AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Mark Teahen gets some well-deserved pimpage from Fangraphs after carrying the Sox last night. "The winning team, as a whole, will only have a +.500 WPA. Teahen shouldered the entire load and some more for the White Sox on Monday night in what could be one of the biggest, in terms of clutch hitting and value to the team, performances of the entire year. In his final 3 PAs, in which he went 3-3 with a 3B, a HR, and 3 RBIs, the run he knocked in either tied the game or gave the White Sox the lead. The leverage index of these three plays were 1.86, 2.90, and 3.43, respectively. Teahen came up huge in big spots for Chicago. To do so once can make you a hero. To do so three times in the same game? That’s simply amazing." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/t...rries-white-sox Word. Jones kept puttin us ahead...Teahan caught us up. and Ahead. Teahan and Jones...whodathunkit.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Wasn't just last night, that's 2 starts in a row now. That's why I'm interested in this and will be watching his next 2-3 starts. Right. He was off about a foot the last two starts on anything inside quite a bit. Against cleveland he was just wild enough to only give up 3 runs, that caught up to him here. But It really seems like it's something lower body. He's not whipping around his hips like he used to.

it doesn't really matter if there is a regression. A closer can simply suck out of the blue. If Bobby starts to suck his future with the white sox is donezo.

remember a few weeks back where we were talking about why the hell we learn things that are just empirically untrue yet get passed down anyways only for us to unlearn them... well, i finally learned that in fact, robert E. Lee was not an abolitionist. http://www.c-spanarchives.org/program/ID/175482 go to minute 55:00 I mean, I don't really care, it makes sense, but what's the point of perpetrating that memo unless to push forward that the civil war was more than about slavery, about some abstract claim to states rights?

Lineup change?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) They haven't loved anyone in KC since Sweeney left. Greinke is now the man in that city, the Royals begin and end with him. It was supposed to be Gordon, but that hasn't materialized (Univ. of Nebraska product, like Mauer and Twin Cities). If Moustakas or Hosmer can make it, they have a chance to be the new Royals heroes....but that city is so desperate for a winner, they'll cheer almost anyone. Greinke and DeJesus. Their fans have a good sense of humor though. edit: nebraska is not in missouri or kansas.

Growth of Unpaid Internships May Be Illegal, Officials Say
QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) No, they aren't lectures. At least in the cases of Practicums and Service Learning they are hands on field experiences that, when done thoughtfully, ask the student to reflect on their experience while integrating concepts from their classes and majors. There is nothing lecture-y about it when done properly. And yes, the type of instructor matters. An increased over-reliance on ad-hoc faculty (because of their cheapness) is hurting the quality of higher education. As long as they are adding more flat screens they'll stay high on US news and World Reports list though.

QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Soxtalk is known for hating Pods. For over four years here Ive read so many posters make grandiose excuses to explain why he stinks and will always stink. we didn't need grandiose excuses to explain that.

Growth of Unpaid Internships May Be Illegal, Officials Say
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Unless it becomes standard practice/a requirement for entry into an industry. this. You guys really aren't grasping the reality of the situation. It's at the point where few are paid. When I was looking at journalism internships, getting paid was a long shot, especially out of washington. And again...I couldn't afford it. I stayed in columbia to work. And then senior year when I went to job fairs, every one said I'd need more than my Missourian clips...a real newspaper. That's why I said f*** it i hope your industry fails and then went to brazil.

Lets discuss DH platooning
If you are worried about Quentins health you should be worried about Jones. He should be just as much of a consideration to give time off to.

Lets discuss DH platooning
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:21 AM) You don't prove yourself in one night, and Jones may be nothing more than a viable bench option on most teams. But on our team, he should be playing the vast majority of the time, because the other option is Mark Kotsay. At least with Andruw, there is hope he might overachieve and be useful. I'm with you, with one other thing, Jones in the lineup I imagine helps our D out a lot more. I'm anxious to see what the data would read, but when Jones takes out one of either Quentin or Pierre in LF/RF he adds at least an arm upgrade. And an OF of PIerre/Rios/Jones is our most optimal in terms of getting to the ball. Quentin took an absolutely horrid route to a double today. Kotsay really doesn't provide that benefit. Nor does he have the upside, as you said.

I'm really enjoying how Jones makes our outfield look defensively, but i do worry about his health playing full time. He's playing hard though.

The #2 and #5 spots in the lineup...
I'll gladly take 2 HRs a game from Andruw Jones. Did you notice that Pierre stole on a lefthander today? Shocking. That's unpossible.

what a misleading title. In the chat we were all talking about whether he's injured and I assumed this was them saying he was fine, instead it's just another "whaa stop being mean" thread.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Great game by Teahan and Jones. But my favorite today was Santos. I forgot who he was facing when he gave them three straight sliders that just looked vicious. Couldn't lay off, but couldn't come close to hitting it. I can't quite put my finger on Jones. For about 3 swings in the Ab, he looks awful...actually it seems he doesn't take it seriously until he gets to 2 strikes, and then he puts some good swings on the ball. And, yeah, I think we all see that our situational hitting is a lot better when there are a lot of opportunities. When you only have 2-3 a game and you don't convert, it sure looks worse than when you have 4-5 and convert 1-2 times. As far as Peavy...for 2 starts now his location has been something awful. When he AJ sets him up outside, about 40% of the time I'd say it would be on the other side of the plate. He's also only hitting 89 consistently and had absolutely no offspeed stuff to speak of. I'm shocked he's not injured, but glad. I just hope it's mechanics or something he can fix.
