Reds sign Jeimer Candelario to $45M/3 year deal

Featured Replies

Considering the Reds have De La Cruz, Marte, Encarnacion-Strand, McLain, India, and Barrero - you have to imagine someone is getting dangled as a trade piece.

Obvious candidate is India, but still feels worth noting.

Jeimar Candelario definitely wins the award for "dude who is way better than you expect every time you look it up" but you can see by the contract how skeptical everyone is about it.

And Steer even. Though I think he is moving to the OF. India probably gets traded somewhere too.

TL;DR - no reason to make this signing unless the Reds are trading some of them

Just realized Arroyo also wasn't named. Man, so deep.

Insert 'but why' .gif here.

I guess we overpaid for Moncada... 17.8m this year, 24.8m next year.

MLB contracts starting to feel like NBA contracts, "he got paid what?"

Remember that the next time an owner claims "hardship" or 'financial issues" LOL

Despite the ability to stay on the field.

Wow he only got 45 dollars for three years seems low

Candelario is one year removed from being terrible. I can see why teams would be reluctant to give him a ton of money.

Still owed $29-54 million over the next two years...but 98% $24 and buyout of $5million if not traded at DDL this year.  Would have to hit a minimum of 725-750 with GG defense.

Reds have way too many infielders unless 2-3 are changing to outfielders.  Steer can, obviously.

And an opening at first base for Votto...where Steer can also go.

Jonathan India and Nick Senzel two of the more obvious odd men out...will try to convince Getzy they have his second baseman of the future on their roster.

If you go and look at similarity scores for Yoan on Baseball Reference, Candelario is 2nd on the list. Candelario has actually been more productive since 2019, which for a player with the prospect pedigree of Moncada, is pretty sad.

Yoan's managed to make Byron Buxton look like less of a disappointment, somehow.

Didn’t Senzel get released?

He signed with the Nationals yesterday

Straight up swap for Candelario.  I actually think he has a chance to be good for the Nats Cincy jerked him around his entire career. Leave him in one spot defensively and give him some AB’s he might surprise.

The standard of living in Cincinnati is pretty low so he'll be fine.

Missed that...not really surprising, the White Sox have their own version already in Colas.
