Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado

I get it, you prefer this open communication. I think you misunderstand the critique. People are saying if you weren’t prepared for what it took to get players, you shouldn’t have said they were. Same goes for Phillies owner. -

I don’t understand what is difficult to grasp that if a front office says things are going to be different this time and they are going to be aggressive for top free agents and then they do not sign them that people correctly identify that as a failure on front office who incorrectly assessed the market for their main targets. If they said they were not targeting them and didn’t land them after checking in, then they would need to show they did what they can to pull this core forward without outside help. But yes, judging front offices by their execution of plans they described is something many will do. -

Um yeah I guess it’s so stupid of people to expect execution from a front office on their second shot of trying to execute things? -

My hope is the org can create 3 WAR players internally, but 6 war players don’t come easy -

I’m a fan of the white Sox and my take isn’t that words are just words they signify the direction and action of the org and I can judge them on that. -

Getting an additional 5-6 WAR player enhances the rebuild and its only for money. Those players aren’t always available when you need one for just money. -

That quote indicates that these were not the focus of their offseason plan and rebuild. Everything they have indicated is this was a focus of the org to go after these players. And they failed. Now the org needs to have a hell of a year of player development to show they have more than one star in the making in their org. -

This too. I don’t know how it can be denied what Sox were doing, and many are rightly worried that this indicates these were actuallly a big part of their rebuild plans. I do think this offseason was a part of the pitch to JR as to why they should do the rebuild when they did. -

They didn’t say they would try, for two years when asked they did not hide that they would be aggressive, and Kenny saying this offseason would be different. There’s no denying the sentiment they were pushing. They easily could have put out the fires after this terrible year saying “while we will always monitor and seek special players when available, we are committed to building our our timetable and will not try to accelerate things prematurely.” -

The only way I will be placated is if the Sox announce they are committed to building the best player development org in the world, acquire some sports medicine start up and analytics business, say they are building special training facilities for players to use in North Carolina, and a hiring spree of front office officials from progressive franchises AND creating a scouting team and facility for some obscure country like Ghana. And they sign drew Pomeranz and Shelby Miller to one year deals. -

The free agents didn’t sink those rosters, player development and drafting/intl did. Also...Votto? -

Yeah, that makes sense, the 2b market is stacked if you only care about one year production. -

I mean if Dan Clark is blocked by Ken Rosenthal, how many other national guys block him? Maybe that’s the reason for silence. That plus it being 24 hours of nothing really does make me hopeful. i also just think Yankees love DiDi, and may think it’s easier to find upgrades at 3b than the plus manny brings over DiDi in production/attitude wildcard. OTOH DiDi is older, but Stopgap SS seems to have some options -

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/2016-17-top-50-mlb-free-agents-predictions.html Take your pick. EE was definition of elite hitter. I don’t know that any of those outfielders made a better team.

It wouldn’t have been that bad if not for injuries. Chisenhall obviously isn’t great defensively but he’s had good offense last two years just couldn’t stay healthy. Tribe wouldn’t know that going into 2017 when signing EE.

I will say this, this could also just be a perfect storm of it being the holidays and dan Clark not being big enough to respond to. Typically even a lower level guy making a claim like this would cause a huge stir. This has been incredibly muted considering it’s biggest story of offseason. I think holidays and him not being a tier big enough that their audience knows about it plays into it. -
Depends on what’s available. I’d rather keep getting .850 ops out of DH than try to improve center field from .700 to .740. Also black hole is pretty strong.

When the Sox are at a 90 win core I am fine with them spending above rate to squeeze additional wins onto the roster.

After 2013 the Sox absolutely said they were rebuilding on the fly and Hahns horrendous acquisitions to jump start it in 2015 after a promising 2014 are absolutely reasons to be very skeptical this group is capable of both stockpiling talent and also turning it into a World Series contender. -
Regardless, I’m not talking about encarnacion exclusively. Corey Dickerson, CJ Cron, Jose Martinez, maybe Sox are looking for their Jesus Aguilar but these guys keep getting shedded all over.
