the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
That's what he's talking about. Someone was throwing out a 3 for 120 deal for Bauer, and he pointed out that it would actually push sox into luxury tax trouble.

I am excited to watch a bulls game.

You are right, sorry, I was going off memory. They do have some threads they could pull, but you are right, a lump contract like that is a bigger obstacle than I realized. Plus I wonder if the new CBA won't tighten things more.

You are like the character in a horror movie that keeps calling out to evil spirits as a joke and then they show up.

hey to be fair someone posted his tweet and they were asking who it was, had nothing to do with food accounts.

I think it's closer to like $145 but there's so much confusing variation here. Spotrac has sox $8 mill less than I and roster resource have them, but it has their Lux tax at 140, so I don't know whether to pay attention to theirs.

lol maybe but it started because the als cheesy beef account retweeted a bunch of corbin burnes hype videos that were old so I figured something could be up there. Then homeboy @Orlando found the reddit thread.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I'm setting a personal goal that Illinois maintain a 30k vaccine per day pace through phase 1b, which would move through that 3.2 million by mid-may. This will require either getting substantially more out of weekdays (38k today) or not taking off weekends for some reason.

would much rather do a 3/$42M deal with Odorizzi than $40 mill/yr with bauer.

it's fun thinking about the way I follow the sox now isn't much different than the people that loved twilight so much they read additional fan-fic and my EL James is the combined foodies. edit: accidentally mixed up twilight/fifty shades of gray authors, embarrassing.

madrigal, heuer, stiever, thompson was what our elevator-loving reddit poster heard was agreed to then milwaukee countered with Crochet.

dude gets limited views in an insane scouting year, sox take that chance, he gets up to minors in SAME YEAR and dominates MAJOR LEAGUE HITTERS IN A DIVISION RACE AND PLAYOFF GAME struck out 37% of hitters faced and a .5 WHIP all while throwing the easiest upper 90s we've seen. I'm sure a couple teams that passed on him re evaluated.

Also wouldn't the good news in that scenario be that Cease is pitching well enough not to be bumped AND that everyone is healthy?

There haven't been near enough examples to know this. If he has a workout and looks good and feels good, he's worth a flyer on. He has good upside.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
It's good that cases are coming down for now, but if it starts raging with the new variant while our biggest group gets vaccinated we are going to see a bunch of people get sick within that 1-2 weeks of their first shot. It would be awful if it wasn't even mitigating the most severe symptoms by then. Certainly feels like we just need to get lucky that this new variant doesn't spread out of control I don't know.

I don't really care if they DO go Richards, but I do think part of it may be compatibility with Katz who would have seen a lot of him last year. He's definitely a scout signing, there's a lot there, but you are wishing upon him and at a relatively advanced age. Pitchers constantly rewrite history though, so hard to ever be out.

I think Chris Archer would be a good pickup. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/chris-archer-502042?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb He opted out last year, where he missed an opportunity to work with new pitching coach in Pitt where Musgrove saw some success when it clicked. Look at this quote from February of last year: https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2020/02/14/pirates-pitcher-chris-archer-is-ready-for-new-season/ In his 4 IP in spring training last year, he had 2 IP, 4 ks, 1 hit, 0 runs. Hardly something to hang your hat on, but still it's something. In Pitt, Searage forced the sinker into his rotation and a curve. Neither were good, and it seemed like they made his slider less effective. His changeup went from excellent sink to below average. Get him back to being a 3-pitch pitcher and see what he can do.

This thread hits the inevitable zombie status where it is basically dead but there won’t be closure because he likely isn’t traded anywhere so we’ll just keep coming back and talking about gyros soon

otoh there's a number of teams that are behind bulls that by talent will likely start playing better. And I think teams undersell cleveland who now has a devastating defense. glad we didn't go hayes in draft. He looked awful even before this injury.

Well he ditched his changeup this year so clearly he couldn't command it. And that continues to be the point. The "but his stuff!" is not in doubt, it's whether this fastball-slider pitcher is going to be able to command his slider enough so that hitters aren't able to just time his fastball.
