2005 Draft Possibility for the Sox...
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Royce Ring was considered a "closer" but Baseball America and other experts said he could be a closer but had more of set-up man stuff. This guy is a power pitcher which Ring wasn't. Who cares if he's a power pitcher. I agree to take the best overall player available however I don't think taking a relief pitcher in the first round is a good idea, jmo.

Bulls AT Heat
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) What happened to the Bulls? Three losses in a row, is it possible that I was drunk on the black and red kool-aid and didn't see that they really sucked? Miami is just a better team, period. The bulls will be fine.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) No one's defending the Beltre contract. Both are overpayment by two franchises that won't sniff the playoffs this year. I agree with that.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Beltre has had exactly one season over .265 avg., over 80 rbi, .426 slugging, and over 23 HRs. Beltre signed for 5 years $64 million. Tell me Maggs is worth less than Beltre. GMAB. Maggs averaged for 6 seasons over Beltre's one career year. With protections in place in case the Doctors here are right and he loses major time, something over $64 million is within the insanity that is baseball salaries. Beltre was paid soley on this year and his career year blew out of the water what maggs has ever done. I loved maggs when he was here also but you're sorely overrating his value.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) I wouldnt go so far as saying he is bad in RF. He is definitely nowhere close to as good as most people think though. He has a frickin cannon but he made 9 errors last year. I'll go as far as saying he's bad He gets some of the worst reads on the ball I've seen for a right fielder.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) I can't say I agree with that. I always thought Maggs was the overrated one - A just above average fielder at best. imo. I agree that Maggs is just above average fielding out there but Vlad is just plain bad in right field, his arm overshadows his fielding ability and that's why you here so many people calling him a good fielder imo.

Rumors thread
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) Isn't BJ going to be a free agent after this year? (this year will be his sixth year in the majors) What the f*** is the point in giving up 3 guys that we control for at least another 3 years for a bullpen arm? Because besides Neal the others aren't very useful at this point, Borch isn't going to be on the team and willie while a nice back up plan is expendable imo. BJ is obviously one of the better relievers out there and we're trying to win this year, I'd do that trade in a heart beat. Our bullpen would become even more shutdown but as mentioned before this is all moot cause this trade would make 0 sense for bmore.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Great post. If you also take into account other parts of their game - fielding, throwing arm, base running etc it's not even close as to who should be earning more, and that's not even taking health issues into consideration. The one thing I will say is that Maggs when healthy is a better defensive right fielder then Vlad, Vlad is an overrated rated outfielder.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(CubKilla @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) That type of logic goes completely against the thought process' of the "Little Reinsy's" on this board. Jeez, give me a break. The sox offer to maggs was actually overly generous in my mind to begin with. Maggs is a very good player but he's not elite, he's not worth 15 million dollars, not even close imo. Payroll keeps going up and up killa, it's not perfect but it's not horrible either.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) There are players several worthy of 15 million: There are some more I'd add to that list: Pujols, Arod, Vlad.

Rumors thread
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) The more I think of it... This is a horrible rumor... The O's would never ever do that deal. Yup agreed, the only person usable for them is Neal, they have a 2b and plenty of outfielders there would be no room for willie or borch.

Rumors thread
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) No. Damn that's a s***ty trade. For who??? I'd do that trade in a second. Borchard's nothing, Willie is definitely expendable, the only would I would miss is Neal but getting another stud like Ryan would give us perhaps the two best lefty relievers in the al along with steve kline.

Crede
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) He is one of the 3 guys that are key for this season. Crede Contreas Podsednik. I'm going to add another player, his name is Health To me that is the key to the season but I agree with you those three are huge keys.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) Did anyone hear how the workout for the Tigers went this week? I would say that they must feel he looks good... or they are just feeling the need to add a player to their team. Honestly, I think it's the latter. Detroit built their fans up so high for this offseason making it look like they were going to land a couple of stars and they have just signed Percival.

Experts cooling the optimism
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) Crede is that slow. You watching a different crede than me? Frank might be even slower after coming back from the surgery. When i think of a speed team i think of a team that can go from first to third almost at will. That is not gonna be the white sox in 2005. Yes, you must be watching a different Crede then me cause Joe isn't that slow.

Experts cooling the optimism
QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) it's bothered me that you haven't asked one of the mods/admins to change your name to rowand33....that is unless there already is one. LOL, sorry, I've thought about it I just don't want to mess with the name, you know there is just to much awesomeness attached to it

Experts cooling the optimism
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) When we are at full strength we have four of the slowest players in the league if not all of baseball. It is not a guarantee when someone hits a single that pierz, crede, konerko, or thomas will score from second. Sometimes i wonder if konerko will be able to score if he was on first and someone hit a triple. Crede isn't that slow. Aj and Pauly are snails and Frank while definitely slow isn't Pauly slow.

MLB.com AL Central pre-season predictions
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) Is what? The Sox scored the third most runs in the league with Frank and Maggs missing 198 combined games. I don't know how many games Frank will be missing this year, but Dye is replacing Borchard/Perez/Gload, Uribe is replacing Valentin, AJ is replacing Olivo/Alomar/Burke/Davis, and Crede can't get any worse than the way he played last season. Plus we added a real top of the order and more overall balance to the lineup which should help provide some consistancy. Like I've said before I'd take this offense over the one we've had in past years. Add that to a good rotation and a great bullpen and this is one hell of a team imo.

MLB.com AL Central pre-season predictions
QUOTE(YoungstownIndians @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Bullpen is even now. We both suck! The sox have one of the better and deepest pens in the league, do your hw please. Our rotation is also better. You guys had a great offense last year, however you lost both guys who made that offense tick last year in Lawton and Omar. The Indians won't finish .500 this year.

Like it or not...
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Pierz is so damn underated defensively as a catcher it's not even funny. From what i have seen he moves around back there pretty well and seems to block everything in the dirt. I have seen very few better in the past five years better at blocking balls in the dirt. Why is it always said he is a bad catcher? Because of his weak arm? No fricken kidding, I'm with you 100 percent, it really drives me up a wall when people say that.

I hate matching teams up position by position it's a horrible way to compare teams imo.

Harold
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Hey....i thought harold baines didnt want to be the third base coach anymore, whats up with that? will he still be the third base coach? he said he wasnt the right fit for the job... This thead confuses me, anyways Harold was never the 3rd base coach and as of right now he's still the bench coach.
