QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) The players on this team have proved to be the worst team in the league. When you start trading said players why the heck would anyone expect to get someone to give you anything near their top talent? We are extremely lucky to have these other teams desperate enough to take on the contracts. Good job Hahn. So, does Chris Sale sucks? Heck, he doesn't have a winning record! Why should we get anything?

Is Granderson over 30? My god, how old am I?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) In my opinion, the sooner people get comfortable with the fact the Sox won't compete next year, the easier it is to take these recent moves. Despite what Hahn has said, this is a pure rebuild. Well at least we have restocked our farm system!!!!!! sigh.
-
Presumably we will need SOME players.

Eeyore is back.
-
I know! I know!
-
Just to have a bit of an eeyore sox fan moment: Shucks it sure does seem like anytime a sox player goes on the market we are told there is no market for them. /eeyore

I think it's interesting the millennial high support for legalization while also seeing a big decline in actual usage.
-
Fine. Sorry Texas, you have to pay value for players.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) 1) Get Garcia in the lineup and let him make adjustments at the major league level. He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B. I really disagree with 1. There's a lot for him to work on there.

Dang. 72 hrs is too long in the twitter age.
-
Lame.
-
Why don't they just literally buy the prospects then? 30 mill cash for X
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) The only close manifestation of that I have seen is if you take our superstar player, you have to also take the bad contract. I don't think I ever remember bad contract + top prospect for nothing being done. Yeah, exactly. If you are gonna take a top player we have to get down to 0 on our salary.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Probably like not being able to beat the Cubs in 2 series Ha, man, I have never been so happy that that series has become meaningless. In 2001-2004 that would have been devastating.

I"ve had the one for a few months now. Never thought about the power button issue, but then again, i have normal sized hands that can hold things. All the experience of switching phones has done is convince me that iphone 4 was probably apples greatest version to date and I miss it, and that you guys are crazy to have such heated opinions about the marginal benefits over each phone. That said I like the 6-second video thing on the one, should be fun now that instagram can upload videos.

Kudos to soxtalk for pulling out the bizarre "eat a contract and i'll give you prospects" angle. I didn't really catch that's what he was saying when i first read it. That is much more of a basketball thing, and honestly...not even there.
-
I can't imagine the shame that would arise from being swept by the white sox.
-
That was a good article. His commentary on sox recently has been somewhat incoherent, and this was much more clear. I disagree with their insistence that Garcia be called up right away and viciedo dropped, yet also maintaining team should be bad as possible. If Viciedo sucks, why drop him? He's not costing much anyway, and he could possibly develop.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) I think it's funny that White Sox fans wouldn't go to the ballpark last year to watch a 1st place team but there were meatballs walking up to attend a game to boo A-Rod. Mind boggling to me. Not to mention, the Sox have Quintana and Flowers on the roster who have both tested positive. Just funny. I find it hard to believe people think this is at all interesting that after a season of crap, suddenly the baseball team you follow is in all the news that "tonight's" game will feature (insert anything) against the most popular team in the country and you don't think that would increase attendance.
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 07:13 PM) It's interesting to think though, that if someone slipped something into your food or drink and you tested positive, how easily you'd be blackballed from the game. I suppose if someone close to you had an alternative agenda, this could be done quite easily, no? Odds of being found positive for that are probably zero.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) It isn't the Madhouse on Madison. That is the Chicago Stadium. How does a sign change that? That's what I'm saying. it's crap. Did all the fans die in 93? Did people stop cheering during National Anthem when the UC opened? Stadiums change. As long as it's still on Madison and it's where the hawks play they can throw whatever charming allusion the past they want. Any other opinion is just stubborn oldmanisms.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) I'm not saying that at all. I do believe the sign is meaningless though. The real Madhouse was the Stadium. The UC is the UC. They aren't anywhere close to the same thing. Putting up a sign to pretend they are the same is just silly. People comment on stadiums all the time. I don't understand what could make this commentary less valid. I was also angry when they changed pizza vendors to digiornos but hey, we won a stanley cup so i guess I should delete that.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) My friend speculated on my Facebook status last night that all these ridiculous injuries are a result of players weaning themselves off HGH in anticipation of blood testing next year. Although... ligaments get fragile when the muscle mass grows faster than the ligament... Eh, i think it's more just coincidence. I don't think they'll do s*** for HGH b/c I don't think the league will catch anyone.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
bmags replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well, the NCAA could regulate it, and say you can sell memorabilia only through x vendors. They could take a premium and screw over the college athletes still, but hey, at least the kids could get paid.
