The only other thing though would be a Mel Tucker situation, which may not be a criminal investigation but still may end up with AN investigation of some bad behavior.

yeah, though I would say some of this is just what annoys me about nfl dialogue. All offseason you'd hear people talk about how fields needs to improve his passing and stay in the pocket more so he can stay healthy. And then they hear the coaching staff is trying to get him to stay in pocket more and its like "LOL WHAT MORONS THEY SHOULD JUST RUN HIM". Fields can be better than this and needs to play more instinctively. But some teams will take away his running and he has to make them pay early

Salvy Perez Trade Rumors
but that is because fangraphs values a skill that literally none of us give a s%*# about anymore, clearly. Nobody has cared at all about grandals framing since rodon. offensively, i would take salvador's year any day over what grandal did.

Salvy Perez Trade Rumors
Those are all options but you are also, likely, bringing in a lot of young pitchers over the next 2 years and may not want them to be dealing with two inexperienced catchers. but i don't know. Maybe there is an extremely dumb trade of moncada to KCR, where they want to move maikel garcia up the middle to 2nd or something. I know they have cayden wallace but maybe. we have a lot of untradeable guys people want to move on from. Those aren't going to be fun trades. Perez + for Moncada

However, I also ...am skeptical of following steve's info (good as it has been in the past!)

I mean I feel like we knew nothing would change when Getz was hired not that we might trade for perez.

Josh Barfield expected to be asst. GM; Brian Bannister and Gene Watson coming as well
I think he cleared the low bar of "performed the job at an org different from the white sox". I *do* like the DIamondbacks though and how they have built on the fly seemingly thru just draft picks and smart trades and patience. Tough, as we've seen, to have so many young players and pitchers and it mix right. How much is Josh Barfield a part of that? no idea. But I know he saw a different org operate and so he may as well be Branch Rickey as JR would say.

maybe i'm a softee, but I think it's ok to not comment until there is alignment on next steps (including who will replace) given the media was about to be in locker room/etc and unleash everything on the players. That's the internal org shill part of me.

at first saw that and thought it was dumb twitter inability to know who is real or not...but now seems that this is on to something. The rumors are gross but not gonna share any of it until we get some confirmation.

I think people too quickly shift to "it's obvious Fields can't throw the ball". I didn't think that was obvious last year, I thought he did just have a mixture of bad talent, new system, bad oline. Last year it felt like when he had time he was able to find a deep route or take off for a 60 yard run. While it shouldn't veer so dramatically back to "never run", I think there were probably some option plays that end up creating that,a nd they may very well have removed draws from the playbook outside the goal line where they wanted him to stay healthy this year. But things that went down as "runs" last year were called passes. We've seen Fields against the wall before and he adjusted. I think the coaching staff, judging by the sloppiness we've seen, is not good. But that they are overcommunicating is also a sign that they don't trust him ...but also that they are trying to help him. Now he's been clear it isn't helping. He's ok not being brady. Whatever. It is up to him to go show out what his floor is and if that is a viable QB.

I don't think that is the Reinsdorf method. The small market approaches include actually building a farm and scouting network. I think Henry hamstrung Bloom unfairly. I think he will get another crack at things eventually, a la Cherington, if these prospects move forward and make an impact.

Salvy Perez Trade Rumors
yeah, however we do have now a collection of young catchers that will need to make sequencing, pitcher management, and overall intangibles a part of their package if they want to be long term major leaguers so it's probably not the worst mentorship we've ever had. Lord knows we ain't teaching catching overall so maybe we do just have a player teacher.

Salvy Perez Trade Rumors
This has been broken record stuff, but like, I just don't see why this is that big of a deal? I don't see talent going out being impactful, I don't see the salary coming back to be the full amt. I don't think Salvy will make this team a contender, but who cares. If he was that big of a help to a young pitching staff, well we see the limits of that in KC. Well, I guess I should backtrack. In deals the sox have telegraphed for a year plus, we have paid embarrassing sums. But otherwise I don't think this is the worst thing we'll do this offseason.

The Red Sox are going to yo yo constantly between this Cherington / Dombrowski yin Yang. Complain and tear each version down, meanwhile both versions are better than sox can throw out.

Yeah man. This is why the Sox and Rockies have been killing it while senseless nerds like the Astros, Rays and Orioles have been in the basement.
