Top Ten AL Central Prospects
Here's the thing about Pods, he had a bad year last year with the stick but still scored 85 runs. Although 85 isn't a ton it's still more then Kotsay and Pods averaged more runs per game then Shannon Stewart did. I made the comparison with those two because both of those guys have high on base percentages but a low amount of stolen bases. Just an interesting comparison, imo.

Shingo Takatsu
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) I have seen shingo hit 90-91 nearly everytime he pitched last year. Ditto. I think Shingo is going to be fine, as people have said already that speed differential is just to hard for the hitters to get a read on. I think Shingo keeps his era under 3 for sure, jmo.

How many games are you going to this year?
I bought the Ozzie plan, so I'm locked into 14 games so far but I'll get to atleast 20.

Puppies killed...
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) The punishments are too light... This sicko ought to get 25 years to life in jail. Same with any murderer. I can't stand people like this. No, he deserves worse then that. He deserves a f***in bat to the head.

NBC Sports predicts White Sox to win A.L. Central!
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) IIRC, we were the underdogs last year too...or if we weren't, we should have been. That didn't work out so well for us either. Who gives a flyin' f*** what the media has to say? If you give a s*** about that stuff, you've already lost half the battle. Agreed.

NBC Sports predicts White Sox to win A.L. Central!
Well, there's less then a week before pitchers and catchers report, nothing is really going on right now, all these publications are starting to make predictions. Anyone think it's time for the official soxtalk predictions thread?? or still to early?

NBC Sports predicts White Sox to win A.L. Central!
QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Has any columnist or radio guy in Chicago picked us for anything? Also I don't think it's a far reach that he picked the Cubs..they're pretty good I don't think the Cubs are going to win their division but I don't htink it's a reach, as Cheat has mentioned plenty of times, the NL Central isn't very good.

randy moss
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Honestly, yes I do. A top 5 draft pick and a defensive starter is more than enough for that *insert expletive deleted here*. Here's the thing, Angelo is in the position to draft a WR of Moss' calibur with that #4 pick without giving up anything in return. Yup, Williams is that good. Well......they're in position to draft a very good reciever but I wouldn't say of Moss's calibur. I'm interested to see of you bears fans, how many would like Randy on the team and how many wouldn't??

Pierre Pierce
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Stolen from an Iowa board but this is reportedly an account of Pierce's recent incident. Pierce decided to go to his girlfriends house in which an arguement occured, the police responded by going to the girls house and telling pierce to leave in which he did. Then later on that night pierce came back and walked in the house and threw her up against the couch he then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, the girl ran upstairs and locked herself in a room for 2 hours, thinking by that time Pierce had left she went back down stairs but Pierce was still in her living room, he then grabbed her and stripped her down and choked her and he said " is this how ur new boyfriend does it" and " is this how u like it now" later she managed to run out the door and get in her car but pierce caught up to her and grabbed the steering wheel but she put in reverse and got away, and she then went to a friends house , during this team pierce destroyed the 1st floor of her house and ransacked her room. Wow, what a mess :headshake

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Tis fair enough. Guess I made it in late to see that you didn't want to argue. Oh well Ha, don't worry about it Wite. I respect your guys opinion on Oakland, I just have a different opinion on it, so imo it's just kind of pointless to argue about it since neither of us are going to change our opinions.

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Buehrle - 16-10 3.89 ERA 1.26 WHIP K/9 of 6 Garcia - (with us) 9-4 4.46 ERA 1.24 WHIP K/9 of 9 Duque - 8-2 3.30 ERA 1.29 WHIP K/9 of 9...take into account that this is 84.6 IP over 15 starts, or UNDER 6 innings per start. That is horrible. Zito - 11-11 4.48 ERA 1.39 WHIP K/9 of 6.9...IN HIS WORST YEAR EVER Harden- 11-7 3.99 ERA 1.33 WHIP K/9 of 7.9...in his first full year starting, his second year in the bigs. Plus you have Meyer, Haren, and Blanton, along with Cruz either being in the rotation or the pen. That rotation will be among the best in the league, and if one of those 3 breaks out and becomes a very good starter, I take theirs over ours in a second. I think Harden is a stud and will probably improve this year and has the potential to be the best of the bunch. Zito has to bounce back because he just wasn't very good last year. The thing is I just think a bunch of people just assume someone is going to break out for them and be an automatic stud, I just don't see it happening this year. Either way we'll agree to disagree and qwert I know you weren't arguing, I just disagree with you and I was saying I don't want to argue about it.

Duke/UNC Prediction
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Yep Rowand they definitely have problems getting through screens, I think it has to do with communication. They have great athleticism and some great on-ball defenders like Felton and Manual, but they still don't communicate. I don't want to call them dumb, just not equipped well with basketball IQ unlike normal Roy recruits. I understand your point Rowand that Duke doesn't have the depth of talent they usually have. But they have Shav(#1 recruit in his class), Shelden(top 10 in class), Ewing(top 20), Redick(top 15), Nelson(top 15), Dockery(top 25), and even Melchionni, and McClure were top 70 recruits. I certainly don't think they have any less talent than probably 20 of the top 25 teams in the poll's. Depth is a problem though compared to the past. I totally agree, I think people are just used to seeing Duke have top 5 talent level but this year they don't. They're obviously still a talented team, just not as talented as past duke teams. Like I said I understand your point about Coach K though, he's been getting a ton of praise for this supposed non talent team he has on the court and trust me I do love Mike but some times ESPN goes a bit overboard, who am I kidding---Sometimes they go overboard??

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) I do know that they are in a much better position to be good for a long time. Haren, blanton, meyer, and even cruz have a damn good chance of being studs or number two starters. All of them tore up the minors except cruz but he is pretty damn nasty. Their pen is also loaded with young live arms. Whatever, we'll see. I don't feel like arguing about the A's.

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Might Toronto, if I looked into it more, I probably would not. But I might argue with Oakland. Is Buehrle-Garcia-Duque > Zito-Harden-Blanton/Meyer/Cruz? Yes, very much so. Isn't cruz going to be in the bullpen?? Also Blanton and Meyer haven't proven anything in the majors you can't just assume they're going to be good.

Duke/UNC Prediction
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Ah yes, now I remember why I hate Duke. They have the most arrogant fans in all of basketball. Ouch........you guys are killing me here. Butter, you honestly got to stop with this no respect stuff. Anyways, palehose this duke team has talent but they aren't one of the more talented teams in college basketball this year, I think that's why people are saying that but your point is well taken. Either way, depending on the bracket(obviously) I think they're a sweet 16 team at best, maybe elite 8 if they get a favorable bracket. As palehose knows I haven't been that high on UNC this year and I still don't think they're a final four team but that's jmo. Palehose, tell me if you think this is a fair assessment about their defense: to me it seems like they're pretty good on the ball defenders but they have some problems getting through screens, defending backcuts, etc. That's something that I've noticed from watching them, that they obviously have the athletisicm to be a good defensive team but at times they have problems with the communication aspect.

Ex-Sox Player Admits to Steroids!
From rotoworld: Nomar Garciaparra will be outed as a steroids user in Jose Canseco's book, a source told Boston Dirt Dogs. Claims made my Canseco should hardly be taken as fact, but they are being treated as news. Here's one more name to add to the list.

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Totaly agree. The Yanks have just as many question marks as anyone else. BUT, it terms of raw talent...Yank's question marks, or White Sox's question marks? I'd choose the former. Don't get me wrong, the White Sox rotation is nothing to scoff at. I have the yankees ahead of the sox for a simple reason........Randy Johnson, Buehrle is absolutely great but he's not the Unit. I have the red sox in front because of schilling and the depth they have with 6 major league caliber starters. After that, I rank the sox 3rd because after Santana I'm skeptical on Minny's rotation, Radke had his career year last year and I'm not that high on Silva and Lohse and Mays are garbage, imo.

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Of couse they do. No need of mentioning. However, how could they have "more" question marks than the Sox? Well, like I said I have no problem with the way you ranked those rotations though imo I flip the sox and twins for now. Anyways with the yanks rotation you got pavano coming off a career year and switching from the nl to the al can he repeat what he did last year? Moose is coming off a injury and pitched poorly while he was healthy last year. Wright failed a physical and how's he going to pitch without mazzone? Brown is always injured. So the yanks have quite a number of ??? in their rotation also. Santo mentioned the ones with Boston's rotation. The question marks surrounding the sox are can Jose be consistant and can el duque stay healthy? All of these rotations have some questions, should be interesting to see how all of them turn out, jmo.

SI, AL Rotation Rankings
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) My list. 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox 3. Twins 4. White Sox (We have a lot of question marks fellas, sorry.) 5. Angels I have no problem with that list but all the teams you mentioned have as many if not more question marks in their rotation then the sox.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Really, 17-23? I thought I heard on the telecast Nessler or Vittell (sp?) say that they were 10-20 or something like that... Meh, probably heard wrong. Nah, you didn't hear wrong I believe Nessler did say that.

*Official* College Basketball Thread
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Outside of Sean May, it was just a collective choke. Many, many, problems. Rashad shot horribly, Felton played terribly, Marvin choked on the line, Jawad Williams didn't show up, what the HELL was David freaking Noel in the game for for the last shot. All of Duke's baskets outside of a layup by Nelson were 3 point field goals, ALL of them. No reason UNC should have even been in this game, but they choked it away anyways. Its gonna be tough for me to give a damn about colllege basketball for a while now. You'll feel better tomorrow Palehose. I was definitely shocked when Felton passed up the wide open lane at the end of the game--I was holding my breath there, didn't look good. I've never been big on Mccants and I would expect something like this out of him but Raymond I never expected it out of. Crazy game, fun to watch for me

Batting 3rd
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Well there has to be some reason when your best player is batting 7th when the team is desperate for offense. The fact is that it wasn't until Rowand gave him no choice did he finally put him at the top of the order. Now he wants to move him back to the bottom. Something messed up about that. Ozzie obviously thinks that's the best part of the order for him, I disagree but I do agree he shouldn't be hitting 1st or 2nd. There is no doubt in my mind that as of right now Aaron should be either 3rd or 6th in the order, Ozzie wants to use him in the 6th hole so be it, if he continues to rake and Jermaine faulters a bit I'm sure you'll see him switch the lineup a little. I know you love aaron but jeez ozzie doesn't have a personal vendetta against the guy.

QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) I just hope Digger will stop riding UNC's nuts now and just admit Illinois is the best team in the Nation Well.....as you guys know I hate UNC and Illinois but as of right now there is absolutely no way you can say anything but the Illini being the best team in the nation. That doesn't mean they're necessarily going to win the national championship but as of right now they are the class of college basketball.
