  1. I also don't understand why people feel 300 over 10 years is reasonable when 300 over 6 is insane. Though it may poison pill trade talks if things go wrong. edit: and i say this because, come on, we won't really be that upset to miss out on years 33-37.
  2. I will say 7 puts them at age 33 which is where you would expect the big drop off. But the sox being that prescriptive about years instead of dollars would be infuriating* * I do not find this leak believable, though this is the first leak that i do believe is strategic (i.e. machado following/unfollowing yes network was not a thing)
  3. Me too, and i second ptatc's notion that this means things are actually getting closer.
  4. i feel like levine and guff would have same sources, and guff could have asked and they gave same info. Could be some dumb fun stuff like "we won't give an offer of more than 7 years...a contract on the other hand." *nods suggestingly*
  5. fwiw i don't buy it either but enjoy the 7 number coming out. Usually there is a round number or even number bias, going 7 years is great.
  6. I made a dedicated thread since that is the first white sox centric news definitively stated in quite a while and refers to both players. Thanks, me
  7. re: #2, the only part about that i'd object to is you have the nats that were essentially discounted at the beginning as being unable to meet the price, along with their public offering of 10 / 300 (more like 280 with 20 deferred). Going back to them says that the market was not substantially beyond that. So I think at very least it's nice for harper to have this 10/300 floor, but if he was hoping for a massive payday beyond that it's clear it didn't exist.
  8. I guess. But if the main competition is nats, then feels like sox again should be highest bidder.
  9. https://www.mlb.com/news/10-prospects-who-drove-the-ball-best-in-2018/c-302274922?tid=151437456 Not sure about their analysis here, but hey it's the offseason, and both Rivera and Jimenez showed up in the top 20 of all minor leaguers in percentage of hits via line drive or fly out.
  10. I think this is spot on, but I also think they love Didi and the Yankees have been pretty damn sentimental about re-signing players
  11. I don't think he should get sympathy. I think it's just hard now knowing what to discount on its face, because accurate information keeps getting soaked up by some shameless people. I think the main grain of salt aside from his attention seeking is that he only had one second hand source that he put 100% guarantee of being true.
  12. The thing about Clark's tweet was how much certainty he was throwing behind one second hand source. That is the difference between rosenthals/shermans/etc, who either get high up sources but also often get confirmation from multiple. On flip side, it often means by time you get the info it's darn near finished. Info like clark's can appear way before anything is finalized, and end up false due to changing in circumstances or false due to the source relaying the information with more certainty or lack of context than it requires. But, Clark may end up being right despite wrong info, or wrong despite right info, or just got cautious info and blew it up way out of proportion because he's a dip, but anyway, this is a message board and if you didn't come here for rumors, you'll get them anyway.
  13. I don't know that it's frugality. The production from players over 30 has crashed compared to before. Getting the the top free agent isn't just bad because money but because it may not get you the production you expect. This guy does give Cashman ample resources in analytics and scouting.
  14. I think old yankees would trade Andujar but I think Cashman has full reigns without a pushy owner, and knows how valuable that cheap offensive production is. They can find a spot to minimize his issues in field or 1b/dh him, and could still trade for a pitcher without him. Including Andujar blows away any other teams offers, so they could compete without him.
  15. He's right the penalty and college draftees made the crunch lighter than it should have been, but it was still very much there in Az last year. They brought over nearly their entire 2016 intl class and only half of them were getting consistent play time.
  16. Also that Passan bit on them having tried to get Profar. Clearly Yanks aren't going to live and die by getting Machado. Sox should be able to convincingly outbid them and I hope they do otherwise it's a huge opportunity lost, especially with how dogmatic yankees have been about contract length (correctly)
  17. @Sleepy Harold is as usual way better at getting the tweet threads than me. Props sir!
  18. Read this whole thread. SHerman is a great reporter, he is not talking as if Machado is anywhere like a done deal. But on the other hand, is he saying gleybar torres should back up tulo? Come on dude. edit, sorry here is the money tweets
  19. I also missed that the Yanks tried to get Profar. Interesting.
  20. Nice to see they are still negotiating. Yankees/Dodgers seem to be in enviable seat where they can just see what others offer and figure out what gets them close enough to sign since they appear to be preferred destinations. I hope sox make it as uncomfortable as possible.
  21. Worst case scenario definitely manny to yanks, Andujar packaged to Indians for Kluber.
