  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Dollar Bill Worst is an example of it being better with the kids taking over. As for the next stadium, I still believe it will be out in the suburbs. Pluck it down in Arlington Heights somewhere near Arlington Park. Basically anywhere along 53. But it wasn't better because his KIDS took over, it was better because it was better. That they were his children and hired a competent president to take over is remarkable. BUt the problem is with kids who have not made their wealth elsewhere is the team is their entire identity. Sell the team? It would be unfathomable.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) To be fair, those 5 teams' combined record was 23-47. (.329) Only one of them is still alive for a playoff spot and that's solely based on playing in the worst division in NFL history. Yeah, I know we didn't beat good teams, but I can't believe this team is better than anyone. They always look like the worst team on the field even when they win. Except Tampa I guess.
  3. I can't believe this team won 5 games.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Playing for the scout team likely left Fales completely in the dark when it comes to our offense Oh, no
  5. Is it just me or is this the reincarnation of Chris Widger!
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) Whenever I see or read about Longoria, I think back to the day when he was ready to be drafted back in 2006. The Rockies had the number 2 pick and everyone thought they would take Longoria. Nope, they took a pitcher out of Stanford named Craig Reynolds who had a very short career. Tampa took Longoria at # 3. When asked about it years later, Rocky GM Dan O'Dowd admitted his error, saying he didn't want to upset then third base prospect Ian Stewart, taken 2-3 years earlier. Longoria was a college pal of Tulo, by the way. My god that is dumb. As if you can't move a 3rd baseman elsewhere.

This has to be the very definition of too clever by half: 2. The anti-police protests are, in one way at least, rewarding the very police officers whom the protestors wish to punish, with nearly $23 million in overtime going to cover “the equivalent of 38,700 tours of duty since Dec. 3,” according to commissioner Bill Bratton.
  8. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) I really believe that if Maggs and Frank hadn't gone down in 2004, they would have had a real legit shot to win it all. Their pitching wasn't all that great but a front three of Buehrle, Garcia and Garland could have been good enough in the playoffs with the offense the Sox would have had that year. I loved those teams. I was too young to really remember much about early 90s except for I know I knew the players and watched. I remember Bo's home run, but not much other specific memories even in 94. I didn't really get back into baseball after the strike until the 2000 team, so those 01-04 teams are the real memories I have.
  9. QUOTE (MEANS @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) yeah this off-season has been a nice turn around to looking like we can compete where as 2004-5 was like WTF is going on? However one can't argue with the results of that off-season. I still remember that offseason being looked at very favorably. I remember most thinking we had filled all holes when Iguchi was signed. Remember, all the 01-04 sox people complained about it being all or nothing, only home run based. People were excited for a high obp player like pods that could run.
  10. Only thing I'll say is the 2004 white sox were chock full of injuries and were 83-79. This sox team was 73-89. THere's just a lot more to overcome. OTOH, if we get 16 games improvement we are in the playoffs.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) The Bears are putting Cutler on the mic for media day today. So that will be fun This is horrible. This organization needs to shut down. Just stop talking, get through a week and go home.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) Knowing your anti-ND history, any Notre Dame legacy in your rooting interests is too much for you. Ahh, the sweet smell of perpetual victimhood from notre dame fans. I've talked about them, what, 2 times in 10 years? Add it to the hate list!
  13. I just want to say THANK YOU to Jerry for that. If his kids can pull together the money to buy it from him, great, but I hate when sports fans are held hostage by the 2nd and 3rd generation kids whose entire identity is the team and if they fail there is no way out.

Yeah, I thought she did a good job. I also think she made a compelling case at the end that all the coincidences only make sense if you take Jay's story as the baseline. On the other hand, I wish she would have, given she dove into a podcast for a year on this, pushed harder into why the hell Jay is lying. No speculation whatsoever there?
  15. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) I'm not in Balta's head, but here's the flow of the conversation: The bolded wasn't actually in Balta's post but it's kind of an implied phrase. I initially read it the way you guys did but then thought there's no way anybody could think Melky is not better than Viciedo. Gotcha. Let's let this develop though. There really just is not that much risk here to get upset about.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Huh? Bro did you SEE the sled?
  17. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) Think he meant Viciedo's not much of an upgrade over JorDanks/whoever. That's not what he wrote. He said the roster without Melky and Viciedo is equally bad.
  18. If Clausen does light up the lions there will be way too much notre dame legacy in my rooted interests for my liking.
  19. Just keep in mind Hahn and KW have been touting how happy they were all the pieces fell into place. They couldn't bank on that.

    Here goes nothing...
  21. I wouldn't really consider him a prospect, and though his contract is a big bargain, he was another position we had to pay for.
  22. It doesn't matter if Reed sucks now. He had perceived value at the time, if we used that for a player who didn't pan out, it was a miss. And we just don't have the farm system to prop up misses yet.
  23. Trading draft picks to draft Mariota sounds like the stupid Bears thing to do to continue to set bears back. We need to trade down, we need to stop trading away picks and start collecting them.
  24. How stupid, solves nothing.
