I'd prefer Kodos. Was that joke made yet?

Can Steamer re-run the numbers now that we have Brad Penny?

Reports: Sox sign Brad Penny
For those, like me, who did not know, Brad Penny appeared in 8 games last year and had a 6.44 era. He was not on a team in 2013. How 3 teams were interested in him in december is beyond me.

Sox sign Melky Cabrera
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) That would be the first really bad contract they gave out this winter. I think the Robinson deal is close, the years scare me more than the dollars. But to go to the 7ish years and $200ish million it will take to sign Scherzer is just begging to be a disaster of a deal. On the other hand, he went to the University of Missouri.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) Hmm. I don't know if "fat as hell" is the words I would use. Jose's a big dude, no doubt, but he certainly is not "fat as hell". He showed up at camp last year about 30 lbs overweight.

Sox sign Melky Cabrera
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) This just convinces me that Hahn reads this board lol. But in all seriousness, trade Viciedo and possibly Danks, sign Bonifacio and Beachy/Medlan and call it an off season. I'm guessing it's the ticket boosts and re-ups.

I really hope when Abreu gets to camp he is not fat as hell again.

Are we really that good?
For the record it was kind of funny as I went through time and could not find a Cuban player who got better their second year beside Alex Sanchez and Morales and both were kind of small sample sizes. I think I'm most interested in whether 2015 Abreu sees a power half and a contact half, or if we lose a bunch of power but see his high contact.

Are we really that good?
So there is some sort of cultural phenomenon that makes Cubans incapable of 2 straight exceptional years? It's not "2nd year players"?

Are we really that good?
What's the sample size on "Cubans". I feel like that's such a dumb statement that few other identifications would get away with.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) You guys seriously think anybody would give up even a 7th round pick for Cutler and that contract? There's no way that's possible. Maybe if he were underpaid or halfway through the contract, but teams are on the hook for guaranteed money. I think he'd be much better with a change of scenery, but IMO, he's the least valuable QB in the league right now. I don't know, Oakland traded a bunch for Carson Palmer. There are stupid teams in NFL.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) There were some strong quotes from Emery talking about how mad he was about the Kromer thing, and he specifically said that firing Kromer would have been 100% Trestman's decision, that's how their chain of command works. Given that Emery hired Trestman, I think he has to fire him, or else it's way more likely he loses his job with him in the next year or two, barring a miracle. Emery doesn't deserve to have a job here. All of this is his doing, ultimately.

QUOTE (SnB @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 03:39 AM) This is way worse than anyone thought it was going to be. Do you remember the two games in a row where we were down a combined 70-7 in the first half?

Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
I continue to forget about this and be shocked every time I remember.

Dear Santa Hahn
I feel like our next signing is going to be in late Jan/early feb, one of the vet contracts who held out too long for more and suddenly has no team. Would be great if a Tadahito Iguchi appears.

Are we really that good?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) Pretty much sums up a lot of my posts, especially the one about us being legit world series contenders...if we can make the playoffs. Our team is well built for the post-season...less so about making the playoffs. We have a chance, but to call us favorites would be misleading. Yeah, I think it's people talking past each other. That article puts us at adding 9 WAR, which, imperfect I know, puts us at 82 wins. Thaaaaat's pretty much what everyone has us pegged for. On the other hand, there's an excitement now for me I haven't felt since 2004-5 offseason. Are we good enough that great pitching can carry us? I think we are good enough that if things fall into place we are a playoff team. And if we are a playoff team, we have Chris Sale. And if we have Chris Sale in the playoffs, anything can happen.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) For sure. Nothing better than when someone reading their ticket comes up and says "I think you are in my seat." Then you can just give them the look and say "No, I don't think so, these are my season tickets." This is going to be awesome. I can't wait for my custom "Season Ticket Holder 01" to come in.

The 2017 White Sox
That's true, but that talent eventually needs to hit. We are seeing our first wave of young position prospects come up this year, or hit AAA this year. Eventually we need these guys to hit, because we know where buying all of your talent can get you. Obviously this is relative, Sox could survive Anderson busting, but for the team to be in the beginning of prolonged success, a cost-controlled short stop would be gigantic to help with that.

Are we really that good?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) My opinion is anybody who says a healthy Sox team is not THE favorite to win the Central is delusional. Folks, our starting rotation is Sale, Shark, Q, Danks and stiff to be named later. The closer is Robertson with suitable setup guys. The lineup has Abreu, Melky, LaRoche, Eaton, Garcia. There are no excuses for Robin. This is a WS roster. White Sox have been paper champions a lot of years. I'd like this to be the year they take it. BUt we haven't earned being the favorites.

Do I get to say I'm a season ticket holder, what's the % I should buy in for. I want to really use it against people in arguments.
