Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Watched Carla play in 03, watched as balls Rowand was camoping under and making a Fire roasted marshmellows Everett was not even close to getting. My tix were in RCF, got to see that sad excuse for a OF play almsot everyday in 03 (during the 2nd half) Didn't need him then and don't need him now. You fail to mention that Carl was the only guy on our team that year who hit down the stretch in those series against the twins. Carl was our most productive hitter down the stretch that year. I'm sure you won't get an argument from anyone here that Carl should never, ever play centerfield but a healthy Carl is still a very good player.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) How about taking a pay cut and being the Hot Dog Vendor.. Thats about as close to a White Sox team I want him to be.. Your "theory" is saying that Harold baines would be a OF in his hayday with this team.. May I ask what you have against Carl, I assume you just don't like him because Kenny traded for him.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) If brewers fans do not like his fielding i do not like his fielding. They say he gets really really s***ty reads. I've heard that too from some people but there were a lot of people who said that about Aaron in his first few seasons, like I said I want to watch him play defensively before I make a judgement on his ability in the field.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) What intangibles? He is not a very good fielder and is not that great of bunter. To be honest with you I don't recall his fielding ability very much, there seems to be different sets of opinions about his fielding though, I want to see him play the outfield before I make that judgement. He can bunt, maybe he's not the greatest bunter in the world but he can do it. He can also score from first on a double, him stealing bases obviously helps a great deal because a ton of times when he gets on he'll be in scoring position, knowing how to leadoff in general, making pitchers think about him when he's on base and not the batter, Scott brings a ton to the table, I know you're not a huge fan of him but I think you'll like him much more as the season goes on but that's jmo. EDIT: By the way I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, I know where you stand and vice versa

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) Rowand I agree with you in regards to Gwety comparing apples and oranges.. That is like comparing who will have a better year Crede or Feilds.. I don't think Frank gets replaced by Carla, Frank comes back healthy Carla is on a one way trip out of a Sox uni , and that my friends is a happy day in soxland. I don't mean Frank necessarily but I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie keeps the hot bat in the lineup between Carl and Jermaine.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Still love the low expectations for a lead-off hitter now a days. .340 obp for a lead-off hitter is garbage. I know, it is all his steals that make up for it right? The stolen bases help...yes, also some of the intangibles he brings plus the fact when he's on base he's going to score a lot of runs just because of his speed. Scott brings a lot to the table and not all of what he brings can be seen statistically.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) He will have a better year than podesednik. You will see. What do you mean by better year?? It's kind of hard to compare those two but if Scott gets on base at a .340 clip he's going to really help this team. Anyways I believe when Frank comes back Ozzie will keep the hot bat in the lineup he said as much at soxfest, if Carl is swinging the bat well I'm sure he'll find his way in the lineup.

Opening Day Tix Question...
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) s***, I'm tempted to take a day of school and come on down. Too bad my spring break is the week before that one. But who needs school anyway. Ditto with spring break being the week before, I miss how they had the season start a week earlier a couple years back when I had spring break.

Maggs Update; Tigers are Close
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Sooooooo.. is Maggs going to Detroit or not..? You're the one with the sources I think this is much further apart then some people are making it out to be but that's jmo.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) Nobody, I would see have the best man from our prospects come up and sit on the bench and fill in for some time, then DH paulie and have Gload play 1b. It might not be the best laid plan but come July time and beyond we have some money to spend and also prospects that can be used past 2006. Beck I do like the idea of having Carl on this team till Frank comes back, and we might get more for him.. I just don't want Carla on this team by AUgust Sept time, esp if we are out of it. Why the heck would you want to hinder the development of our prospects by sitting them on the bench?? Just doesn't make sense.

I just made a bet...
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) lol@rowand, Remember how everybody in here had the Slubs in the series and we were the only two that said they would eventually choke? I believe everybody said we needed to take off our white sox colored glasses and get out of denial. Last years cubs team just reminded me to much of sox teams in the past. Josh, you think 90-95 wins is to many wins to expect from this team. I really believe this team is capable of 95 victories if they can stay healthy.

ESPN just reported
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) But see, that's the thing. One doesn't just lose control, and at AAA Charlotte, Diaz had awesome control -- 2004 B-Mac like control, IIRC. One might have the jitters for a while, but one doesn't just lose control -- unless it's after a surgery, or in changing your throwing motion. GeneHC and I (Gene, I hope you're still in this boat... ) still maintain that Felix can still make it as a real solid number 3-4 starter. He's got good control, he can locate the pitches that he throws, and he mixes it up well (at least -- when I saw him when he was on, so-to-speak). Sure, he doesn't bring the heat, but he can still be a good pitcher. With our one-two pitchers locked up for a while -- as well as our threes and fours locked up through '06 -- Felix might be able to serve as our number five in 2007, with (hopefully) B-Mac and someone else (Garland, FA brought in, Tracey) in front of him. Wow, am I doof or what -- looking ahead to 2007... :banghead If you're a doof then I am too, I think a lot of us have looked a couple years ahead, kinda something to think about before the season starts and nothing is going on. I think diaz has a chance to be a 5th starter in this league and I've said that before because of his control. He didn't show his pinpoint control when he was brought up last year and the problem I have with his fastball is not how fast he throws it, it's just straight as an arrow, the ball just doesn't move, as of right now I maintain I think Grilli gives us a better option in the rotation then Diaz would but if Felix would learn to throw in the majors then maybe he would give us a better chance. On the other hand Grilli has some pretty good stuff so if he could learn to locate better then he could be a decent option, either way lets hope we don't have to worry about this during the season

Pod's or Hairston?
QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) I don't think so. I mean, Pod's SBs are just like adding on 70 doubles onto his stats. SB's automatically put you into scoring position. More of a lost art, IMO. I'm with you 100 percent on this one, I think the stolen base is more underrated then overrated.

Do you guys think we need to awnser
QUOTE(kwill @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) i dont konw about you guys but for some reason i am still hoping for kenny to pull off one more trade just to take the headlines away from the sosa deal. I believe that the sox dominated the headlines in chicago this offseason, and i would like to see kenny make a trade just to keep the momentum going in our favor. It doesnt sound to logical but i was wondering if anyone else felt this way. I think we still have major pawns to play either now or at the deadline. I think we should keep willie for now and see how crede plays in the first half. IF he doesnt produce we could ship him out at the deadline, iguchi to ss, and put willie back in. I believe the sox could get alot for crede in return. Anyone have these thoughts or am i the only who thinks this way?? By the way who here wants to just kick the s*** out of all the critics who are nto giving kenny credit for remaking the club. He has done a terrific job this offseason but no one gives him props. First off welcome, Secondly, I honestly could care less who's getting the headlines, I just want to win.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Why? Because I think Jason is a better starting pitcher then Felix is, I'm not saying I want to get rid of Felix, I'm just saying Jason is a better emergency starter, imo. Felix might be useful some day if he brings his control with him from aaa but if he's not pin point he's going to have some problems, cause he has 0 movement on his fastball.
