COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Jeeze I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it clears up soon, sucks that she'll be in limbo with a second round through the summer but I know UK was doing mix-and-match trials with different vaccines.

IL 7-day average now at 110k/day, about 10% from 10 days ago. Hoping we get some bigger jumps soon as J&J comes online + more eligibility.

2021 BOLD predictions thread
I was inspired by the Cease for Cy Young article. All bold predictions are always stuff like "mookie betts will be better than mike trout this year" and it's like okay, but those are two great players. Gimme this chex mix bold and spicy, not cheddar crunch.

2021 MLB Draft Thread
I'm not advocating that, I've done research before on the hell pit of college picks k'ing greater than even 20%. But Kendall was also awful in his cape cod league stint and had more gap power than pure power. Fabian lit up the cape code league as I think the youngest guy there. This year I would bet more than any some of the tried-and-true draft heuristics will fail us. I'd be too scared to bet on Fabian, but it's a weirder case than Kendall.

US is approved for 16+ as is UK already. 12-16 isn't far behind, but I'm sure the rest is very accurate and insightful.

That number has also been shrinking, so it seems there is a good amount of posturing to own the libs.

Definitely. I'm glad there is anxiety around the rising cases because you are right - at this point the deaths seem so cruel with such a short time to go. But Israel is a good place to look to for perspective and hope. They were vaccinating people like crazy but cases were rising into that. They reported 0 cases yesterday. The lag really sucks, we vaccinated so many the last month, and many more this month to come. And so maybe it isn't until Memorial day where we all really feel it being crushed again. Maybe it takes hold way earlier with so many more interruptions with vaccinated people and it doesn't spread as easily and this is just a smaller hump. The local health depts seemed totally crappy at getting shots out quickly, I'm hoping they are much more equipped to do what they are more often doing and reaching out to the most vulnerable/hidden/resistent and are successful getting more of them vaccinated.

NFL 2021 offseason thread
Makes you think about cutler when his best OC was Gase (post-Shanny) and Gase was such a bad OC that taking on the QBs that looked horrible under him seems like the moneyball play in the NFL. The Jets were so bad in every facet last year, but man, how often does it turn out to have just been circumstances around a QB. He really did look like something under Bowles.

2020 NBA Regular Season Thread
It sucks because there isn't that much time left but they do deserve some time. People were making fun of the nets post harden acquisition as they were getting destroyed on defense. Eventually they found the right mix. Even though this ain't harden, it's a huge roster shake-up regardless.

Which player will play the most innings in Left Field for the 2021 Chicago White Sox?
I think the crux of this is mainly people thinking Engel v. Leury. Leury also is terrible against righties, and Engel >> Leury defensively. So at least for me I'm not comparing Engel to some hypothetical average outfielder that we don't currently have. And once we get there, the question is just around whether you believe in vaughn as a LF in a real way. I'd imagine that Vaughn is a better hitter vs righties than Engel and Leury and also think he should be better vs. lefties than both. But he could be so bad in left field it makes it a wash. I wouldn't want to rely on Engel in LF full time, but of what we have I think he's better than Leury and just don't know what to make of vaughn. But I voted Vaughn because they seem reasonably committed here.

Which player will play the most innings in Left Field for the 2021 Chicago White Sox?
OK, so he may not be a 130 wRC+ player vs righties, otherwise he would be one of the best LF in the AL with his defense. But 28% k rate doesn't make me that squeemish. Yoan was 37% from his weakest side last year. The good news was Engel was doing stuff like making more contact in the zone and chasing less. I don't think Engel will be a plus hitter from the right side but I do think he's offensively miles ahead of where he was 2 years ago, really ever since the second half of 2019. So he was a 60 wRC+ guy in 2019 from the Right side. Last year he put up doubel that. Is it in the middle at 90 wRC+? That would make him very playable if he really is close to this above average hitter from the left side.
