All in all, Sox have done really well with Hamilton this year and Dyson last year (Hamilton obviously has like tripled GP of dyson but still)

Well done dude

Ballpark Experience at G-Rate Field so far in 2021

So how does the ballpark app food ordering work? -
Obviously we have a great record and great run differential so none of this is shocking but fun to look at fangraphs team leaderboards where Sox are: 1st in hitting fWAR 1st in pitching fWar (bullpen top 5 btw) 6 in fielding This year has been so crazy but even in places where it felt like Sox were struggling (bullpen, may offense) other teams are struggling so so much more. For example, Colorado scored like 10 total runs its last 7 games

Would be thrilled with that.

Turns out I was faulty in one thing, this Eloy homer I remembered was in June. I just remember walking to that part of CF and thinking how there was no way it was only 470. That Nats / Sox series was incredible baseball in 2019 and set the nats off on their tear en route to a world series

My first game. Hurt my head thinking about this. The last time I went to a Sox game: - Ross Detwiler was pitcher - Luis Robert wasn’t yet on the team - Nick Madrigal wasn’t yet in the team - Andrew Vaughn wasn’t yet on the team - Adam Engel had just started to destroy LHP but most still disliked him - Jose Abreu wasn’t an MVP winner - Jimenez had just hit that 600 ft homer some times before - Luis Robert and Jimenez had not yet been lost for year ? - Yermin Mercedes had a 1.000 OPS in Charlotte but most of us shrugged it off - AJ Reed was playing baseball for us... - Garret Crochet was in college but ... TA was leading the way for his batting title, Moncada was having a star season, and Abreu was leading league in RBIs, so some stuff will be familiar. Please TLR, let me see some of the guys I want today

Timo also had a big Memorial Day weekend in 05
-
Curbelo with an RBI double
-
Also great pitching by Lynn, which is like automatic at this point.

Jose !!! Billy!!!!
-
Nasty. Double headers a lot more fun this year!
-
Taking my son to the game tomorrow. If TA doesn’t play he will be throwing a fit. Was sorta hoping he’d sit today ha

Sheets 4-4. Man, Kanny outside of Jose Rodriguez is all in worse than a rut.

The white sox did a hell of a lot more to develop Yoan Moncada than the Red Sox did
-
I think this is a bit crazy. Certainly TA is an amazing success story, but Yoan was in AA and coming off a disastrous mlb stint. Eloy was in A ball. Robert was 19 playing in a watered down Cuban League. And they all made it and have all been successful hitters. No matter how polished you think Vaughn and Madrigal are, they made it to the bigs and Vaughn did so whilst being developed with no minor leagues. And add to that, Engel was a bad college hitter drafted in the 20th round who made it to the bigs and has become a productive player. Mendick was a teens mlb pick now an mlb player. Even Leury, he was a defense first, nothing offensive player that was transformed into an MLB depth piece when used right. Jake Burger doing what he's doing in AAA makes him now one of the better batters selected in the last 20 picks of the first round in 2017. Granted Nick Pratto has been pretty good in AA now, and that Evan White 28 wRC+ looks sexy.

Yeah not surprised beat writers May have something here, but if you are a national writer and have a take on this... you are full of shit

I get this, it's just this year we are at 22 instead of top ten, and I think he's athletic enough that he's not done changing. But it's uber risky, I get. And you don't want to become the 00s white sox that got zero production out of first round picks.

It's interesting but upclose it is not straight black but imitates asphalt I think?

I actually think the call to mies van der rohe (if that is a real quote) is my favorite part about it, especially given it being so near to IIT. But the fonts, god those are terrible.

I think this is a little overblown, but I will say I don't feel like the sox do a good job of creating lore or any nostalgia. And I know you can say it's because they lack winning, but i can't think of a franchise as old as the sox that has stayed in one place with such a lack of history/disjointed history. But you can always "start that", and what's unfortunate about this is missing some reference to a feature that was just about going to sox games. Just in the same way I hope we carry on the nancy faust salute to loser pitchers, this was a nice place where parents could tell their kids about a vendor that was there every year of their childhood. It's good to cultivate that stuff that's just about going to games and having a shared knowledge. Overall, this is just someone being way too into alliteration and not enough people on staff knowing the history, in my estimation.

Is he a switch hitter or Left Handed?

So this thread is a good reminder that the year is long and unrelenting. But some funny stuff at this point in time. Joc after his horrid start is now up to a 106 wRC+, and is now 0.0 WAR. He has been dragged down by poor LF defense, which is consistent with previous years where RF was his strongest place. After a great start, Eaton is hobbling and down to 91 wRC+ and 0.7 WAR driven by strong RF defense, which is good since that fell off quite a bit last year. But here's the funny part to me. Production vs. RHP (Left is Joc, right is Eaton) 123 vs. 111 Production vs. LHP (Left is Joc, Right is Eaton) 45 vs - 14 Funny to me just because of the howling about Joc being a platoon player and eaton being unbelievably bad vs lhp this year (.290 ops, 2 hits all year). In July, I'm sure Eaton gets a few hits off LHP and is just appropriately bad. Now Mazara: 63 wRC+ and -0.5 war. So...fun stuff. The season is long...so so long.

I don't think the changing hats thing is that big of a deal, I think the "it's illegal but we mostly don't care but also announce very public investigations about it to tarnish star players" part of it is what I hate. The issue is they take a "speed limit" approach to everything in baseball, where a little bit is okay but a lot is too much, but if everyones doing a lot then it's too hard for them to enforce still so they just snipe at the players and randomly make examples out of people.
