  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Create a "spam" mail account on gmail or some other free email system and use that email for any such things. Use an email like that for anything related to product registration, forums, etc...so if they do hack it/track it, they won't find much other than a bunch of garbage spam and other information you don't care about. Everyone should have a LEAST 2 email addresses. A personal/private email you mostly use yourself and give to certain people. And s general use email for the rest of this garbage out there. Thanks. I did this. I wasn't sure about payment thru amazon and delivery to the kindle, but it was all a lot easier and less connected than I thought. I was just worried about spoiling the surprise.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) But you're also making it seem as though there is no way to enjoy a game without spending a fortune, and that's just not true... If you can't go to a game on a gorgeous summer night and enjoy yourself without buying a ton of food and booze, well I just don't think you're a huge baseball fan. Okay, fair enough, I could easily go to one game and it not be a big deal. But obviously when there are 81 home games a year and it's summer out you'd like to go to quite a bit more. I'll never not go to a single baseball game that year because of money. With football I can't afford one. With basketball it's maybe 1 or 2, but with baseball, with so many seats available and games and it being summer, you'd like to be able to go for the full experience more than once or twice in a summer. edit: And I really don't even want to get drunk at a game. But cold beer at a baseball game is wonderful. Chugging beers in a parking lot isn't really my thing.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) You have no friends with cars? Look, I've been in your position...just out of college, not a ton of discretionary income, have to pick and choose your fun on the cheap in order to stretch your dollar. Bottom line is, going to a lot of MLB games is not really within your reach right now. And I say MLB, because it's not a Sox thing...this is a MLB and even a professional sports thing. Beers are going to be $7-8 bucks. Any decent food is going to be $8-15 bucks. Decent tickets are going to be $30-50. So you only go to 1 or 2 games a year...no big deal. Support the team by watching them on tv or listening to them on the radio. Yeah. My point was that it was, at one point. But no, none of my friends have cars.
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) you dont own a car, but you think taking the train to the game is " taking the fun out of going to a game" Honestly, i have no idea what the f*** you are talking about.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) One word for you: Tailgate I mean, once again, most affordable games are on weekdays, and I don't have the luxury of being able to leave work early to go tailgate...I also don't own a car. But I shouldn't have to go out of my way to make a game affordable and enjoyable. At some point it's just not worth it. That point has passed (and I went to 8 games last year...that won't happen this year)
  6. If the bulls are going after Howard, I'm glad they are doing it quietly. The last thing you want to do is create resentment with your players before the season begins. You know, I feel like we can offer the best package for Howard, but it's going to come down to him.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Whats fun about eating/drinking at the ballpark? I go to the park to see the game and root for the Sox. Everything is fun about drinking and eating at the ballpark.
  8. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) On the court it's more talent, but age is a big factor since New Orleans killed any chance of competing for at least 3 years by trading Paul. Scola is 31, Odom is 32 and Martin is 28. They're going to have to reload a few years because none of those guys is a young piece you can rebuild around. The Nuggets on the other hand got Gallinari (23), Chandler (24) and Mozgov (25). Those guys were also cheaper, the trio New Orleans got makes almost $30 million combined. I hear you, but I think they are viewed as assets, not something to build your team around. There would be good interest on competing teams for all of those players.
  9. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) There are many ways to cut cost.. Eat at home and not at the ball park take a train sit in the upper deck bring bottles of water with you to the park Also check stubhub for good seats at low prices.. In otherwords, take the fun out of going to a baseball game. Gotcha. I think i'll just watch at home, thanks. The reason for me to go to a park should go beyond fandom.
  10. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) I don't think we're really that much worse than other sports fans. It's just that we are always compared to the other baseball team in town who are the one exception to the rule. How many other teams can manage to draw 3 million fans to watch a team win 60 games? Also, I don't care what that other fan was saying about affordable options...Sox games are really, really expensive. I went to the most games in 05, and that wasn't just because they were good, it was because it was the last affordable season.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Brandon Roy is expected to soon announce his retirement due to a degenerative knee condition, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. That's just so unfortunate. that's awful. He was so fun to watch for so short a time. Best of luck.
  12. I think playingnin Brooklyn would be pretty awesome
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 02:12 AM) The problem comes with the 27 teams that aren't in LA or NY. yeah, but they are subsidized by LA and NY
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 02:08 AM) On what grounds, i can make up a million but my guess is something like: Hornets are owned by NBA as such the deal was "preliminary" and not "official" in that it had to be approved by XYZ. When presented to XYZ the deal was not approved and thus there never was any deal to kill. I'm honestly shocked though. The lakers are one of the teams that will share revenue with all the others, I'm shocked stern would screw them over. Pleased, but shocked.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 01:52 AM) The Bulls can trade more value without the promise of Howard resigning. The question is how bad do you want to win. Do you take the risk? If the Bulls can get Howard at a reasonable rate, I wouldnt be completely opposed to taking the risk that over a season he decides he wants to sign with Chicago. I wouldn't make the trade unless he'd resign...but if you were the new Clippers owner or the rich soon-to-be brooklyn nets owner...wouldn't you take that chance?
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 01:42 AM) Well KG didn't have the same power that Howard, a soon to be FA, has. That's all I was saying. The Wolves didn't have to settle for crap in fear they could lose him for nothing in a year. That's all I was saying. I understand that, but if you are orlando, would you rather have had the gasol odom package or the bynum...caracter...ummm trade.
  17. QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 01:32 AM) sick burnnnnnnnnnnn You can't come in and throw a grenade when your whole existence is just to shill for the timberwolves front office.
  18. Because I was talking about what it took to put the original big 3 together. Now all it takes is some whining, and a team will take .20 on the dollar to trade them. They clearly could get more than Bynum for Howard. There are owners that would trade more than that for howard for 1 year, I guarantee it. But we have a world of NBA writers writing this s***: "But the reason they're able to deal for Kobe, for Odom, for Gasol, for Chris Paul and possibly Dwight Howard is because they have the pieces in place. Not because they make more money than anyone else (though this did help them hang onto Odom two offseasons ago), but because they have the parts." http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont...urn=nba-wp11564 This is atrocious.
  19. That's fine, we'll sit back and chuckle at the Timberwolves play on the court.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 01:16 AM) Again, the player controls everything. If Howard says I'm not signing an extension with the Bulls, what are they to do? Howard seems like a front-runner to me, anyway. Much easier to team with Kobe, Paul, etc. Don't say "again" like you are refuting anything. Did I say it's wrong and bad because it's untrue, or did I say it's wrong because it's f***ed up that an awful package could net the best center in the league. You don't need to be a contrarian about things people aren't even arguing about.
  21. I speak for probably a faction when I say it doesn't piss me off that howard may go to the lakers, it pisses me off that howard may go to the lakers for andrew bynum. That's not a real trade. At least with the bulls we are sending legitimate pieces. At least when the celts traded for garnett they could hang their hat on al jefferson. This is just collusion.
  22. Seriously, how could this be a lock? How is andrew bynum fair value for the greatest center in basketball? What am I missing?
  23. I really can't f***ing believe that LAL will be able to get howard with Bynum. WHY THE f*** WOULD YOU TAKE BYNUM for the BEST CENTER IN THE GAME THAT ACTUALLY PLAYS BASKETBALL ONCE IN A WHILE> THIS IS f***ING ABSURD
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) @blakegriffin: Hey guys I just got traded... @blakegriffin: Stupid autocorrec. I meant say I just got to Trader Joes, the grocery store. Gonna do some shopping. LOL, he rocks. was just about to post that. Was legitimately laughing in the office.
