  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Correct, and to use the XFL / NFL comparison... the NFL couldnt do a whole lot to run them out other than produce a better product. Which was really difficult!!!
  2. Congrats Israel on electing Netanyahu. Great move.

We also never even mentioned my favorite scene of the movie, the dinner scene where you gradually see Hearst and his first wife speak less and less and move farther and farther apart.

I know you said that Asia didn't really interest you that much, but among programs, I've heard great thing about JET, especially how they give you traveling stipends.

Didn't Welles try and claim most of the credit from Mankiewicz?
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) New Belgium's 1554 Black Ale combined with any high quality dark chocolate. You'll thank me later. No new belgium's to be found for me for a while. So I'll be mad at you now. To clarify, I actually like hershey's. But, if you are expecting the really rich beautifully crafted chocolate, they aren't the best. But Hershey's plus cheese plus beer or wine...is a f***ing delight.
  7. Well, cocacola is delicious. The American soda industry is the envy of the world, I'm not sure why Obama would want to destroy it.
  8. I was kind of hoping we'd have more time to answer, jason.
  9. I have to paraphrase Andrew Sullivan, who brought up a brilliant point. The most disgusting part of their misguidance, is that they are implying that the problem with Hitler wasn't his murder of millions of Jews, or his starting a world war, but his ECONOMIC POLICIES were what was wrong with him.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Woodward's problem is that he has become the prime example of a "Villager". He's no longer interested in getting beyond the story that people are willing to tell him and pissing people off in the process...he's traded away that behavior in exchange for access. There's not necessarily anything wrong with being a high level stenographer, those people should exist and do serve a purpose. And Woodward gets some interesting stuff when there is legitimate conflict occurring between the people he's interviewing, But there's just way too many of them today who aren't trying to get beyond what they're told. this. and he lost major relevancy with me over this: http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/...bby/index2.html

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) I think Toland used the optical printer to achieve the oversized room, as well as the low-angle up-shot camera to include the ceilings in the shots. Including the ceilings in many of the shots was pretty groundbreaking. Most films then were shot on movie lot soundstage sets and the sets never bothered to include ceilings. In some cases on Kane, true ceiling portions were built, and in others muslin cloth was used to give the appearance of a ceiling while also hiding the microphone booms and gaffing that were located on the other side of the muslin. That's what it was.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) I'd say that it would be very, very possible for the Sox to have the best rotation in the majors next year. Peavy - 3.25 Danks - 3.25 Buehrle - 3.75 Floyd - 3.75 Garcia & Hudson - 4.50 Those numbers don't seem out of the ordinary, and you'd be hardpressed to find any rotation with that kind of talent. No, they don't, they are capable of that. But I think the best shot we have of winning the division is if 2 or 3 guys have career years like 05.
  13. Woodward has been an awful journalist for a decade, however.
  14. I don't know why I continue to watch entourage besides boredom and availability. That Turtle/Jamie lynn Siegler storyline is of the most embarrassingly awful things I've ever watched. And Sunday nights being especially bad. And the fact that E and Turtle took so many solo story lines this year makes it especially bad. E is an awful character when he's doing anything else besides talking to Ari/helping vince's career. "oh should i be guilty about thinking another girl is hot?" "Come on man it's her last night" "I wanted lunch to be special" god damn what the hell.
  15. So, my cousin told me a story of when she was in the UK. She was on a bus and two Brits looked at her and said "are you American?" "Yes" "Your chocolate sucks" and, being entirely unconfrontational and disinterested in the topic, she said "Okay." and continued looking out the window. I on the other hand, would have claimed seniority on creating better arguments in the U.S., or pointed out how stupid they were for clearly assuming that Nestle and Hershey's were the best we had to offer. ANd for their sake, I hope Nestle buys out Cadbury so they can cry in their awful food. But, my roommate here in Brazil works with chocolate, and I have to say it's pretty good. So we're going to go two ways on this, which country has the best commercial chocolate, and what country you had the best chocolate in, specialty shops highlighted. For me, the german chocolate "kinderschokolade" has the best commercial chocolate. It's delicious and addicting. I just found out on a wikipedia search it's actually owned by an Italian group, but it was their german division that created it, so I'll give it to Germany. For straight up best chocolate I ever had, it was a specialty shop in Brussels, Belgium. It damn near knocked me on my ass and I couldn't speak it was so good. Now, I rarely go into chocolate shops in the U.S., as it usually doesn't seem worth my precious pennies. So I was wondering what everyone elses impressions were, best chocolate shop they've been to and where, and impressions on best commercial chocolate. I'd imagine Germany, Swiss and belgium should get some high marks. I'm also very bored.
  16. considering the people Bush gave presidential medal's to, this would fit the bill. They wouldn't give one to Kennedy because he actually accomplished things.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 03:59 AM) He's not stupid at all. He's using the Jay Moronotti "shock jock" approach to sports journalism. Since Hineybird left town, somebody else must step up to tap the Moron Sports Fan demographic. I don't buy that. This piece isn't antagonistic or insightfuly. It just seems like it was written on a mixture of barbiturates and alcohol.
  18. Clearly we should only trust Bush and Cheney to tell the truth about their presidencies. Anyone else is clearly lying.

In the scene where Kane finally gets all the journalists from the rival paper and has a banquet (that is the "there is a man" tap off I believe) is it low ceilings or mirrors they use to make him appear larger than life? That was a great shot.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) some people really are stupid. During the primaries, my wife made some comment on our website about how she wished Hillary would get hit by a car or something like that. I made her take it down because i didnt want the Secret Service knocking at my door. so are you referring to your wife as one of those "some people"
  21. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) I agree and disagree. As one of the 10%, I still would buy game day tickets. I can't and won't buy season tickets or a package, but I would still buy tickets to a couple of games a year if I can. Also, I believe unemployment rates have leveled off and actually went down in Illinois last month. In fact, I know of many people that have gotten jobs in the last month and all of a sudden I have two, possibly three interviews this week. Good luck!

QUOTE (Stocking @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 01:40 AM) Man I would love to try out Brazil. South Korea, while it does pay fairly well and is fully set-up, doesnt intrigue me so much. Who knows tho, Im trying to jet the Isles by January so really got to get the ball rolling. What grade level are you looking into teaching? Do you have any schools in mind yet? I have a friend's friend family who runs a school out there if you want a lead. Yeah, I interviewed with a school today that I'm very optimistic I'll get. I'd be working with mostly adults, the school has a good reputation with businesses in the area so they are sending their employees there to learn english. I hope it works out, it seems like a great fit. I appreciate the lead, though, I'll let you know if it arrives. Places like Brazil, Argentina, have a lot of demand for learning English, so even in times where classes aren't heavy, you can find plenty of students for private lessons once you get networking.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) The new Basement Jaxx album is, in my opinion, a disappointment. to say the least. But I guess I was just done with them after I hated the last album. Missin 2003 about now.

QUOTE (Stocking @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Thats how I feel. I have my BA in Secondary Ed, the cert seems like a complete waste. However I cannnot find a placement company that places in Japan without a TEFL cert or being an Alum of their program. Go to South Korea, my man. Or meet me in Brazil if you don't mind just making enough to live.
