2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I thought that there's overwhelming support in PR against independence? Statehood is always going to face a huge uphill battle because it'd be a guaranteed 2 more Senate seats for Democrats and several House seats as well at the expense of other states. There is, I also can't even remember if they voted for statehood. But the issues that arose after Obamacare (none of the funding was provided for territories though the penalties WERE implemented), and this with the bankruptcy, there just has to be a either a separate body to deal with it, or put it under the executive branch, sell it off, whatever is practical. But relying on congress to act swiftly in emergencies for places they have NO skin in the game for...I mean, Congress shuffled their feet to provide hurricane aid to new jersey...what's it going to do for Guam?

2016 Democratic Thread
The politiking of Puerto Rico as some sort of "other" is really making me sad. US should really sell or grant independence to their non-state properties and just buy land for military bases on them. US Samoa, Marshall, Guam, etc. Not fair these places can get so railroaded by crises because out of sight out of mind, and then when they do need help, there is incentive for a party to punish them for their home voters.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) Over the past two weeks, Abreu is hitting .308/.373/.462. As I said in this post, his problem has not been swinging at the offspeed low and away, it was always not swinging enough at pitches in the zone. Over the last two weeks he's still swinging at balls, but now he's swinging a lot more at strikes. After swinging at just 63% of strikes after the first few weeks, he's swung at nearly 80% of strikes over the past two weeks (numbers similar to his 2014 season), with great success. Abreu is successful when he swings the bat more often. You can live with him not laying off the pitches low and away as long as he's swinging at the good pitches to hit, which is what has happened during his current hot stretch. He currently has a career-high walk rate and a career-low strikeout rate, so he'll be fine. Keep swinging, Jose. Excellent post, Omar

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) Chris Coughlan is probably available. He was pretty popular earlier this year. Adam Lind might be able to be had. Both have really sucked, but you have to figure A. lowers their price and B. regression to the mean would suggest they are due to get hot. I feel like the Mariners are going to ride this out. AL West looks chaotic.

Duh, Walk of Life works with basically any scene.

Early Trade Speculation
I feel like almost all of the AL will be "in it". If the Astros are just eating it this year, Rasmus would be a nice player to look at. For pitching, going to be tough. Most likely need to look at NL crap teams.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:52 PM) If we're calling Ortiz a cheat because of the 2009 PEDs thing, we should probably discuss Bill Clinton being a rapist, too. Accused of the crime, but probably did not commit it. Let's lay off the dude. Great post, definitely the same. Glad you've learned your lessons and are back to being a productive poster.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) Uh if we remember "way back" to last year, then you should remember righties destroying him. They put up a .OPS last year, 200 points higher than him vs lefties. In double the at bats I.e. he is not exclusively our LOOGY and it wasn't giving up putting him in. We've used him for full innings the last two weeks.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Don't attack me; I'm only being half serious. But everybody says we need lefty reliever(s). Ask Danks to go to Charlotte for a week and a half to get used to being a reliever?? He has experience and a decent resume when healthy. They did ask Danks to go to Charlotte. He declined.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) I think that's the point. Jennings has reverse splits-ish. Why leave Duke in vs righties when you got Jennings who has been phenomenal vs both as of late. Because he's a pitcher that's also successful vs righties? Because he is used for full innings after Robin initially eased him in? He's better against lefties but not by a lot, if you remember way back to last year or the year before that he was a set up man.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Just wish they would expand Jennings role a bit. Duke is gonna lead the league in appearances at this rate. Me too but he's not exactly a lefty specialist, he's had years with more success can righties

QUOTE (shysocks @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Duke isn't a LOOGY and he shouldn't be behind Jennings. Go have a look at his game log, he was rolling before tonight. Shhh....if Duke is in to face a lefty its "Duke is not a LOOGY!", when he is in to face right handlers its "why is our LOOGY in to face righties????"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) Buchholz has not given up a hit since there was one out in the second inning. @RedSox Clay Buchholz has retired 16 of his last 17. Ian Browne Despite all this seemingly negative information, it has a positive silver lining. The pressure on Hahn will increase to get some kind of left-handed help to counter RH pitching. Yes, I'm sure one game has Hahn in a vice. I wonder if he has already received the performance improvement plan, one has to wonder.
