  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) Pwned!?
  2. Boone Logan.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) How is it there can be posters here with thousands of posts and I don't recognize the name? Where the hell have they been posting? Which posters do you speak of?
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Who actively worked to PREVENT drug testing... unlike Bud Selig. Bingo. Fehr and Orza are at fault for the lack of a drug testing policy for so many years.
  5. QUOTE(ZeroHour @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Let's check. I think my last post was sometime during the playoffs, and before that was sometime last April.....not that anyone, even myself, keeps track. I come back to ST because my baseball addiction is back and better than ever. Not to beat dead horses, but Ill throw in a few kicks. For starters, if you think a city being "over-soxed" or, god-forbid, becoming a "Sox town" is a BAD thing, you need your head examined. Fans=money=payroll=players. Period. I dont care if the new blood are posers, fools, bandwagoners, or just plain newbies, bring em all on. Sorry if you have to leave earlier to park, sorry if the beer lines are longer, its the spoils of war. Speaking of spoils, the team, Oz, KW, JR brought the world series home! Remember? That thing that now defines our team and our baseball lifetimes? We should all be calm as Hindu cows right now. I know I am, but my fellow Sox fans frustrate me with all of this hand-wringing. Its not living in the past, its not blind faith, its trust. Not to sound overly rah-rah, but this team is much improved. yes, it has some flaws, but tell me what you would have done differently. Yes, another bullpen arm would be nice, but I have to believe KW and Coop know more about Thornton than I do, no matter how much Baseball Prospectus I read. I would rather have BMac in the pen and Javy #5 than BMac #5 and another minor in the pen. Thome brings us lefty power and BA, while still cutting his teeth, is a good replacement for Rowand. 2005's bench had Geoff Blum and Timo Perez, 2006 has Mackowiak and Cintron. Both vast improvements and great insurance. Thats what KW did this winter. Insured. We cant predict the future, we can only project, and why is everything always so doom and gloom here? Talk to me next homestand, maybe then well have a picture. Until then, the ledge should stored in the very backs of our minds. Yes, Cleveland will be very good this year, but are they perfect? absolutely not. They are exposed to the same risks as the Sox as is every team. Its time to show some trust, show some pride, and stay the course. Let the Cubs fans worry about how were playing, Im just enjoying the ride. -ZeroHour is a lurker on the SoxTalk message board. The opinions of ZeroHour are his own pipe-dream optimism and contain generalities that should be taken with a grain of salt. If you would like to enjoy the first Chicago World Series in 88 years, ZeroHour suggests cutting back on the sports radio. Welcome back and good post.
  6. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) I just wondered what the spin on this would have been if Bonds had said it Ha, good point. I actually hate Roger more then Bonds, not sure why but Clemens has always bugged me for some reason and I do hate Barry as well.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) I fully expected more. If we lose tomorrow, this place might explode.
  8. You can always give the money to me.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) This is the first time the White Sox are below .500 since 2004. I miss first place.
  10. I like the ring a lot, I think the only thing I'd change is I do like the square design a bit better. Other then that though, I think it's pretty sharp.
  11. 21. Stuck in the last century.
  12. Good stuff by the way. I absolutley love Cunningham and I'm very interested to see the progress of Fransisco and Brooks. Brandon Allen intrigues me as well. A lot of talent in Kanny this year.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) By the way, I just realized there are a few grammatical things that need to be fixed. Nah, I don't believe it.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) Hey, did anyone catch DJ talking about how hitters were going to put good swings on the ball against Logan all year long, only to foul them back or pop them up and wonder how they hell they did that? And then how the next pitch landed 900 feet away? I kind of thought that was funny myslf. DJ has always been the ultimate jinx.
  15. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) Here you go mate. I hope you like it. Beautiful.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) I'm actually rooting for Thomas more than I'm rooting for the A's, but I do like the team they have their -- mainly their defense. In my mind, it's without a doubt the best in the majors. Payton (or Swisher) - Kotsay - Bradley as an OF (defensively speaking)? :drool Ha, I'm just giving you s*** cause as you know I'm not the biggest A's fan. That being said, like I've said a few times here, I really do believe that on paper them and us are the two best teams in the majors.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Hey, if the shoe fits... HHJ is right. People (several, not all) regurgitate the same crap over and over and over and over. It gets tiring. Thomas just turned around a Kyle Farnsworth fastball for a double off the wall, clearing the bases. Three RBIs for Big Hurt tonight ( ), and Oakland is about to take two of three from the Yankees. I might have to strip you of your championship if you continue to cheer for the A's.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) 2005 proved to me it was all worth it. I have been a "die hard" since 02, and while its not a long time at all, I think I can say I pretty much know what its like to be defined as medicore. To dedicate so much time and energy into something, and then to see it all pay off at the end, there is no doubt in my mind it was all worth it. No doubt.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Good thread Keith. I was out to dinner with the GF tonight, and we were talking about the game, and then about just being a fan in general. She thought it was great that I love something so much, but she also doesnt like the fact that I will get upset and be in a different mood after they lose. I've had this conversation with many people. Like you said sometimes it's not the greatest thing in the world, cause I'm not exactly the best person to be around when a game like today takes place. Oh well though, I love this team and that won't ever change.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) I disagree on this. Boone gets by on deception, and movement. He requires some good control or he will be meat. His velocity is good, but his arm angle has to get strike one and then throw his breaking pitches near the plate. If he gets behind he will be in trouble. Matts fastball has movement, his slider is decent. He can be very overpowering if he throws strikes. The difference is if Boone gets behind he has less of a chance to get his fastball by a hitter, where Matt can rear back and just blow the hitter away. IMO I think the more work Matt gets, the more he shows control the more he should be used in the situation that Boone was in today. Having power arms at the back of a pen can make it a short game. I saw absolutely no movement on matts fastball on sunday but once again that's the only time I've seen him pitch. His slider as well didn't impress me to much. Boone does have deception in his delivery and that's why so far to me it looks like it gets up there faster on hitters. Obviously, I want to see them both pitch some more but those are just my impressions so far of each.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Wow, the Braves pen REALLY sucks. It's horrendous, I have no idea how they can win the East again with that pen but if any team can find a way, it'll be them.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I'm on the opposite boat, and I only think that's because with the changes Coop has made to Thornton's delivery and with his stuff, he can succeed here. From what I've seen(not to much obviously) I actually like Boone's overall stuff better, including his fastball which seems to get up on the hitters quicker then Matt's imo. Obviously, I got to see more because I didn't get to watch to many spring training games now being stuck in carbondale and I've only seen matt throw on Sunday night.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) I know everyone fell in love with Logan here, and like 3E8 I personally though Lopez was probably the better option. When it's all said and done, Logan has gone from the rookie league to the majors, and even if he's not going to walk a lot of guys, it won't matter if he's going to give up the longball a lot. At least Lopez has a history of being a fairly good groundball pitcher. But hopefully Boone proves me wrong, and because a success story for the Sox. As for Cotts, of course he should be used for the whole 8th inning. He's our best set-up guy, and all I was saying is that he shouldn't be used as a LOOGY like Logan is, even though he's by far the better reliever. Why Ozzie didn't use him today in that situation, I don't know. Boone is going to be just fine here. He's going to have a few rough spots but I like what I see out of him. I'm more worried about Thornton to be honest.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) We heard a lot about Logan's "ability" to throw strikes in ST and get the job done. But ST is ST. This is why he's up here for. To get tough lefties like Hafner out. If he's unable to do that, then we probably need to start looking for other options, even though it's WAY too early to make a knee jerk reaction. I don't really buy the lefty argument much with Cotts. He had better splits against righties last season, and he's our most dominating reliever, so you shouldn't bring him in just to face 1 lefty. Right and that's why you bring him in for the whole 8th. I really do like Boone actually, I think he's going to be solid up here but you don't need to throw him into the fire right away. I know others are bringing up cotts and bmac being thrown right in there but we did nurse shingo along in 04 until he started to dominate, there is absolutely no reason we can't do that with Boone. I do understand what 2k5 is saying but in that situation you really have to go with Neal.
  25. QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) I will add this comment; I am a bit surprised at two things in the last three games. The first is the lack of execution with runners in scoring position. Last year we would have brought home a runner from third with less than two outs even if it meant a fly ball. The second is our pitching nit picking their way. They are nippling and not bearing down especially with men on base. They are not attacking the hitters. We didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball in the first series against the Indians last year either.
