  1. QUOTE (mike89128 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) Yahoo Sports has a good article on Viciedo. Tone of the article suggests Viciedo will not be back next year. Article says Manto, Baines and Ventura have basically given up trying to install some disciple to his swing. His jammed thumb from last night might open the door for Garcia soon. Wouldn't be surprised if Viciedo goes on the DL. I would be shocked if he is not back next year. I would love if we found a long-term upgrade for him, but if not no reason to not just let him play.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) When is the last time after Rose's rookie year that he was shut down by a point guard? I can't think of a single time, all "he shut himself down last year" jokes aside. I don't remember any, but I did think Jeff Teague did a pretty good job on him in the playoffs in 11.
  3. I don't understand what will be accomplished by cutting him right now.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) I don't really understand why. OMG I have to see ARod? I think it's more likely just the fact that sox are in national news created ticket interest. Hell, Yankees used to be automatic lock for 25k, i'm guessing some fans just found out they were in town since nobody has paid attention to this team.
  5. good jimmy article: http://www.csnchicago.com/bulls/jimmy-butl...ounding-prowess
  6. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) I'm really hoping for 6 wins. Kind of sad to be honest, but that's the state UT's in right now. As for other poster's comment, I don't think I'm crying a river. Just stating that it's a damn tough schedule. Yup. After having toughest schedule in SEC, Mizzou now has 3rd toughest. Mizzou really needs a 7-5 campaign or else the rails are going to come loose and who knows what becomes of the program. That said, I feel much more comfortable with 2nd QB maty mauk than Berkstresser, who was god awful last year.
  7. I liked his moxy yesterday, I just want to see him pitch more. Amazed how few pitches he throw considering he only threw like 47% strikes yesterday.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) I think he single-handedly destroyed our team from suckday one. All of this s*** we are dealing with now is because of Dunn being absolutely brutal in the heart of our order. 2011 and 2012 were lost because of Dunn. 2012?
  9. Man, this year is just incredible.
  10. Despite all the evidence, I really can't believe the sox are THIS bad. I know I should root for the worst season ever but in practice, ugh, how could this be?
  11. Just so used to it being the fifth inning without a run scored for sox.
  12. Well, last night at 1030pm was much more exciting.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) You are probably right, but eating a lot of money isn't going to bring back a future all star. Teams are not dumb. It's harder than ever to pry away their best prospects. I agree. However, I feel like eating 5mill and getting some c level spects + 14mill in savings is better than Rios. But, hey, I wouldn't be heartbroken if he's here.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) If you don't eat money, you get the pitching prospects like you got for Peavy. If you do eat $5 million or so you get the equivalent of Simon Castro. I don't blame them for not eating money. If you don't eat the money, I'm not sure you'll find a deal at all.
  15. Wellp. I think this is all we'll see then.
  16. will die if people take bait going overboard from Hahn comments as well.
  17. Would be amazing if someone claimed rios on waivers next week.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) Here's idea #1, if you want to keep high paying jobs around, support them. Pretty much every single failed industry in the United States is a result of one of two things. #1 Technology making it obsolete. #2 People supporting cheaper versions of American industries leading to its failure. If you want American industry around, quit buying non-American stuff. I find #2 rather incredible. Granted US is a huge market, but if US continued to make lateral product at higher price they would have fallen down globally and the same issues would have happened. GM has made a bunch of money back by growing in latin america. There should be a huge emerging market in Africa. You need to lower your prices to get in though.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) You told people that domestic manufacturing was going to collapse and leave the rust belt economically depressed for decades? TBH, I do recall him telling me this in 1945.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) Moving costs (and I don't just mean the moving truck) aren't 0, though. No, they aren't, but there are costs to staying as well.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) Wow! 250+ pages on this subject. "Other " sites don't even dent that. Good job Sox Talk! Well, it did stem from a 200 pg. thread to start with.
  22. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) @Ken_Rosenthal: Remember yesterday when @jonmorosi and I said that virtually all of the #Rangers were in play? List includes Garza. Rangers are apparently selling when only 5 back in division and 1 back in wild card?? What the f*** are they doing?? Wow.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) Because no one in their right mind considers Peavy's contract a bad one. And they took it on by giving up a guy with a career .622 OPS...in the minors and nothing else of value. Really great deal for them. It's going to very tough for someone to top what they did. Except in every rumor made Peavy's contract showed up as an obstacle. While I'm sure many teams would have paid Peavy $15 mil on a 1 yr deal next season, those may not have been contending teams in 2013, but they would have been teams that also knew what their budget would be for the next year.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) If the price was 2 very good near-ready prospects, who's to say Boston doesnt just go for another team's starting pitcher? Instead of Peavy? Well, not many existed.
