Derek Lee signs extention
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) I'd personally take Lee over Konerko. That's not to say I don't like PK, I just think the Lee is the better overall player. I think you're short-changing Lee's pre-2005 years a little bit. He's always been a pretty damn good hitter, especially his 2002 and '03 seasons (131 and 135 OPS+s in those two years). What I guess I'm saying is, I don't know how one can be a fan of the Konerko contract while disliking the Lee contract. They're very similar contracts, other than the full NTC in D-Lee's. I think Derrek Lee, though, is the better player (IMO), and I think the contract is reasonable. Not a bargain, but not grossly overpaying either. Ya, give me DLee over Paul as well. Nothing against PK.

Dmitri last year
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) I wouldnt say that.... Bonderman and Verlander are both absolute filthy. Rogers has shown he can still pitch and being out of the Texas heat should only help. Maroth is a decent pitcher good guy for back of the rotation. Robertson sucks but besides that yeah. Bonderman and Verlander each have great arms, that means nothing at this point. Bonderman killed us but he was very, very average last year as a whole cause he got rocked in the 2nd half of the year. While I think Verlander is going to be a star eventually it's not going to be this year. Rogers is solid but I don't know what to expect out of him as he seemed to wear down last year and also got his ass kicked down the stretch. Maroth is also ok at best maybe a little below average. Robertson is just bad. Their rotation overall is not good at all. I dont even know what to make of their bullpen as they have good arms in there but they also have senior citizens who are currently injured. Overall their pitching is very meh and while I love their lineup as individuals I am not sold on them as a unit. This Tigers team will soon be where they always are...4th place.

Player Comparison Game
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) These players, keep in mind, are basically the exact same age (born 10 days apart in the same year). Also, both are listed as left fielders: Player A: .279/.374/.380 SLG 89 SB, 25 CS (78%) 303 G 1044 AB Player B: .276/.342/.381 SLG 172 SB 46 CS (79%) 461 G 1753 AB Player A is Ryan Freel and Player B is Scott Podsednik. The only noticeable differences are Pods has had more PT and is a lefty and Freel walks a lot more, is a much better defender, and plays a lot more positions As much as I love Pods....he's a lot like Freel, a really fast utility player. Pods will improve and get his hits as long as he stays healthy, but I think we need to put in perspective just how good Pods actually is. How about we put into perspective how important scott is to this team by posting the teams record without him last season? Stats aren't everything but Pods certainly meant a s***load to this team last year and will again this year when he gets on track.

Derek Lee signs extention
Good deal for the Cubs. DLee is a star and he could have definitely got more in the open market.

Can we step back from the edge now?
No.

Buehrle and Cardinals
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) I agree. If the Sox didn't pick up an option, there might not be a US Cellular the next day. Ya, it's 100 percent that his option is picked up.

Buehrle and Cardinals
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) I think MB will stay in Chicago for the rest of his career. In fact I think KW will do anything it takes to keep him. The only way he'd leave is if he wants to pitch somewhere else. I think he loves Chicago and the fans and we're building a winning team with pitching. He is the cornerstone of that. Money won't be an issue IMO, but I know I was talking with Mike (ss2k6) at Soxfest and we both agreed that Buehrle would probably get around 5 years and upwards of 70 million on the open market. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we have continued success for the Sox to pay Buehrle around 13/14 mil a season. He may not be worth that much as a pitcher, but since many view him as the ace and face of the franchise, he's worth it. I was talking to someone(don't remember who) and I told that person that I believe Mark will get the sox biggest offer ever for a pitcher.

Blow this team up!
QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) The Sox were 11th in the AL (24th overall) in OBP (.322) last year. That's wretched. Good thing they had some power. And 9th in runs. Certainly nothing to be proud of but I don't think they qualify as one of the worst offenses in baseball last year, low obp or not.

Blow this team up!
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) but barely, and it was clear that the White Sox offense last year was one of the worst in the league. One of the worst among contenders, not one of the worst in baseball.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) ERA-wise, yes, but not win-wise. Hopefully this pastes correctly. I dont know. Hermanson started losing his stuff around this time, Pods got hurt, Buehrle lost his changeup, Crede got hurt, Blum became a starter. This was a pretty crazy time period for the champs last year. I still feel that Buehrle sets the tone, and the rest follow suit. hopefully Im right I'm not disagreeing on the Buehrle part, just saying that overall that iirc the era was pretty solid in August. It was mentioned a lot last year that the starters have a sort of good rivalry where they all want to out pitch each other, which obviously starts with Mark.

4/10 Game Notes

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) This is what happens with the starting pitching staff. Its just my observation, but Buehrle sets the bar, and the rest follow suit. I dont understand it, but I swear that everytime Buehrle has a good start, the rest of the staff mimics him. It seemed to happen a lot last year too. When Buehrle "lost" his changeup late in the year last year, the Sox started skidding big time and the only pitcher who could stop the bleeding was Jose. We all blamed it on Pods being injured, but I thought the pitching was losing its edge as well. Like I said, just my observation. It might have seemed that way but I believe August was one of the better months for the pitching staff era wise.

April 10: White Sox @ Tigers Game Thread
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) He had one at 99, but in general his FB looked good and that hook that he got Guillen to ground to Paulie may have been the best hook he's thrown all year. After falling behind 2-0 to Shelton, Jenks threw almost all strikes (if not all strikes) and was unhittable. Looked really good. Garcia pitched a lot better (his velocity was back where it should be in the 93-94 range from time to time), Bmac was great, Crede looked fantastic again (in the field and with that HR), Konerko looked good today and Thome hit another BOMB. Pods looked god awful at the plate and in the field. If Bobby is going to throw strikes 96 is enough even though he's going to throw harder. I don't care how hard he's throwing if he's throwing strikes and dropping that nasty hook, he does that and he's be absolutely fine.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
- Thome vs Big Frank
Obviously it's to early to early to make this comparison but I definitely think we made the right choice. Thome is going to hit 40-45 homers for us this year, the guy is just a beast and has literally carried the team to our 2 wins so far.- Eric Gagne
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Who the hell thinks Aaron Rowand is on steroids?! There are definitely some on here who believes he was, I am not one of them.- Buehrle and Cardinals
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) It would do it to alot fans, me included. For me, Buehrle is the White Sox. He has been the anchor of the organization for 5+ years, and is a CLASS ACT. There isnt a more reliable pitcher in the game today, and he has done nothing but good things for the team and city. It would be a shame if the Sox let Mark slip away. We've lost a lot of big time players the last few years, losing Mark would be by far the hardest player to lose. It would absolutely kill me.- Buehrle and Cardinals
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) I think this would make Aboz cry. It'd make me cry.- Scotty Pods????
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) What would be the point of sitting Podsednik? He cant hit the ball now, why would we sit him? How would it help? Pods missed alot of time during ST, and he needs to work himself out of this slump by getting his hacks at the plate. Lets just hope it doesnt take much longer.... Bingo. Sitting pods out would be the worst thing we can do. - Thome vs Big Frank
