  1. Yes, I agree. He was probably thrilled about the execution of Robin Venturas letting go, where they could just not renew his contract. He's probably extremely annoyed at the thought of firing and paying out someone.
  2. I didn't do a good enough job reading but Sara Goodrum the farm director was hired by Click from the Brewers. So, probably shouldn't give credit for Framber. Nonetheless, Brewers/Astros seems a good experience to see two orgs much better at pitching development than us (to say the least)
  3. I would recommend Getz sniff around here. https://theathletic.com/4945317/2023/10/09/astros-split-assistant-gm-bill-firkus/ Dana Brown coming from the Braves is not just going to take over the same operation, so it makes sense. It should be a great opportunity to steal people from an org that has done an incredible job developing pitching, especially the pitchers that Marco Paddy apparently likes (Framber Valdez was an 18 year old signing for cheap, not 16 which is bad per JR) Now...why would you join chris getz and the white sox? Lol I don't know.
  4. I just don't believe it. If JR really hated him I can't believe he'd be here. I truly think that outside 2005, the 2015 royals were probably JR's ideal version of baseball and I think Pedro is both a kiss-ass and also telling JR what he wants to hear: - Prospects are risky - Old vets like Andrus are great - Primadonna high played players are bad - Bullpen is important and where you should spend your money, not your starters It's like just a beautiful story he can put together for Jerry.
  5. I don't know, he's had some really bad accuracy games. I thought he was horrendous in the Bucs game. That 3rd preseason game he was really off too.
  6. I agree that the 49ers are incredible. But come on, they just shipped out their 3rd overall pick they gave up the world for to keep Purdy/Darnold. QB play does matter. They also happen to have the single greatest offensive mind in the league. Yes, you definitely need tons of talent, but they've had tons of talent for multiple years now and aren't 3 time world champions because of the QB position.
  7. I don't think you don't think that man
  8. I think it's just that Jerry likes Pedro.
  9. I guess my same response is looking at this roster I could easily see a 2025 roster with like 70% turnover so Grifol's cosplay is fine. Bannister adding to the pitching development should help develop the nastrini's, etc. I wouldn't keep Grifol but the bigger impact is going to be made off the mlb roster so if they put more focus there, i'll take it. Basically bruce bochy being hired with little to no changes to our PD/Scouting in the minors is worse than keeping Grifol with wholesale changes on that side. But obviously because it is the white sox, no, we cannot have both. Never can do the normal things winning teams do.
  10. For me who is managing the dead-in-the-water team in 2024 is the least consequential hire. Getting a real operation in place for the minors/draft/scouting is going to be way more important to winning.
  11. Sounds like Andy Barkett is out too. Some of these guys may turn out to be part of strong orgs, we don’t know. But kudos to Getz so far for recognizing a house cleaning was due for even if it means we still have grifol/getz
  12. He did that. i honestly am shocked how good Brady cook is. Seems obvious that like maybe a shoulder injury may have hurt him last year, but never thought we had a guy like this.
  13. Well we are on a #questfor74wins so I think we need him
  14. Fields has been facing bad defenses, BUT he's also been beating them via the air which is what is interesting.
  15. I think my biggest concern with Justin is that when the game starts turning against him (i.e. not that bears are losing, but he's playing bad) that it turns him worse. His mechanics change, he gets even more risk averse and therefore becomes more risky as he telegraphs everything. WHen things are rolling, he rolls. If we are 1-1, I still think you trade fields. But if he really does keep throwing like the last two games, and showing he can handle zone looks, then you trade that and just load up.
  16. I will say that a reminder to myself last night was how little I remembered of the first four games last year. And I say that just because I was pretty excited about this secondary. And I certainly underrated how young that group is in actual age and experience. But probably the best part about the game last night defensively imo was STroman and Smith. I think in terms of the 5 sacks, Washington is just absolutely the worst oline in the league imo. I still think they looked trash. But the coverage I think can improve with both health and experience.
  17. I don't actually see a difference and no competent org is going to send him to the minors.
  18. I think him consistently going to Moore even as they were trying to jump the route, and still trusting to make the throw and give moore a chance was hopefully a big thing. I still don't know with him if he doesn't "see it" or if he doesn't trust it. Seems like he's starting to trust it more and if that's the case maybe he even can anticipate better.
  19. nice to see from Ramos.
  20. I want the next ownership group to not act like a 5 year 50 million deal is some insurmountable obstacle to building a team. You can just trade it.
  21. Im not trying to overtly defend Getsy but more complain about how I hate nfl discourse. What was wrong with the bears offense was supposedly that they were acting like fields should be Peyton manning and not running him. Well, he’s not running much more and instead has been putting together much better passing games. The runs just aren’t there this year for big gains. Their training camps have continued to miss what works for the team, but I do think a large part of the improvement is just Justin and the receivers executing better.
  22. That was interesting.
  23. @Eminor3rd need thoughts thnks.
  24. I love Colorado, but I think his operation works phenomenal as a college program and would lose some edge in the pros. I do like Shadeur but his windup is kinda funky and sometimes his lack of arm strength shows. Meanwhile Williams...is just wow. I feel like a lot of the criticism I see of him is just hating on someone universally praised out of reaction. This QB class is crazy though. Williams, Maye, McCarthy, Sanders, Penix, Nix, Leonard, Pratt, Ewers...just a lot of really experienced QBs with different profiles.
  25. As I've gotten older, I hope I'm now capable of not lying to myself. I really hoped Colas could be the answer this year, and got defensive when Keith Law was shocked when sox said he'd be their starting right fielder saying his approach was nowhere near ready. Sure enough, he had like a negative wRC+ when he came up. I think that means the umpires started calling 2 outs every time he came up because he was so bad we all wanted the games to end.
