QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) I agree. If the Sox didn't pick up an option, there might not be a US Cellular the next day. Ya, it's 100 percent that his option is picked up.

Happy bday zoom.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) I think MB will stay in Chicago for the rest of his career. In fact I think KW will do anything it takes to keep him. The only way he'd leave is if he wants to pitch somewhere else. I think he loves Chicago and the fans and we're building a winning team with pitching. He is the cornerstone of that. Money won't be an issue IMO, but I know I was talking with Mike (ss2k6) at Soxfest and we both agreed that Buehrle would probably get around 5 years and upwards of 70 million on the open market. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we have continued success for the Sox to pay Buehrle around 13/14 mil a season. He may not be worth that much as a pitcher, but since many view him as the ace and face of the franchise, he's worth it. I was talking to someone(don't remember who) and I told that person that I believe Mark will get the sox biggest offer ever for a pitcher.

QUOTE(So ILL @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) Every time Buehrle pitches, Mike Shannon gives inning by inning updates on the radio. The Cards fans love their own. Welcome to the board. Great avy, you at siu?

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) The Sox were 11th in the AL (24th overall) in OBP (.322) last year. That's wretched. Good thing they had some power. And 9th in runs. Certainly nothing to be proud of but I don't think they qualify as one of the worst offenses in baseball last year, low obp or not.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) but barely, and it was clear that the White Sox offense last year was one of the worst in the league. One of the worst among contenders, not one of the worst in baseball.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) ERA-wise, yes, but not win-wise. Hopefully this pastes correctly. I dont know. Hermanson started losing his stuff around this time, Pods got hurt, Buehrle lost his changeup, Crede got hurt, Blum became a starter. This was a pretty crazy time period for the champs last year. I still feel that Buehrle sets the tone, and the rest follow suit. hopefully Im right I'm not disagreeing on the Buehrle part, just saying that overall that iirc the era was pretty solid in August. It was mentioned a lot last year that the starters have a sort of good rivalry where they all want to out pitch each other, which obviously starts with Mark.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Neal Cotts look like shells of there 2005 selves in the early-going He does? Neal has looked absolutely fine to me.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) This is what happens with the starting pitching staff. Its just my observation, but Buehrle sets the bar, and the rest follow suit. I dont understand it, but I swear that everytime Buehrle has a good start, the rest of the staff mimics him. It seemed to happen a lot last year too. When Buehrle "lost" his changeup late in the year last year, the Sox started skidding big time and the only pitcher who could stop the bleeding was Jose. We all blamed it on Pods being injured, but I thought the pitching was losing its edge as well. Like I said, just my observation. It might have seemed that way but I believe August was one of the better months for the pitching staff era wise.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) He had one at 99, but in general his FB looked good and that hook that he got Guillen to ground to Paulie may have been the best hook he's thrown all year. After falling behind 2-0 to Shelton, Jenks threw almost all strikes (if not all strikes) and was unhittable. Looked really good. Garcia pitched a lot better (his velocity was back where it should be in the 93-94 range from time to time), Bmac was great, Crede looked fantastic again (in the field and with that HR), Konerko looked good today and Thome hit another BOMB. Pods looked god awful at the plate and in the field. If Bobby is going to throw strikes 96 is enough even though he's going to throw harder. I don't care how hard he's throwing if he's throwing strikes and dropping that nasty hook, he does that and he's be absolutely fine.

Obviously it's to early to early to make this comparison but I definitely think we made the right choice. Thome is going to hit 40-45 homers for us this year, the guy is just a beast and has literally carried the team to our 2 wins so far.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Who the hell thinks Aaron Rowand is on steroids?! There are definitely some on here who believes he was, I am not one of them.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) It would do it to alot fans, me included. For me, Buehrle is the White Sox. He has been the anchor of the organization for 5+ years, and is a CLASS ACT. There isnt a more reliable pitcher in the game today, and he has done nothing but good things for the team and city. It would be a shame if the Sox let Mark slip away. We've lost a lot of big time players the last few years, losing Mark would be by far the hardest player to lose. It would absolutely kill me.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) I think this would make Aboz cry. It'd make me cry.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) What would be the point of sitting Podsednik? He cant hit the ball now, why would we sit him? How would it help? Pods missed alot of time during ST, and he needs to work himself out of this slump by getting his hacks at the plate. Lets just hope it doesnt take much longer.... Bingo. Sitting pods out would be the worst thing we can do.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Addy, you should know that the Sox essentially won the division last year in April. If not for the Sox amazingly hot start, there isn't a chance in hell they win 99 games, the AL Central, or the World Series. Ok, but we also had a horrible month of August so you're going to have a bad stretch once and a while and hell this doesn't even count as a bad stretch yet so no point to even talk about that yet.

I think the Tigers right now are exactly what we need to wake up. Get the team that isn't as good as they're playing but have the nice record so far so our guys will get up for the games. I say we win at least 2 of 3, maybe sweep if we can get to Bonderman tomorrow(it's going to be all on our o, freddy is going to pitch well).

Florida sophomores to return for at least one year

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) Noah is listed as 6'11 and can score. I believe your thinking of Tyrus Thomas. No, he was being sarcastic since we don't have an inside scoring presence. -
The Tigers will be safely in 4th place by the time the all star break comes around.

Well, there is some type of conspiracy in Carbondale to not let me watch sox games. Yesterday my mlb.tv wouldn't work and today wgn was out So, I had to watch the damn thing on gameday and right when sweeney came up I said to a friend "this game is going to be at least tied." I didn't see the pitch obviously but Mike is just unbelievable against us.

I'm pretty sure Noah and Brewer are staying, the only one that I'm torn on is Horford.
