  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Is Jason Schmidt in his current form going to be an upgrade over Jose Contreras in a playoff series? DBAHO, that's where our scouts come into play. They saw him pitch his last start if they think his stuff is there and they believe he's going to revert back to previous years form then obviously he is an upgrade over Contreras. I personally would love Jason Schmidt I think you give him a few more starts and you'll see him dominating again but that's jmo.
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) By the way, the 2001 Mariners keep coming up, and I don't really think that's a good comparison. They were playing roughly as well as we were, but their team was built much differently. Their starting staff (at least if I remember it right) was Garcia, Moyer, Piniero, and Halama. Their offense, on the other hand, was fairly potent, with Ichiro at the top and Boone and Martinez hitting well in the middle. This team is not built the same way as ours. I don't see how you could argue that their rotation was in good shape for the playoffs. Our rotation is definitely more potent than theirs, making us better built for success in the playoffs. Ding, ding, ding. Here's the thing with the Mariners that year, they had a great offense and a great bullpen. Most times when teams dominate the regular season because of a dominate offense they're going to be in some trouble come playoff time. This current sox team already has a fantastic chance to win the whole damn thing because of the 3 pitchers at the top of the rotation. This team is made for the playoffs imo and unless you can get a stud to play 3b or a stud starting pitcher there is just no reason to make a trade just for the sake of making a trade.
  3. As of this moment right now Halladay has a slight advantage but Buehrle does have a start before the selection show, I'm not sure if Halladay does or not but those stats are so close one start either way can flip who should start. I think YAS said it in a different thread that it would be better if Mark doesn't start for the reason that the starter will throw more innings then anyone else and I agree with that completely.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) I expect the D-Backs to pick up some of these suddenly available relievers. Me or you could find a spot in the dbacks bullpen, so yeah I definitely agree with you.
  5. QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Not sure who else is in it, I think Tejada and Jones but that's all I know, just saw a commercial. OK..........?????
  6. VA, I'm not trashing Vizquel, I actually respect Omar a ton, I'm a pretty big fan of the way he plays the game. However Juan is a 25 year old shortstop who has more pop in his bat then Omar and at this point has more range then Vizquel and a much better arm. To answer your question unless a Chavez is available or a player of that capability I leave the offense alone. Crede and Juan who might not be hitting the cover off the ball have been a huge, huge part of this teams success because they suck everything hit to them and make some outstanding plays.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Thats Crazy Talk, our guys are hitting the ball to all fields and using defensive swings on 2 strikes. Stats dont tell the story What about 9th in baseball in runs scored??? You guys make this offense out to suck when in all honesty some of you guys are just spoiled with this team, they're so good and you just expect the hitting to be perfect, good pitching will shut down good hitting any day of the week and it happens with every team not just us. As I said in the game thread yesterday for the last few games the sox offense has been slumping but everytime they've had a little slump they've broke out of it so quickly. The offense is fine, it's not the best in baseball but they get every clutch hit and they score when the have to, period.
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) So, nobody wants to discuss this ^ at all? Seems like a better topic than arguing back and forth about offense that will just end like all the other arguments have ended...with nobody swaying the other side. Has anyone mentioned we have more wins this year then the dbacks had all of last season.
  9. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Do you guys just want to bank on being clutch in the playoffs against ace-quality pitchers? I think Kenny will make a deal for another stick. Why not?? They've done it all year, it's not going to magically go away.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) THE single most important stat in this area. Exactly, who cares how they're scoring runs, I could careless if it's statistically pretty just score some runs and contrary to what some people believe they've been scoring enough runs and consistantly scoring some runs.
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) No one is whining. I think some people just recognize that our offense isn't hitting as well as they should be and think it is a valid concern... Sortable Team Stats: .260 team AVG (ranked 24th in MLB) .323 team OBP (ranked 26th in MLB) *waits for the obligatory, "look at our record!" response* Everytime you show these stats how come you leave out runs scored????????
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) And many people also just assume it is always great pitching instead of a bad approach by our lineup. It goes both ways, dude. It's not even close, if the offense has a bad game it's always on the offense, ALWAYS. Some people think that just cause is a pitcher isn't great that they can't throw a good game. Perfect example:Tuesday, Robertson was great, he was changing speeds and locating his pitches beautifully on the corners but of course it was just our offense getting shutdown by a mediocre pitcher.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) I know Crede said he was just trying for a base hit when he went deep last night. I know around here when the offense gets shut down it's always there fault, however good pitching can shut down an offense some time but around here at times you think that's not possible.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Stone for Brantley sounds like a winner to me. Brantley's a doof. Anyways nothing wrong with what Reynolds did, the only starter you can argue for the sox is really Mark and him and Halladay are very close. That's a tossup imo.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) I was thinking more in terms of the line of Rogo or Gload filling in at 1B for a year or two. My feelings as well. I especially think Ross deserves a shot, he can hit, period.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) No,were not. Don't even try Rowand, he is a waste of energy. Good call Tony. Anyways, GO SOX!!!!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Getting no hit by average pitchers for inning after inning is pretty frustrating. If it happens tonight, it won't be that bad because Harden is a stud. You've got to be kidding me, we're still on this?????
  18. Still gotta have faith Jabroni, everytime someone has doubted this team they rise to the occasion. Like I said earlier this place scares the s*** out of me but I just have so much confidence in this team and I'll take my chances.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) oomph You made this post just to use that word, don't lie
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Warrick has Gerald Wallace written all over him. Amazing athlete. But what else can he do? He would be perfect for a run and gun team. But a half-court team like the Grizzlies? Ya, maybe but everything Jerry West touches turns to gold.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) There 53-24, why anyone ever get the feeling there going to lose?? Thank you. No, Jabroni with this team I don't think they'll lose many series and they haven't, they're the best team in baseball why would anyone predict them to lose?? Obviously this s*** hole of a place is the exception because weird, weird things happen there for us but I think we can finally win a series there or atleast I hope.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) Yep, all 3 should be in. But will they? Who knows? A.L. ERA Leaders: 1. Roy Halladay (2.40) 2. Mark Buehrle (2.42) 3. Kenny Rogers (2.46) 4. Bartolo Colon (3.02) 5. Jarrod Washburn (3.21) 6. Jon Garland (3.25) 7. Freddy Garcia (3.29) 8. Matt Clement (3.33) 8. Chris Young (3.33) 10. Jason Johnson (3.39) Damn, imagine if Clement would have signed here. Our rotation would be sicker than it already is. Not necessarily, if Clement was signed there's a good chance AJ wouldn't have been. I think Clement is a very solid pitcher but I think he'll be a hit a bit more in the 2nd half of this season, jmo.
  23. *shudders* I hate this freakin place but I do think we will win this series, just got a feeling. All I know is that last series had the weirdest back to back games I've probably ever seen with the last 2 games of that series.
  24. A month or two ago I would have loved Wagner, however with Shingo imo back we really don't need a bullpen arm. I'd rather not trade for a guy like Wagner and go for a starting pitcher ala Schmidt or Burnett a top of the rotation guy in other words. Obviously if the sox really want schmidt that bad then our scouts were impressed with what they saw and think he can return back to his previous form and I think I'd be inclined to trust them.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) 2005 Runs scored Sox = 370 Det = 334 Ya. I see your point. Wite got owned.
