  1. the only thing that makes losing games in bunches bearable is winning games in bunches. Keep it coming.
  2. There have been very few changes from successful coach that ended up in elite coach. Collins to Phil, Jackson (if you could call him that) to Kerr. I don't trust Gar to do anything except look up names in an iowa phone book.
  3. BTW - I think KC Johnson takes a huge hit here. Between him getting blown up from the Deng deal, and consistently putting for the view that the Front office wanted to appear to be the truth (stability) and not what was actually going on, I just have no trust that his "reality" takes are true. Woj was the correct one here, as usual.
  4. Disgusted by JR's press release. Completely uncalled for. Hilarious to say this team has accomplished a lot with a front office/coach alignment. That is absolutely not the case.
  5. Eh, Hoiberg had been picked to be a future coach since his days as a bull. Much like when we'll see coach Hinrich.
  6. Who wouldn't want to work for a tag team that punched one coach in the face and then undermined another coach for 2 years before firing him. Sounds like a great team to work for.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 27, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Whether it be in 2022 or 2026, guaranteeing the US a WC is probably going to be a necessary step in any deal any of these officials cut. The US has FIFA by the balls right now. That sounds just as corrupt as what we are accusing fifa of
  8. I will try to be optimistic. Save the bullpen dumpster fire, I loved every game from april-all star break last year. That was largely the same core here. If you show it once you can show it again.
  9. Fresh Meadows is a bit far for me, used to play there a lot. I'm actually looking for mid-level courses now that I can afford them. Just never went to any near the city. I live in Logan Square, most of the courses I used to play were with my Dad around Oak Brook, which, is fine, but a bit far.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) How many times does it have to be said that it is because of Fangio? And come on now, the Cowboys would have sniffed around. No doubt That's not what I'm asking. I know Fangio vouched. But again, it was so easy to avoid this.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Oh sure, let's skip right past every available back without problems and go straight to the only guy out there available who missed last season due to domestic violence. I'm sure this scenario is plausible Well, I'm pretty sure Ray Mcdonald would have been out of the league except for the Bears. There were 4 players involved in horrific domestic violence/child abuse last year : AP, Hardy, Rice and Mcdonald. The bears decided to pick up McDonald why? Just such an easy problem to avoid.
  12. Is there a search we can do to see how our hitters perform specifically against other teams starters? I have to imagine we are last in league there. So many games through 5 IP without runs.
  13. Man, the Dorne stuff is so bad it seems beyond redemption. I've never seen this show do worse character introduction and development than with the Sand Snakes. That scene in the jail was like something out of a Starz show, not Game of Thrones. And all of the "wink" and side-eye glances in the cell, "oh here she goes again" crap. Andy greenwald made a point that the shooting of this show is so intense, they can't be at every set and basically what they shoot is what they get. I wonder if they got the Dorne stuff and were like "crap, well, we gotta make it work". I wonder if it is just poor writing, or horrible execution by the director. It has been just so campy.

    2015 Films thread

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Don't get to movies very often, but saw Mad Max with the wife this weekend. That was really, really good. I've grown tired of most of the action movie genre the past few years, with most (but not all) just not doing it for me. This one was not only really fantastic in terms of action sequences, but the characters were interesting, tne plot lines had some unique features, and there wasn't that over-reliance on CGI you see so much of now. Fun dialogue too. Only negative I'd say was, at times, I think they tried a little too hard with the weird-world stuff to get that point across, but it wasn't a big deal. I will say this though - I usually love the previews section before the movie. The previews with this movie were universally awful, and I don't think I've seen that before. Jurrasic Park reboot, San Andreas, National Lampoon's Vacation reboot, and Terminator Genesis. I hope that isn't a sign of how the summer movies will go, because if it is, I'd rather watch the slow motion car wreck that is the White Sox. Horrible looking movies. Yeah previews at Mad Max were bad. There was a lot of hype around Jurassic World, but it looks just as contrived as JP2 and JP3. Mad Max was awesome. Maybe one of my favorite movies now. No extraneous plot. Well executed. Just so well executed. The best part is if someone tried to create a world like Mad Max in a new movie, they would spend 20-30 minutes of exposition explaining why everything is what it is. Screw that, just go! It's okay to leave people in the dark on things.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) I haven't really seen any of the beat reports talk about how terrible he is. Its all "Bears gambled and lost" which is what happened. They gave him a non gaurenteef contract and told him to stay out ta trouble or he's gone. He didn't, and he is. Yes, good point. These people are so lost in the sports of it all, they can't get out of that mold and report in any way on the humanity of the situation. This is why everything from missing a practice to sexual assault is thrown in the "off the field issues" bucket.
  16. The most annoying thing about this to me is how beat reporters, not really having access to much beyond the accusations, build tons of stories about his redemption. How soon after he was signed did we get 15-20 "McDonald says he's a good guy and people don't know the whole story" articles? How many stories with Fangio praising him? I hate these stories. If you wonder why people are harder on teams signing these guys, it's because right after signing the disgusting sports PR machine goes into overdrive where we are forced to believe that their football play makes them better people, and their teammates love them so they can't be bad. And sports as redemption. The kind of treatment that the victims do not enjoy. Now the same beat writers are talking about how terrible Mcdonald is.
  17. If you are wondering why I stayed: 1) It was an awesome day out and I hadn't been out all year 2) Had they said from the beginning it was a 2 hr delay I would have left There was technically only 5 tee times ahead of us when we arrived. It was really hard to cut our losses. You learn that the discount just aint worth it in golf. Not if you want to do anything else that day. Plus it really wears at you as you wait for 5 minutes to hit every time. I have to find some new courses.
