Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs
Very unlikely kath or Montgomery are ready in 2 years. Think about how covid interrupted their development, and Montgomery is a cold weather kid

and jonathan schoop is the same, and he gets 1 year deals. And jose iglesias is the same, and he gets 1/2 year deals. These guys pretty much do grow on trees. La Stella got 3 for 19 because he was a tremendous hitter with nick madrigal contact rates but power, and showed it in the half a season prior, and then the covid season.

Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs
If progressive organizations are smart because they know relievers are fickle and just fodder to trade high on because they are so smart, then it doesn't matter if the Dodgers have a 1 billion dollar payroll, they decided to hand out the second highest contract ever to a reliever, and a long-term one. Or they should have traded him at the deadline before, they could have just relied on finding velo from a lesser arm. But even progressive organizations have decided to pay high prices for relievers despite them being completely fungible.

no. Guys. There is a cesar hernandez available every year. He was like the 12th best 2b available last year. He's fine, he's nice. We don't need to do this, there won't be a lack of interesting 2bs. He very well may not make 6 mill in the open market!

Resources are resources. You were complaining about the contractual pricetag, just minutes ago, it's not hard to follow.

But you said this: "I think there's a good reason that the progressive teams sell off good bullpen pieces every year and seem to find a way to make new ones out of thin air. There are methods for maximizing raw stuff, but these guys typically don't have enough tricks to make it last very long. """" Certainly for the Rays, this is true. But the Dodgers are progressive and decided not to let kenley jansen go and get a comp pick but instead sign him for a 6 year deal or whatever. I guess...if the sox did this in the offseason - did the rockies thing - I'd hate it. But, there needs to be some maximizing each season that happens, and stretching when that's needed. It is disappointing that we needed to use major league ready assets because we already had no farm. But the sox were in particular hit badly by the loss of a real 2020 draft, imo, and they do seem to be trying to straighten it out quick, but could fail because they are completely unproven there. I would have preferred madrigal and heuer turn into trea turner, it's definitely better use of resources. But I also just want them to take seriously each year. And trading a true 2nd baseman and a RP aren't the profiels I'm scared of trading away.

can't wait for the memoirs when Rick walks into a conference room and passes out 20 copies of "Tony's" message board post. "This came from the manager?" "No, different tony."

Volatility works both ways, he is a great bullpen arm. Heuers a big loss for next year.

Ha, yeah I mean this is definitely mortgaging the future. Very explicitly.

I mean the dodgers paid kenley jansen $80 million and the yankees pump a shit ton into their pen. It's not ideal, but you kinda need more than trusting in regression when you are in midseason.

The sox having cost controlled position players and SP allowed them to be dumb with the bullpen when they needed it for a playoff push. That's fine. What will keep them competitive in 2025 is that they chose cespedes and colas over a real intl class, AND/OR shirley is a bad scouting director.

I mean, honestly yes, I only care about what a pitcher is at the moment we trade for them, this i slike that dumbass argument that Reynaldo lopez was better than Joe Musgrove because of 2018 in the offseason. And you also just happen to be talking about maybe the one relief pitcher in baseball that has been a fixture for a decade except for a season where he tried to hold out into the season and was terrible, and the covid season, where there was a lot of weird issues. SO taking Craig Kimbrels 3 year sample, in particular, is rich. But I wouldn't care anyway, because we are getting him for what he looks like now. Everybody knows the deal.
