  1. Yeah, We just got burned for this with Jay, but I do like how Gardner gets on base. This team also needs a better mix of guys who can take a walk while not striking out 30% of time. But, at his age you never know when contact will crater so much it won’t matter. I still like him though, if next year is going well but Gardner isn’t, low cost trades would be available. As long as we are looking at stop gaps he is a one I like.
  2. I’m pretty sure Yonders buyout goes on the 2020 salary books at least in terms of the luxury tax calculation. He appears on spotracs 2020 salaries, but it’s possible that gets triggered when he’s DFAd
  3. I think this is my fault, I was summing up the wrong column in the spreadsheet I made. It’s corrected on the main one now but if he copied it before it would still be summing up 2019 salaries.
  4. My other pet theory is owners (including JR) may try to make a shoe of spending more this offseason to make a less contentious CBA negotiation.
  5. True, I guess my point is worrying that the dropoff in price for those guys may not be proportional to what people would expect based on their talent/track record. It happens in FA, but I could see a bunch of teams assuming they can't get Cole/Stras, blow up the prices of tier B, and then the market for Cole/Stras is 2 teams (like last year) where thye sign in Feb but still end up with around their asking price.
  6. I'm a little worried that every team will do this and the market for Wheeler/Bumgarner spooks Hahn & Co.
  7. Ok we are fixed. Sad, the new max pitching is quite more modest and still puts us at 125 mill. Thanks @Chicago White Sox !
  8. This is my "max pitching" offseason. @CaliSoxFanViaSWside @wsox05 what do you think? Tendered everyone sans Yolmer, Osich, Goins. Massive updates had to happen. Wheeler/McHugh main pitching upgrades.
  9. Pederson, Betts, Springer 2020 free agents. There are reasons to "shore up" the offense this year while taking advantage of its good pitching class.
  10. Happy for Rizzo. He put together a lot of good teams that just didn’t make sense why they couldn’t break through. They are a more old school org, yet are unbelievably better than Sox at FA and intl.
  11. That’s as high as it will go but it’s also a deal you don’t “think twice” about
  12. Caulfield this is one of your best posts
  13. That’s what everyone said about Hosmer.
  14. Ah we are up to 5/155 already.
  15. Considering the struggles we’ve seen from mid season acquisitions I think it was pretty good.
  16. I agree. And him performing that well with the insane HR environment pushing his HR rate to career highs, I’m more convinced he can sustain. But we will see what plays out. More suitors this year, but way more pitchers.
  17. Ryu on a high AAV short term deal is interesting but I think he’ll just end back up in LA.
  18. I want like 15 different pitchers and keep switching up which ones to get. Great FA pitcher year.
  19. Yeah to be clear I’m pro McHugh, but deep down I’d like a heavier 1-2 punch AND McHugh and deal with offense later. like Wheeler, keuchel and McHugh.
  20. They will certainly try not to!
  21. If you had to guess you think he will sign for the same amount as Patrick corbin. I’ll take the over
  22. The idea that strasburg will be a bargain over Cole is crazy. Dude will get 8 years if he opts out. He wouldn’t opt out for a 5 year deal. 7 or 8. Not 5
  23. Very relatable guy
