This was a great post.
-
Yeah, if it shortened the regular season though that'd be great. It's a slog in september.
-
Right...can you imagine how demoralizing it would be if the 103-win yankees specifically picked the 101 win twins instead of some wildcard (granted, since astros would have picked first the yanks would have gotten twins anyway but hypothetically!) It would be a lot of fun.

I don't know, I like it. All of it.

Parasite won a bunch last night. Eminem sang. I am excited to see Downhill. I have seen force majeur and loved it and I'm not sure if that ruins it, but I think JLD and Ferrell will be too good to avoid anyway.

Convert Puig to bullpen pitcher. edit: reliever, if you will.

I think the issue as always with these is when teams actually seek a return, which is why my post says what it says. If they were truly dumping the salary they could, but they felt they need a boost with cheap but productive talent, and trading Mookie was only chance to offload players + acquire talent. Someone mentioned that they needed to dip under the tax to re-sign betts...as you mentioned that's not what this is about.

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/driveline-baseball-buys-pitching-sensor-company/ I'm sure this won't be a viral post, but thought it was worth noting that Driveline BAseball acquired Motus Global. Driveline is pretty popular and we know about it, but Motus Global was where Ben Hansen worked as VP of Biomechanics and Innovation. Ben Hansen was hired by the sox to be there Senior Biomechanical Engineer, as excellently detailed by @Y2Jimmy0 in the article below. That hire was a bit under the radar, but I'm not sure it isn't as big a move forward for this organization as Driveline's Boddy moving to Cincinnati. It is excellent to have someone this familiar with the new tech and how to instruct with it in Hansen. http://futuresox.com/index.php/2020/02/03/brave-new-world-white-sox-enter-the-realm-of-biomechanics/ Massive kudos to Getz as well as KW and Hahn for finally putting pieces into place here. If you are into the player development news for the sox, this winter has been incredibly informative. There is also this great piece from Fegan: https://theathletic.com/1577744/2020/02/05/fixing-fegan-an-up-close-look-at-how-two-white-sox-coaches-can-help-hitters/ https://theathletic.com/1563110/2020/01/27/we-look-at-the-numbers-every-day-white-sox-tout-technology-usage-in-scouting-player-development/

If re-setting under the penalty was the main goal, it's not like there weren't other avenues to do it for the red sox. JBJ was not shed and he's making 11 million. Price had half his salary paid down to move, certainly could have moved with that and that gets you there. Sign kevin pillar for CF and you are a better team than they are now. It was thinking they could build a better team with the return from mookie than with him. They aren't going to re-sign him.

I mean I don’t know if you’ve ever read baseball tweets before but that’s pretty standard. This tweet clearly goes further, but many on this board would equate the two.
-
Eh his tweet just said that Sox liked all the Dodgers-moved players and maybe could try to fill the void. Didn’t say they were.
-
Being mentioned in intl is never bad. The exciting thing is Sox possibly adding multiple mature prospects out of intl, a real boost to near term depth.
-
If sox believe he is the kind of reliever that will be consistent, there will be some benefit to just smoothing out his arb years. The reliever arbitration salaries are so weird to me, many outperforming starters. Sox may pay him some upfront in order to save on the backend and maybe buy out a year.
-
Ever since you proposed that theory it just seemed too plausible. Last year was an outlier even for our track record, it just had to have been blown up.
-
The thing is is his last name is Bailey so you really could have pulled off “it’s all about the Benjamin, Bailey”
-
I’m feeling very positive toward a lot of our operations in this last month. Between the coaching assignments, hearing Shirley talk, the @Y2Jimmy0 article with the new biometrics guy, and now staring at a possibly very productive J2, all of the things that worried me most at least seem different and maybe proof that last years class just got away from them.
-
Very very pleased between this and this years draft Sox have a chance to really boost pitching depth
-
Sweet
-
Seems like Boston specifically wanted “mlb ready” guys, Dodgers may not want to give away any of their pitching like that

Fangraphs Season Preview Podcast for Sox
bmags replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i mean, that's why they invite the local writer (fegan) -
Yeah, I think it just reflects the post below yours, this caught a lot of traction, caused a lot of sox media to comment or seek comment on it. And if there is an online conversation like that happening, good chance the social media managers will know about it and in this case tried to be a part of it.
-
People act like the social media managers of teams are like, sitting in Rick Hahn's office.
-
Was about to say "man that would be some infield" forgetting that ... it already is with Story/Arenado and also...their 1b is like ian desmond or some old mannequin they found in the attic.
-
the biggest issue is there is no way Arenado, a player, has been told this news, made a decision, and the only person that will hear about it for days is mlbintel.
-
This just makes it worse.
