  1. This push of the second tier guys into the first tier contract territory was what I worried about. I’d go harder after tier 1. Lots of big contract pitchers in the World Series, many of them moved after their big contract. Good pitchers are a better investment then Steve stone indicates.
  2. Happy for nats. Goes to show you don’t need some aggressively analytical front office to win a WS still, but do need super talented and competent decision makers.
  3. I did not hear this. Thought it was all about how DD did not set them up for future.
  4. I just want to point out that OP asked who we would prefer absent worrying about cost or feasibility.
  5. Easily Cole, but glad Strasburg got to remind everyone how good he is when he can play.
  6. Worse - setting up the sox in position so that they can claim grievance against system in order to rally owners to a draft.
  7. That’s ridiculous. The guy has been available for three straight offseason, and traded once, and you think he’ll be cheap this year, yet we need to act like this is rare? the team that signed him, did so for 2b, yet nobody thought that he could?
  8. Robin lopez looked completely washed up in October last year then ended up one of the best players on the team. It’s early.
  9. If Lavine wants to know why nobody thinks he’s a winning player he should watch the last 4 minutes on repeat. Going for selfish rebounds while fighting against teammates, taking horrible shots early in clock, losing his guy routinely. Complete ass.
  10. I’m going to stop thinking any Chicago team is good.
  11. Moustakas, for instance, was available last year, and the year prior. And he’s available this year, and is cheap despite being a rare, valuable commodity.
  12. If Vaughn is that good you can just trade JDM.
  13. Here's the thing for me, a Moustakas is available every year, pretty much every month outside August/Sept/October. Stretching trying to make sure every roster has a stable chance of 2 WAR is a fools errand to me because you just as often end up having spent resources on several replaceable players. Go get some really good things, and if needed you can send them off next year becasue they will still be somewhat wanted. You aren't going to get truly screwed on JDM for 3 years, just like you won't get screwed with Mous.
  14. I didn't say Nimmo would be low to acquire. His literal price tag is likely to be low, however.
  15. You'd have to trade for a Nimmo Regardless, to make it work trading for a cheaper OF that is on the outs due to depth or questionable pedigree (Tauchmann)/Rockies. Both require needing idiosyncrasies from those front offices. This is where we should probably get comfortable with Mazara being the addition.
  16. Oh cool, an internal promotion on a team with a hall of fame QB, we've found a great example.
  17. Don't you want it to be successful? When was the last time it ended up working out?
  18. You'd have to trade for a Nimmo who carries a very low price tag due to injuries/arb status.
  19. He may have played the kick differently from the middle and missed all the same.
  20. Great hitters cover up a lot. Moustakas walk rate drops down to 7% where it was most of his career, then suddenly he's a lot closer to average. Are we glad we spent money on an average hitter? I'd rather they spend money on assets that are hard to acquire (that's where we've had the most success anyway) rather than "spread the money around". If we sign Moustakas because we signed a top pitcher, then fine.
  21. This new game plan only scored 16 points against the Chargers, which is not a good defense. 16 points should not really be expected to win games. While there are some high profile recent QBs struggling along with Mitch, only Baker really has an offense close in talent and coaching consistency. It feels like 2/3s of the Qbs in the league have been from 2016, and he's in the bottom tier in performance, now getting outplayed by Daniel Jones, Gardner Minshew, Kyle Allen, not even just the top guys.
  22. Any team that drafts a rookie QB should do exactly what the bears did (at least in salary terms), it sucks that it didn't work out but you should take advantage of the rookie qb contract.
  23. Yeah you can't do this in isolation. If we could only have one addition and I was asked to choose between Mous or JD I'm choosing JDM, if the additional cost of JDM is causing us to sign Tanner Rourk as our pitching help for some reason then it's Mous. I do like how Mous can start out at 2b and then slide over to DH. The only thing I worry about with Moustakas is when his walk rate dips he may not have the power to make up for it to keep him that much over average. And at the DH spot that's not particularly exciting, this is the Abreu problem anyway.
