QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) Yeah, but they're appointed for life so that they aren't pressured by politics so much. how is this pressured by politics, they ignored an issue for years because it was too hard and so state/local/fed gov'ts ran wild not caring, they basically just punted for years, and now they are going to punt again. They are supposed to interpret the constitution. So do it.

your right. We should let all companies compete against state lines (to insure no regulation) and mandate everyone buy insurance (as every bill has). That way we are protecting business! America's business is business!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) This means that any specific stand taken is, in essence, legislating from the bench, and would be labeled as "activist" or otherwise panned by one or both parties politically. Of things I absolutely don't care about, the quote above. Clearly the lawmakers at local/state/fed level are looking for some guidance on what is constitutional and what isn't. In other words, do your job. Setting standards can help.

cool tips. Thanks. I want to start a thread on google wave...good idea?

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) It's really difficult to get into the program though IIRC. Yeah. I didn't try, but i was in this, looking back, lame program where we did freshman orientation/parent orientation, and of that group, it looked very well on these types of programs radars. Now I can't stand it.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Wow, really? (goose stepping)... The government needs to do everything for me. /official drone yep.
-
thought this would happen. Also, was kind of annoyed that the SC is continuing to take such vague stands that open it up to case by case rulings. Surely they can come up with SOME standard to apply here.
-
the polls don't turn pretty dramatically, the public option is more popular than the president.
-
Well, the public option is what we are talking about. When polled people say they want the public option. Now say you are worried about the slippery slope to single-payer. The law as is cannot allow that to happen without a complete re-drafting. So that fight'll come when it comes. So, it's likely that we make this a medicare type system that people are happy with, and that's that.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) You guys live in a paralell universe or something. The town halls were all people that were paid, planted, and "organized" BY INSURANCE LOBBYISTS just like Obama said they would, right? It couldn't be that people don't want government run health care. It just couldn't be. people. Yes, there are plural, people, that don't want "government run healthcare". One, that's not what's happening. Two, just because some people don't, doesn't mean all don't. When we say the majority of Americans favor a public option. Majority = >50%. Meaning not all. But more than half. In fact, quite a tic more. And, there were quite a bit of conservative groups organizing tea party protests. I'm not saying people there weren't genuinely mad that the government was going to kill their grandmother or that the nazis were taking over, just that there was a bit push to get people into the health care forums to hoot and holler and say "READ THE BILL"

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Categorizing all conservatives along with these extremists is laughable none of us is saying that, nor have we said that. But, what I am saying is the crazy right seems to get coddled as "the hard working americans sick of government" instead of "man these people are dumb" the way they (accurately) show the stupid anarchists/lame hippies.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Do you really think they have the heavy hitters that the Daley's have? I think Chicago will win, but my point is, the naysayers saying "Well i'm sure them seeing this brutal beating" "yeah, I hope it goes to rio instead of our corrupt city" ... is rio is way, way worse. But I do think Rio has some heavy hitters coming to bat, it's more than brazil, it's South America that wants this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Hey welcome to the club! Neither is demonizing the President by labeling him as everything evil people can think of under the sun. It never did cause a genocide in the nineties when Bill was President no...but you know what did happen?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) Why bother? Everyone has forgotten about everything bad the Dems did then, so I figured it was OK to forget the GOP sins as well. yes i know, the poor conservative victims, your life is hard. My point was this hysterical rhetoric isn't something new.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) These people have always been out there. No one paid attention to them until the Dems figured out that they could demonize them into winning elections. Am i the only one that remembers the 90s?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Its one right-wing nut writer, who I am sure who have an audience of right-wing nut followers. I don't think there is any doubt that the far right wing of the GOP pretty much spazzed out during the past year, seeing that it appeared the Dems and moderates were taking over, and that the modern version of conservatism was failing. The result is what we have now - a larger number of idiots than normal, shouting from the rooftops. Those idiots were always there, they just weren't as vocal or exposed. Fortunately, they are still a small minority. a small minority getting an unusual amount of press time + leeway to make outlandish comments.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Its possible. If anyone could figure out the corrupt IOC, its the corrupt Rich Daley. Seriously, it's like you guys don't realize Rio is in the discussion. I assure you our corrupt system would be a shining beacon of gov't transparency there.

newsmax is a pretty popular right wing publication. How large does your audience have to be before you stop dismissing these people as "just one right wing nut"

wellp, we found a ticket $200 cheaper than anywhere else. So I'm a fan.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) The funny thing is that you contradicted yourself just by posting links from actual liberal media. that's not a contradiction.

you sure that's not taxesand fees?

GOP is patriotic.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Some aren't. Just like the climate change debate, not every scientist or every scientific piece should be taken at face value. But in both cases, when ALL OF THEM line up to the same conclusion more or less, its time to face reality. Like i've said before, most every poll i've seen comes with a full package of their methodology and questioning. for instance, the new kaiser family foundation poll, once you track the news articles to its original source, has the full methodology here: http://www.kff.org/kaiserpolls/posr092909pkg.cfm.
