He may have received some pretty good money from the Japanese team too.
-
lol yes this is basically what he said.

Hey are there any swing folks here that could tell me things about this swing
-
A massive day for Forbes now at 4-4 with a 2b. Basabe 2-3 as well.
-
I probably don’t talk about Forbes enough. Repeating the level, but he’s upped his power by a lot while cutting his k rate. Near .300 now, has to have checked every box this year. If he improves power through Birmingham he’ll be really interesting. I remember him being a really athletic graded player, nice to have in our system.

Not sure need is the right word but I think having some good more stable SP would help our better prospects develop. I think one of the reasons for our errors is guys constantly pressing knowing the pitchers need everything they can get. but this is all just intangible stuff. I like Morton/Keuchel as fits with our staff and would be fine signing them.
-
Neither of those things are important.
-
This forums tendency to hold it against our prospects when they perform poorly as if it’s to spite them is the weirdest thing.
-
This didn’t age well.
-
I don’t mind adding market rate SP at all. Where I think sox can have good cost savings is if they can make an organic bullpen.
-
False choice!
-
Yep. Stockpile it, but also progressing lots of young pitching at once sucks to watch.
-
Jose Rodriguez 1-4, Samil Polanco 2-4. Polanco is 18, has a low k rate, and little power. He's now 1 of 2 players I find interesting in DSL. Feels like Jeereck Francess never plays (however you spell it.)
-
I would say that Hahn has definitely fanned flames on a big 2018-19 offseason. He's never absolute, but he's absolutely played into the fan excitement about Machado, etc.
-
yeah. Broken record from me at this point, but this time last year the phillies were going through same crisis. Everything seemed to be regressing. Then Rhys show came in august and they had a nice ending, signed Arrietta, their pitchers got healthier and it's all good. (They also replaced their manager).
-
I'd also say that I'm in favor of the sox paying big for pitching and I like Keuchel as a fit with our org, also like morton on a 2 year deal. I'm fine with our pitchers learning in AAA a la the Rays and forcing their hand to be up. Especially considering most of our pitchers problems are with control.

Madrigal day.

Could just mean going some short term deals for talent rather than getting the one big fish. Could then go after Arenado the next year. Lots of answers to shifting the outlook another year. Like I've said though, the downside to people cheering being as bad as possible this year is it makes the team that much less attractive. Need to have a strong second half if there's any hope. But, it was a risk to the keeping spots open for players to prove it. Few, if any, did. And so it's unlikely harper is gonna be like, yeah!, they are a Harper away! And if you want them to spend that many no matter the talent...I disagree.

I think that "may not be 2020 or even 2021" was editorializing but main point may be this fa period sox may not be that active. Could be like Braves of last year, who did some signings to soften the blow but didn't compromise the rebuild.

KW is criticized for when he speaks out of line and undercuts his GM or manager, as well as for when he supports them and underscores the direction the team is going in, got it.
-
That was a good article of KW saying all the right things.
-
That's interesting. Do we know yet if sox have him as a 3b or an OF?

Wow, crazy that Bush signed. Though tbh if I had to pick between Martin and Bush I"d have picked Martin. Exciting though, with him being a Michigan prospect, there may be a bit of underscouting to him. Love when plus bat speed is in the equation, if he can work through what has been called an unorthodox swing from BA, there may be tremendous value here. edit: redundancy

I'm curious how people define what is good value for a player like Yolmer vs. scraps. It's easy for me when we have a top player going to the market, I want top 50 prospects. And for a good player/good contract, I want a top 100. But for players like Yolmer, as a fan, I have no idea what he would get back. My hunch is that, unlike relievers at the deadline, teams would often view a decent hitting versatile infielder as a nice to have, but not a need to have. For that I don't see the return being that good, or little leverage. For me, I can only judge a return based on player type. It wasn't my favorite strategy last year, but I at least understood the using of assets to give ML-ready, slightly below average but blocked prospects such as gillaspie and cordell time in ML to see if there's something there. With 3.5 years control left and still young, Sanchez is already basically that. Instead I'd prefer younger players with some elite tools. Though unlikely they ever make an impact as good as Yolmer Brewers example, I would have trouble saying we got scraps if we acquired position players such as Je'Von Ward and Carlos Rodriguez. I'd err on the same side for pitching, but I think I'd also make the case for going after like Medeiros and Zack Brown, players with success in AA but profiles that say they are more likely bullpen. Get them here where we have more leeway to grow them as starters. Anyway point is these are backend top 30 guys from Brewers. Is that scraps? I don't know. I'd feel fine not trading sanchez for some of them, but I'd also understood if they were.

I sometimes listen to mully and hanley on drive to gym in morning or while i'm making breakfast. I realize it's hard for these guys who are up at 3am to keep up with stuff that happened sometimes late the night before. But even so, just find it to be so boring. So many stories about "oh man, remember when we were in new orleans and we went to a bar and oh the drinks were Tall and what we drank like I was drinking all night and we would just go the next bar and the drinks were bigger! oh that was fun"
