QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) Hmm, I thought I saw he had that done twice? Well I like him a lot better now then. Still wouldn't play hardball with Rodon over the kid, but I'd be much happier if he signs now. I don't want to play hardball with Rodon for this kid, I don't think anyone would risk Rodon for him. I am just intrigued by de Oca because he is the only "questionable" pick left and that is always exciting. I say that because Rodon is going to sign. And I don't care if he signs for 6.5 mill if that's what it takes.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 11:01 PM) Why would you say that? De Oca had 2 TJ surgeries and he just got out of high school. Rodon is a college player who has never had the procedure. How are they even remotely close? Also Coop likes Rodon so I'm assuming there's not some serious or at least unfixable mechanical issues there. He has only had 1 TJ surgery.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) Who cares how much money we give him as long as the Sox get their guy soon & don't lose a pick? BODM is getting vastly overrated here thanks to a weak draft after the second round. Think about this, both Javy Guerra and Maikel Cleto have SU/CL stuff but with other issues too, they were free via waivers. There are always going to be big arms who need a lot of work available. The guy isn't even worth considering in the Rodon signability stuff, I mean, there is a reason he went until the 14th round. Just off our own recent history we've DFAd the likes of Jhan Marinez, Clevelan Santeliz, Gregory Infante, etc. all of whom at one time were considered legitimate RP prospects with great arms. I know Santeliz made AAA and the other 2 actually got to pitch in the majors. Letting de Oca go isn't really an issue, if he signs great, if not whatever. But you don't screw around with Rodon over that guy. You can always find these kinds of arms. Basically if the Sox give the kid $500K and pay for his schooling they are doing him a massive favor that could provide for him a career playing baseball. If he says no thank you and wants to gamble that much then good luck kid. He's not getting massively overrated at all, you aren't going to be in trouble as an organization if you add a bunch of live arms to your system. Whether he pans out or not, it's the type of risk you take.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) going the independent route is 1 yr and then he is a fa. signing for whomever offer the most money. Again, the risk here is tremendous.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) if I remember correctly, the sox had a deal with alex fernadez (misspell) and then borAss at the last sec up the cost...... that started the whole feud. I believe something to that effect also happen to arod. so the bottom line, nothing is a sure thing with borAss. however I am still holding out for some hope as RockRaines said. Here's the thing, this isn't an open market deal. His only leverage is basically going back for a senior year, or going independent league. Both carry tremendous risk.

How has Davidson done defensively? That was main reason he was sent down if I remember correctly.
-
So for those that would know, how much importance do you place on Hayes signing? Would he be a big boost to our prospects/will he be blocked regardless? How good our the young D players coming up? Are we just talking solid contributors or do any look like future first line defenseman?
-
Sox would have ended up with Nola not Schwarber.
-
Seems we scouted Hawaii pretty hard. I'm sure the Scout had to justify that.

Even though this isn't exciting, I do think Danish has a floor as a great reliever. The arm slot would be jarring and sink on his pitches would be such a great tool to have for holds. That said, let him prove that he can't start. We also, kinda, need a #4 starter, and one we don't have to pay for. So I wouldn't be too disappointed if he ends up as that.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) I still think the Rangers would have given the Hawks some issues, they sure can skate and shoot and in theory have a hot goalie. With the way the Hawks D had been playing I think it would have been close. I was hoping for a 7 game finals and it looked like it was going to happen in the first two games but then Quick got hot and its all but over unfortunately. I agree, also Rangers had some great chances in game 2, a wide open net that didn't elevate enough and a poster. I don't think Hawks would've finished it off in less than 6. Does hurt though, just one good bounce and we could be getting ready for a parade.

Just me but when I read that I don't see an ounce of #DISRESPECT towards sox.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 04:15 AM) Get Belisario out of here NOW.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 03:31 AM) Sox 5-4 thru 7 Did they take away a run?
-
How dare he not know he wouldn't last 6 innings!!

Dang that was his pitch
-
Come on Rick one more pitch left up for Dayan

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) Wait, what? He's talking D. KC Johnson's article was predictably hilarious. Bulls are scared off by Love's contract and are secretly hoping to sign Carmelo to a $4 million dollar deal, that's probably if they have money after signing Kirk to an $8 mill deal.

I have to say, I'm very impressed by Sox execution this draft. We'll obviously have to wait and see, we may not get the production we hoped. However, we heard a lot about how much emphasis and, more importantly, resources Hahn had put into this draft. And it really seems to have showed. We took players others deemed "unsignable" and have had great success so far signing at slot or lower. I think many would have been happy after rounds 1 & 2 if we punted to make sure we had plenty of room for both. Well, we also added some very interesting names and talent those rounds. We will not know whether this really will be a group that leads this team to another level, but if we continue to perform in drafts like these, the odds will move in our favor.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) Maybe I don't understand the term ace, correctly. Is he an All-Star and maybe even the All-Star game starter this year? Sure. So, the top pitcher of one half of the league's talent doesn't scream "ace" to you? -
More I read on him, the more I want him. Every pitcher is different, but that we were able to turn around Montas' wildness really excites me to get raw, huge arms like this kid. Even if he ends up with nothing but a big fastball, a big 6'8 kid pounding the zone is at least a reliever.
-
Rodon is gonna sign at slot or above. No way he is signing for 750k under slot.
-
Signing Adams at slot (just announced) seems to be great news to me that we may have some extra chips to play with.
-
But you are basically replacing every defender on the bulls. That's a lot of work to get them to play D together in Thibs system.
-
Great sign (grabbed from Draft Picks threaD) Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 2m Source said #WhiteSox have agreed in principle to sign 2nd-rd pick, RHP Spencer Adams, at slot. Suggested slot is $1.282 mill. edit: "Great sign" meaning this is a good sign that we need not worry about getting Rodon in the fold, obviously it is a nice "signing" as well.
