  1. missed it cause i was working, glad to see we won the series!
  2. I wonder if we would've heard this awful officiating card on this site in the 90s.
  3. I think all anti-gay looking people should be stopped on the street and produce papers to show that they are not gay.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 5, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Actually, for everything other than work travel, I walk or ride my bike, especially for neighborhood type distances. Of course this doesn't apply to my camping trips, which often involve state to state driving. But in relation to that, I also tent camp or backpack, no trailer homes or crazy amenities to make life easier on the road. My commute to work is 35 minutes by car, it's well over an hour by bus/train, it's just not worth it for me, especially considering I get a huge parking discount. That's good. I'm not sure why you ridiculed public transit, though. I don't find it inconvenient to hop on a bus or a train especially with the CTA feature of telling you when the next bus is so you don't have to wait. And the efficiency of a dense population means that chicago and their metra service to the suburbs means that Chicagoans should be proud their lifestyle is an asset to the country. California's highway layout is really stupid and poorly planned in hindsight. We are not. I'm happy about that.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 5, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) It wasn't meant to be funny. What it is, is wonderful. Freedom is great, isn't it? I'm free to choose to drive to work, because I can, because I dislike public transportation. Oh, wait, you only like freedom when people agree with what you agree with, right? And I like being able to walk to restaurants and grocery stores and not having to deal with parking, gas prices, auto insurance or car maintenance LOLOLOLOLOZOOLZOLZOLZOLZOZL
  6. I like watching the NBA playoffs. I also like the NHL. These two things can co-exist!
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 5, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) I have degrees in statistics and in history, i'm very aware of why it is necessary to back up claims with eveidence. I was just amazed that someone who is seemingly as informed as you appear to be has never once read an article or seen a news story where they talked about a crime related to terrorism carrying something other than a life sentence. It seemed as if you were being difficult for the sake of being difficult by making me "prove it". You're right, they can, and often will. But the only point I was trying to make was that it was very conceivable that someone could be convicted of an attempted terrorist attack or with aiding in one or whatever, and then one day being eligible for release. That all stems from your initial statement of what would it matter if they were in prison the rest of their life. I was only trying to illustrate that that may not always be the case. It's because context matters.
  8. you don't know why it's necessary to back up claims with evidence? Nonetheless, you are not taking into account that that is only one charge, they can lump a whole bunch of charges together. And for this individual, he did not provide the resources, he used them.
  9. I can't argue with that research.
  10. which one's haven't been?
  11. if he's in jail for life who gives a damn if he's still a citizen.
  12. with Bush, i mean, probably the same - although probably more. Then Clinton - he's had more. George HW - more. Before that...couldn't tell ya. Reagan had the economy and the cold war, so i don't know.
  13. Cool graph: http://bit.ly/diTWYV Illinois and New York with two lowest gas consumption levels per capita - benefitting from huge swaths of their population in a high density area with effective public transit (in that it serves huge areas: see Louis, St. for opposite) Anyway, proud to walk to my first job today then take the train to my second. Go Illinois.

how old are you? That would help.
  15. I don't think it's that silly. You have to understand, there can still be snow in winter and it be a warmer winter. The warming creates more moisture in the air, and therefore: more precipitation in both winter and summer. Just because it's frozen in the winter doesn't mean it's a sign that global warming is a hoax, it's actually quite the opposite.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 4, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) Even More Less-Sane: Lieberman Proposes Taking Away Citizenship Of Suspected Terrorists How about we charge them with treason instead? I know, right?

I really didn't enjoy Gods and Monsters. Some awful dialogue.
  18. 2 others arrested were cleared
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Isn't "hey lets end it" a pretty good description of what the military said last time that Congress asked? It's more than 10 seconds at this point. I think it's pretty clear they're trying to at least slip past the mid-term elections and hope that they can avoid a backlash against them from either side. Give me a break, they already essentially gutted it. If this 1 year review is enough to satiate some senators while making the program currently meaningless you won't give a f*** in 5 years because it will be over. BUt considering what it looked like his first year, the Obama admin. has really taken on DADT and the HIV ban.
  20. anyone know if we got the free dunkin donuts coffee?
  21. b.s. dragging his ass would be if the military was saying "hey let's end it" and obama was saying "nope!" Just because it takes more than 10 seconds to change it doesn't mean it's being held up.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Lily Ledbetter Ended the HIV travel restrictions Really like these two. Especially regarding the latter, it was an incredibly stupid and outdated ban that had no reason continuing, and it was a relief to see it end. There was actually a lot of little things Obama has done that have had big impacts on peoples lives that it's hard to remember because i think it was such common sense. also: The movement to end don't ask don't tell.
  23. Caught my first sox game of the year. Rios was great tonight. Beckham made a great play at second. Also: I think i underestimated how popular scotty pods is with most sox fans. Also, Jones and Alexei were smokin the s*** out of the ball. So did paulie. The Royals 3b was like target practice out there. Also, BS is right, it was a cubs fan starting s*** in LF.

  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) I'd rather Kotsay lead off than Ramirez, as Alexei isn't a long-term solution. Kotsay is?
