2022 MLB Draft Thread
Yeah that's what I remembered later but then when I saw others mention it I thought maybe we just gave up a 2nd rounder but still got a 1st round comp. Oh well, still would be an extra million.

Royals Listening on Merrifield

Royals Listening on Merrifield
I don't see the yankees wanting a 2b and solidifying gleybar at SS, and I fully expect them to be in on the SS market this offseason. And with DJ's 6 year contract, they already have a somewhat flexible infielder on the books for a while.

Royals Listening on Merrifield
They are about to get two of the best offensive prospects in the game. I don't really get the swooning for the tigers, the kc pitching isn't at the same level but it is deep and their offense looks much more promising.

White Sox power outage
I can't find the thread but I polled soxtalk on who we thought would be tops in most offensive categories and eloy was tops in almost all except average with tim. We've had so many nights of just a guy carrying us, hard to remember how nice it is when you have 3-4 clicking at the same time.

Royals Listening on Merrifield
I don't know, they are very milquetoast in how they deploy him. If he was on the dodgers he'd probably have a 900 ops and play 5 positions like the rest of them. He just reminds me a lot of zobrist but granted does not have the same obp. But I think that's partly because kc is a little more old school and may want him to lean into that. Sox don't really change that though.

Royals Listening on Merrifield
I mentioned that I think the royals could be interested in a package surrounding Jake Burger considering the structure of their team where lopez could move to second, witt comes to short, but I did not know of a great 3b option (Pratto will also be coming up to 1b). In Rosenthal today: • The Athletic’s Jayson Stark hears the Royals appear more open than in the past to trading All-Star second baseman Whit Merrifield, who is batting .272 with a .726 OPS, leads the majors with 24 stolen bases in 25 attempts and remains one of the game’s bigger bargains. Merrifield, 32, is owed the rest of his $7.25 million salary this season and $3.25 million next season, and his contract includes an $11 million club option in 2023 (he took less money in ’22 to protect against a possible lockout). The Royals, though, have told other teams they believe they are close to contention, and are signaling that they do not want to trade established major leaguers for prospects who might not join them for three or four years. That could make it difficult for them to match up with clubs that have expressed interest in Merrifield. While Merrifield's offense may be underwhelming, he would be an excellent utility piece to have that reminds me of fitting in zobrist. His speed and contact ability to me add to our fun complementary group of anderson and madrigal alongside the obp and power of grandal, abreu, moncada, eloy. While right haned, he's been able to maintain league average production vs righties for his career, though he has dipped. Concerns would be : sapped power this year, but he was really heating up in june power wise - but has had a tough July to date. Burger seems great, and I am against the notion of trading because they are blocked, but as a corner RHH on a health sox team with eloy coming back, I really don't know if we can find him time. And his play at 3b showed to me at least that he can stick.

Trade Deadline Thread
Next year the following middle infielders are free agents: semien story seager crawford correa baez a. simmons c taylor schoop miller iglesias gonzalez lowrie galvis adrianza Some of these guys already had to wait until march for deals this year. This is a good time to need a MI, next year the sox do not, as is the case with many teams.

Ah, the post from all of last week when Parkman said if the Sox hadn’t signed him to an extension they probably wouldn’t even pick up his option lol

Cleveland being 15.5 games down in 2005 will forever terrify me of taking foot off the gas in a division race.

The Grandal will come out tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar
Zevala is not a major league catcher. There is no shortage of better defensive catchers that can’t hit.

White Sox Minor League Big Data Developments ?
I'm not sure there is an easy answer to this. Getz has clearly modernized player development and kept up with the technology that flooded that field in the last 5 years. All teams have though and I don't know that it's ahead or behind anyone. He hired Ben Hansen as a senior biomechanical engineer, and he was credited with finding velo for McClure and Pilkington. He has since left. But the thing is he came from Motus Global which he helped found and was a company that created wearables, which the sox were a client. So it isn't easy to just add up the number of analysis or sciencey titles in the sox F.O., they may just outsource more than others and that's not necessarily bad. Katz came from SF which had been great at "using data" in their pitching staff success. They hired Ryan Johansen from Johansen Baseball who uses blast motion and other monitors for hitters and he is the sox assistant hitting coordinator and integrates that stuff to all of the instructors. Jake Burger was reported a darling of the sox because of the trackman data available on him at Mo. State and I believe there was similar info on sheets since WF had it but that's fuzzy. You have this year's 5th round pick who was put on the map due to great spin rates on his slurve. So sox are clearly integrating all of these known techniques, but also aren't just a team that has a model spit out their draft picks. I don't know that there is a baseball team other than the rockies that would be considered "behind the times" now.

Left-handed bats are good because they hit right handed pitching, but Marte hits right handed pitching better than left handed pitching, but both above average. I too don't think we go OF, but his offensive value would be welcome.

Deadline Prediction Thread
People hyperventilating over his cost. He's a 2b, he's nice and versatile, but when people are like "I'll just get Jonathan Schoop instead" you aren't an incredible market maker.

Maybe, but there is no shortage of middle infielders right now. He's a 32-year old top 15 second baseman.
