I mean this is probably right but enough people have been 'promoted to avoid firing' in this org I'm not even sure

WSox listed as interested in Dbacks OFs
Yeah he's very good and if we could get him for a deal surrounding Montgomery it would be worth it. But I still maintain it's really annoying to get value on a Varsho when so much what you are paying for is reasonable control and not straight up talent. Much easier to grade that on a 1 year basis. He is extremely good, but the control makes you value him so much higher in a trade. That said, you are absolutely right that if the sox want to change the feel around their team, suddenly having an OF of Varsho/Robert/Colas with a Cespedes as a 4th OF eventually is a dynamite defensive group.

It’s still hard for me to believe a team with a defense as good as broncos will only win 3

Yes, the farm was bad. But if you want to talk about JR hamstringing GMs, he wouldn’t let the Sox sign guys over slot while the Yankees and Red Sox were grabbing much better talents. The 2012 cba and later the fixed Intl spending were godsends for a white Sox gm. And Kenny had things that were elite in the game, like the training staff and pitcher health, and for a while his pro scouting. Hahns never been more than avg across any dimension

Tired of the idea that Kenny is a bogeyman when he ran such a better operation in WORSE circumstances than Hahn.

That said, I don’t know these costs but if they can get a Jake McCarthy for our glut of MI and like tanner macdougal, sure

I hate paying for the extended control of non elite players.

I do think hahn would point to like...the yankees last year where they shed urshela and sanchez for kiner-falefa as like a "rearrange what wasn't working" thing. But uh...those players are all bad and the yankees basically made playoffs behind a 5 in 100 years offensive performance.

the main point I'd make is in 2021 for some reason the white sox acted oblivious to the likelihood of how their pitchers barely pitched the year before, including two TJS recoverers and just rode them until they broke.

so wild to me how many actual important sports/celebs read the reply guys. I suppose if people were talking about me I might as well. Anyhoo. I don't want to trade anderson, but i'm not against it. At this point any variable removed that the front office is claiming was the problem is helpful to point back to when the team inevitably sucks. But, it's not like there are no examples of the trading star and still riding fine recently. Andres Gimenez and Francisco lindor for one, though not...in year 1. But all were happy. You may say "but cleveland can scout" and I'd like to point you back to the paragraph 2 above.

White Sox interested in Athletics Catcher Sean Murphy
no idea if we need AV to trade for Murphy. As just grabbed Doda in Rule 5 anyway who is an interesting 1B prospect. The "X team looking for major league players back" always seems like the most wrong rumors.

still feel like if I have to choose between signing joey gallo or the sox trading for murphy and still have a strange roster construction I'd rather trade for Murphy. Good players help you win imo.

Joey Gallo Rumor Thread
I don't buy into this curse of nl->al or left handed slugger nonsense. Jim Thome was near retirement. High school players never work in chicago, then colson came along. I think it's fair that our scouting is bad, hence signing jon jay when he had no hips and being surprised his regression didn't come back. But if Gallo is going to bounce back next year, I don't think it's that much less likely it occurs here. But pretty sure our ML scouting is led by hostetler, so no reason to think we'll strike well for gallo.

It kinda depends. I'd almost rather it be the big collection of 1s from trading down to 10-12 a la the dolphins than to 6 or 7 and ending up with the 3rd best dl. Use those extra ones to potentially package for a game changer without doing a 2019-21 era for the bears of no picks. But if they did take anderson I think that's a good move.

Yanks Lure Aaron Judge back, $360M/9
I get that Judge put a lot of pressure on the yankees but man do I feel like this story line is a over contrived by NY media. Did the Yankees pay a tax to keep judge? I don't know how you can say that when Judge had what they also say was a larger offer from SD. If Devers is like "i'll sign for lower elsewhere" convincingly, then yes. But in this case the player had more leverage because other teams wanted the player more than the yankees.

Joey Gallo Rumor Thread
That said could Joey Gallo work? Sure. It's really not fun seeing what happened to him in NY. I've said we needed power and he has power. But, boy, can't you just see a team with him and grandal where they are both equally lost and we are losing our minds?

Joey Gallo Rumor Thread
I was thinking today about how Jerry's and the white sox's place in baseball was frustrating but made sense when it was largely the yankees/red sox/dodgers that just sucked up all the free agents. They were behaving wildly different than everyone else and when they won it was like "ok" but when they lost there was almost vindication that it shouldn't work. But it sure doesn't feel like that anymore. It feels like the teams that know they can't do that, and have put all their resources in being able to draft and develop and find talent everywhere that's controllable, and have been super successful. Then your bigger market teams who both put a bunch of their resources in scouting and development AND using it to target star players and re-sign or get star players in FA. And then you have the like rockies and white sox. It reminds me a bit of college football. You have the blue blood programs that just compete for the best, go after stars, spend a ton on the best coaches and development. Then you have the teams who aren't that but do an amazing job leveling the playing field by finding the undervalued players and developing them with strength trianing and coaching. And then you have like Nebraska, who still thinks it's a blue blood but isn't really doing either world well and is just kinda bitter and angry.
