A Nick Madrigal Sized Sample
I think there would be more patience but also much more anger that they went into the season with him starting when there were two cheap starters at 2b available

The Andrew Vaughn LF Thread
Well, for comparison that makes him faster than Jay Bruce and Alex Gordon last year, and basically as fast as Shin-soo choo. And not that much slower than Juan Soto. But still very slow.

2021 MLB Draft Thread
really interesting BA "ten risers" article today. First Matt Mikulski from fordham re-did his arm action after going undrafted last year, in a way that seems very similar to how Katz has been working with our pitchers. May be a good fit. He's up to 97-98 this year, and is a senior, but likely to get real money. Thatcher hurd, who went from being a HS catcher to focusing just on pitcher this year and is 6'4, 205 lbs with a clean delivery: "Hurd fits the mold of a high school pitcher with advanced athleticism and body control, who is topping out around 94 mph now, but could take big velocity strides in the future. He has the potential for two different swing-and-miss breaking balls and has shown a changeup that gets above-average future projections—loud praise for a prep pitcher" Lastly, this dude: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2021-mlb-draft-stock-watch-10-rising-prospects-in-our-ba-300-update/

White Sox winner!
this except unironically. Default should be high rbis are unimpressive, but when you have a hitter like abreu whose approach and production with men on base is so consistently high than it's noteworthy. And granted, it probably was why he won the MVP last year over jose ramirez - and I think that's probably good.

The Andrew Vaughn LF Thread
I might be exaggerating since I haven't "seen him" play LF but it seems like he's the best defensive left fielder we've ever had?

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Let's say there are 400 people per million in texas with covid currently. But that is perfectly distributed within the stadium of 38,000. That's 15 people in the stadium. Now let's say in their section, they have 4 people next to them, and 3 in front within 5 feet. That's 105 people at risk. Now let's assume all 105 people would normally get covid, but since it's outside, they are only 5% likely to contract. That's 5.25 people, and that's assuming 0 vaccinated people, zero mask mitigation, but we can see there was still quite a bit of masks at the game. But we can also see there is quite a bit of masks, and we know about Dallas County, 36% have some protection with first shot. These numbers are just as back of the napkin, and yes, ideally you wait a month. But the amount of handwringing beaches and outdoor events like these get compared to what is driving much of the spread is completely out of whack. Illinois could continue to spike, and we'll have a discussion on the baseball stadiums, when 95% of it will likely be families driving to visit families in michigan and vice versa, attending restaurants, and going to work for 8 hours a day. Yes, it's better for texas to cut capacity at least in half.

Having all these night games right at the beginning of the season kind of sucks
It is very on brand for Chicago that they've finally done what we've asked and started season on a west coast road trip, only for the weather back home to be the most incredible april weather...then for them to return and it will be rained out every day ha.

2020 NBA Regular Season Thread
It was an interesting game to really watch yesterday. Still very much feels like they are still working through a lot of chemistry stuff, nice to see a win again with all of that. Main reason I say that is Zach and Vuc's efficiency seems way down now that they've been paired together. Some of the rest of the team has found some groove within the offense last night, but when things falter seems like it goes back out to lavine/vuc for a tough/late shot.

Robert's batting approach
I agree with this! And I'm still hopeful because I have @fathom 's post on Tim Anderson engrained in my brain when he would just write "he's just guessing" after every TA at bat.

I'm still mad and I'll never get over it. Listen, if the west coast wants to be a part of our baseball league they are going to have to play games at 5pm, that's the rules.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I honestly don't think the baseball stadiums for fans are going to end up found as much of a risk at all. The people I worry about in them were the employees, and good chance they have been vaccinated to this point. Go to the park, go to the zoo, go to the beach, go to a baseball game. You'll be fine but may end up on a picture shaming people for being outside. Go to a 50 person indoor wedding and you are at a much higher risk of being part of a super spreading event, but the good news is much lower chance of public shaming.

Probably one of the benefits of having an established vet is not needing to force feed rhythm or so I hope.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
not that it's a big deal, but walgreen's instructions tell you to print out and fill out a form, but for me and others I've talked to they end up having to give you one they print out when you are there anyway so there is no need. Just show up 15 min early and expect some paperwork.

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
always add, never subtract unless forced.

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
I think this is more why it’s fair for fans to think this way but I would hope our self scouting is good enough that they could see he translates as a bat at least as much as AJ reed. But it would have been tough last year, I get it, but thank goodness they gave him a shot this year.

And that’s a white Sox winner!!!
Amen

What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
this is so dumb, you just keep them all because they are all in cheap years and then you have more good players. Trading from surplus on a competitive team is such video game thinking.

Forbes White Sox evaluation- #14 worth $1.685 Billion
this feels low to me but the mets deal was lower than I'd have predicted, maybe forbes is finally close to reality.
