Another day, another game where DSL only scores 1 run or less. Jose Rodriguez 1-2, BB Yordi Rosario 6 IP and 8 ks.
-
I mean I wouldn't put him in a top 30 unless he starts doing it in hi-A, but, he's certainly one of the more interesting ones in GF now. More interesting than when Anthony Villa was shoving at age 24 last year.
-
No kidding, glad to see the kid put himself on the map like that. I definitely kinda removed him from my watch list after 2 years of injuries.
-
out of curiosity what is the rational for the sox always holding off playing J2 signings until the next year?
-
Just going off player type, much prefer the tiquan forbes trades to the Cordell/Gillaspie trades. Raw, 18/19, plus tool, haven't put it together. That's my profile.
-
Their pitching is k'ing way more guys than last year at least. But yeah. Garbage. Jose Rodriguez does not strike, so that's something. Similar to how Mieses/Comas were last year.
-
Yeah I would never want to be in a position where I'm dealing with orioles. The good news is I doubt anyone will for quite a few years once britton/machado are gone.
-
He had a press conference today. I'm sure trib/sun times should have some of it. Or look for KC johnson's twitter feed.

I say good for Toronto. They've been good for a while, but this is a swing for the fences that's worth it. It may only be marginal addition, but I think on the trajectory they were on, it's worth trying to go bold for the next step. Just not a trade you typically see.

This happens in mlb all the time, mlb just has a system that sees NTCs easier to attain.

Madrigal doing his best seth beer impression.

that phillies deal sounds fake.

There was a good podcast with Kiley talking about this with Carson Cistulli. Teams would have tryouts (other scouts could come), the handlers would bring a bunch of age appropriate guys but also try and bring some of the older guys to see. At them, sometimes the hosting team would have their trackman up (others did not have access to), and just immediately remove them from mound so others couldn't sign them.
-
Gonna guess dude showed up at a tryout, had interesting trackman data, signs for 10k. These 19 year olds sign randomly and out of nowhere, are typically late bloomers, but some do make bigs and sometimes quickly. We'll see if he moves to find out if he's actually good.

If you are a white sox fan holding out hope, not sure you could pick a better destination than the dodgers where he is most likely a mercinary.

But I'm worried about the awkward fit not just being bad in this scenario, but creating tension and creating a circus (which has happened under Fred a bit too much). If the defense is so exploitable, Fred may push one of Lavine or Parker to the 2nd unit, which could create some issues (see milwaukee last year). OR Lavine continues with tunnel vision play on a lineup that now has playmakers. OR Bobby portis is just pissed in general.
-
The board was excited when we got a scout from the houston astros but I don't remember much info on him either. WIth their shedding of scouts last year I expected they were "traditional" scouts. That he has instead been hired for helping analyze and distribute the trackman data makes me feel excited. And this is just building on the additional reporting from Fegan on how the birmingham pitchers have started to include trackman insights (Adams especially, now in AAA)

I like Kevin O'Connor, but this is an argument why parker in isolation is a fine offensive player and fit but then yadda yadda's the big issue (aside from playing the 3), which is Lavine. I think the strategy from KOCs point of view that it throws out a bunch of talent on the court in a way that preserves lottery status is probably right, but I am not sure that's exactly what the bulls are thinking.

has DSL had a run in the last week?

Even though the year 2 option softened the blow, I still just can't get over that 2 years after the bulls put together one of the most obviously flawed, poorly constructed units with FA pieces (Surrounding Butler with two clog the lane, heavy usage players in Wade/Rondo), they go right back to the well. The bulls ended the offseason by saying they were building around Markannen. A stretch four with surprising athleticism that is still developing on defense. So what's the plan to help develop those skills? Apparently surrounding him with 2 high-usage players, one that has already shown does not play particularly nicely with Markannen, who are both horrendous defensively. This maybe could have made more sense if they had not drafted WCJ and felt more comfortable playing Markannen at the 5, Parker at 4, and maybe drafted a kevin knox at the 3 whose athleticism hopefully plays up into defense. Instead with this Dunn, Lavine, Parker, Lauri, WCJ, even if Lauri and WCJ are adequate to slightly bad when defending on the perimeter (which i think is reasonable for big men, not be hugely exploited but not necessarily good), teams will have 4 plus matchups that can be created on the switch. I just don't get it. Will they really have a better understanding of how to use WCJ and Markannen after this year? I'm not sure this advanced anything. If Parker plays great, he's still going to be a two-time injured player whom you should be cautious to build around.

I stand corrected, year 2 is a team option. I’m cool with this then. https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1018170533299404800

Reminds me of your reaction to signing wade and rondo
-
It’s possible they could non guarantee year 2 but it’s unlikely that is happening.

And I’m not against improving club and making playoffs if it just happens. But if we were going to make a splash in FA I’d rather we had targeted players like Capela and Smart, whose value I only see growing in better markets, and are tone setters for a young team.
