-
This one was my favorite because how far it starts left to right, and how it hits him twice. This is definitely the "folklore" story I'll tell on Sale. Think about the thought process as a slider leaves his hand from "I can hit this" to "My KNEE"

Very fast moving. Plot is moving like lightning, it's nice but different -
With the off day finally approaching, it's worth some reflection. I saw that April schedule and just prayed we could come out of it at .500. We came out of it with the best record in AL. 27 games in 28 days. 17 away games. Incredible.
