  1. All I know is if Rawlings posted a picture and the gloves were phillies red I'd be losing my mind,
  2. In like ten seconds well see a tweet that the phillies are changing their colors to black and red.
  3. I found it interesting that jerry crasnick, former national sportswriter, retweeted Tony Clark's statement. Crasnick now works with the MLBPA, but am surprised he joined taking a shot at a former writer.

    Tax Refunds

Just something to keep in mind about universities: it had a massive influx of students from 00-14, around the same time starting in 2000 state funding toward universities started to decline for many state institutions. In addition, school selection doesn't behave as a true market. Many schools found that increasing tuition gave the appearance of selectivity, making it seem like a better school, and saw increase in applications. Much like healthcare, it seems people have a difficult time choosing a cheaper option that has the appearance of lower quality when making a decision they feel will affect the future quality of their life substantially. Pairing that with increasing pool of students made it easy to raise tuition. Moving forward there is going to continue to be a declining student base from its peak with millenials, the 2008 crisis plunged child birth rates and that group turns 18 in 2026. Peak enrollment is already behind us. It's possible the college debt crisis may be isolated to the millennial generation, and some relief would not be as burdensome and expensive going forward. And it may also be necessary to make college even more attractive in the future to increase participation in future generations.

CPS has many of the best schools of the state. It's a massive school system with varying quality.
  6. I hope burger kills it this year. Regardless of position, would be nice to have a big bat in system past eloy.
  7. Badler said 30 players are getting a 1 mill bonus. We wondered if the cap would lower the cost of players making more 300k people. Turns out it's more like salary cap leagues, the top players probably getting less, and the middle players gaining more. Interesting lesson for the mlb players.
  8. Me neither. Hector and Heyman may both end up being right. Wouldn't be surprised if it takes a day for people to understand the money implications of this deal.
  9. I totally agree that manny SHOULD make more, but one issue with him is Coors, but the rockies can actually pay for coors production. I think it isn not a longshot that arenado could be talking to rockies now on a deal that isn't far off manny's. I am not saying it's the likeliest, but it could be a legitimate concern that has led to additional waiting from Manny camp. This is all speculation, but I'd be nervous.
  10. But the rockies are both sentimental and generous, so it's possible.
  11. I've been thinking about the harper/machado dynamic but I wonder if Machado is especially sensitive to Arenado. It would be a terrible dynamic if an Arenado extension exceeds Manny's new contract right after he signs with Sox. Signing for less than him may be a bigger concern they have than Bryce.
  12. Prepare to hold a jockstrap for some reason BRYCE HARPER
  13. But, as Sharp mentioned, many shorter qbs were prematurely moved to other positions and were not given the same amount of opportunities as taller qbs. That is starting to change. The problem with rex wasn't just that he was small, he had small hands and had terrible judgment and poor accuracy. He'd have been bad at 6'4"
  14. I can't tell if it's media driven due to interest or boras driven but with harper specifically that camp has seemed to do a really good job of creating the appearance of momentum each time they meet with someone (also spreading out the meetings). But obviously, it hasn't changed the actual dynamic, they aren't signing a 2 year deal apparently.
  15. ...very disappointed. They should have plunged resources into this class after Robert.
  16. Right, I mean it's basically that the calculation for any other position beside quarterback would point you to baseball as best career choice (Samardjiza), but for QB it's actually the other way. Now if the dude was like Kris Bryant in college, it may be different, but he had a lot of development to do.
  17. sorry to beg but If anyone is linked to sox I'd be much appreciated.
  18. Bears, like every team in the NFL, can do quite a bit of maneuvering to lift their cap. I would not give up assets for Johnson however.
  19. I think the last few years teams have absolutely been shifting on the "CW" ideology on prototypical QBs and what's needed. Here's a good warren sharp thread The tweets above it are even better but that's a lot of work and I'm not @Sleepy Harold level yet
  20. But his guaranteed money from his (likely) first round deal would exceed that of his guaranteed money from baseball. And the likelihood of him getting a second, even backup, deal from football is greater than baseball. I can't think of a recent first round pick that didn't get additional contracts. Even RG3 did, adding to his money total. Plus RG3 got some very good sponsorship deals. Yeah actually even RGIII has made $30 mill in his career. I would put the likelihood of his earnings in the nfl being greater than football at a much higher percentage likelihood.
  21. He’s a very raw baseball player, he will almost certainly make more in NFL. Backup QBs still make around 8 mill per year.
