I'd love to have Castillo however I'm not giving up any of our bullpen arms unless it was adkins or someone like that(which wouldn't get anything done) the bullpen as currently constructed is so good and having a great bullpen is very important throughout the season but even more important in the playoffs, a good bullpen can honestly win you a world series, ala the angels of 02.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Guys, the Bulls are going to stumble. They're too young not to do so. You are going to have guys hitting the rookie wall soon, and the schedule is going to get much tougher. If they do make the playoffs, I wouldn't expect much from them. There is a similarity between the NBA and NHL when it comes to the difference between regular season and playoff games. They take it to another level. None of the main cogs of the Bulls has any playoff experience whatsoever. If they win a playoff series, consider it a MAJOR accomplishment and sign of good things to come. If they don't, which is more likely to happen, consider it a learning experience. Even MJ had learn how to win in the playoffs. However, the resurgence of the Bulls is great to see. They are heading in the right direction. But if "the sky is the limit" is referring to this year's team, I think you are going to be disappointed. I think the bulls will get in but you're right it would be a major accomplishment for them to win a playoff series, however if they can some how get into the 6 slot they'd have a pretty good shot at winning their first round matchup, a long way to go but just something to look at with that 6th playoff spot.

QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) So I'm going to send this family some Thomas memorabilia because I feel for this poor kid. Maybe we could work on a donation some how here at soxtalk.com Just feel like giving back to make it better for the less fortunate. Beastly, that's one hell of a thing to do, well done.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) The bar tab for the weekend.... a mere $1,061. Yeesh steff, what the hell were you guys doing? EDIT: I really wish I would have met up with you guys, I could have put a couple more things on your tab, steff

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) Right here most of he time you don't "lock-up" players for 1-2 years. Once again where did I say I wanted shingo locked up to a long term deal. All I said was him and Pk are the two main players who are free agents after this year, I never said to lock shingo up to a long term deal.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Pauly yeah If we can lock him up great lets do it, Does anyone know any other FA 1b are out there for the 05 offseason? Shingo? He has one good half year as the closer and you want to ink him to a long term deal?? Lets see what he does this year before we jump the gun like we did with Uribe. Please show me where I said I wanted shingo locked up to a long term deal??

Ozzie: Lee didn't retaliate, got shipped out

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Sox handled that whole situation better than I would have. They let Jackson get his 1000th appearance and I believe let him pass one other guy on the all time list (Gossage?) who had 1005 ... and cut him afterwards. If it's me, his ass would've been cut a lot sooner. But ... water under the bridge. Jim, I think all of us wanted him gone before that apperance but like you said that's all over now and we don't have to put up with thriller for another year. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I read this article this morning. This was really refreshing for a change after the soap opera we had to go through last season. It'll be nice to get something done with him so we can see Kong on the south side for a few more years. I agree, Pauly and shingo are the two main guys who are free agents after this year everyone else is locked up, if we can lock up pauly for a few more years this team has a chance to be very good for atleast the next 2-3 years with the current group.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Please. Like this is just me. If you don't think there's a lot of evidence that AJ's a jerk (like Rooney's quip, like multiple teammates calling him out in the paper), then you're living under a rock. Were you at soxfest?? Like southsider said I think you'd feel much better about aj as a person if you were there. I'm not going to say he's the nicest guy in the world but he's not a clubhouse cancer either, imo. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) I did learn something interesting about AJ. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Hawk. Hawk knows his whole family and has been talking to AJ personally for years. He has watched AJ play since he was 15 in HS. As a matter of a fact Hawk tried to get the Sox to draft AJ over Mark Johnson. He also has talked to him about the incident in SF and explained it in detail. I feel much better about AJ after listening to AJ talk, and to knowing his connections to this organization. He really has some incentive to be a model citizen. Exactly 2k5, what Hawk said about the cards incident makes a ton of sense to me, I could easily see something like that happening. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) I sorta have that game burned in my memory, unfortunately. Rowand did go in pretty hard in the 8th inning but it wasn't a bang-bang play at 2B, so he didn't have a chance to roll the guy at 2nd. Lee did not go in hard at all in the 9th but as I recall it was the same sort of situation, meaning he wasn't close to the 2B at the force out. I really didn't think too much of it. As some on this board may remember, I was much more livid that Mike Jackson didn't plunk Hunter in the 9th inning. Don't care to rehash the whole right/wrong debate, just mentioning that's how I felt (feel) about it. SS25K is dead on here though ... get players on the team that'll play the aggressive style consistently. If Jackson attempted to hit Hunter, Torrii probably would have hit a homerun -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) after signing AJP. (Interestingly, in the Hunter-Burke game, John Rooney mentioned that the Twins were very glad to lose AJP.) For the rest of this offseason, anytime Sox management announces how important character is, it's just bs. I'm glad you've met aj and know what kind of guy he is. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) Ozzie exact words were that the player went into second base "like his wife was playing SS. So we got rid of his butt." Ya, like I said I just don't recall that exact play obviously it stuck with ozzie because he probably did want the players to go after someone by themselves but like I said it just struck me about carlos because one thing about Lee he always did seem to go into 2nd hard but I guess he didn't on that particular play. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) The big thing he kept saying was they shouldn't just talk about it. If they were mad do something about it. He also said that whatever they would have done, the team would have backed them up. Yup, he talked about that nothing gets accomplished talking about it through the media, he also mentioned freddy's retaliation problem was that was a couple months later. As for Carlos I don't recall that exact play ozzie is thinking of and carlos always seemed to be someone that went into 2nd hard, very surprising to me. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Alright, I can see that. But Oz can't blame Carlos when he just sat on his ass and didn't have his pitcher hit anyone... See what I'm saying? Ozzie wanted the players to retaliate, oz has said numerous times and a lot of times this weekend also that if Hunter was on his team he would have hugged the guy, he also said if the players didn't like it they should have done something about it. -
QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) What's gonna happen with Crazy Carl once Frank comes back I wonder? Some kid asked ozzie that today in one of the seminars and he said whoever isn't swinging the bat well is going to be sitting next to him and kenny said it's called depth. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how carl gets incorporated in lineup once frank is fully healed.

If tony is healthy he'd be the perfect player to add to this team. He can play shortstop and be the utility guy and is a perfect platoon partner for willie.

Just got back a couple hours ago from being there all 3 days, I had a great time. I think there were a couple of you I recognized like aboz, jason, and steff but for some reason I didn't say hi to anyone, I don't know why. I prolly saw you to 2k5 just don't recall seeing a picture of you so I don't know what you look like. Anyways like I said I had a blast, I think it's safe to say the seminars were completely different this year compared to last year as far as attitude. It was pretty funny when steff went up to make a comment to Kenny and he said "aren't you the one who yelled at me last year," it looked like you got kind of embarrased steff, lol. Hope everyone else had a good time too.

Best overall player on the sox is Aaron, imo.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Joe Borchard joined Dickerson and Levine. Sounds like a genuinely nice fellow. Which is going to hurt even more when he begins 2005 in Charlotte. Ya, he's a good guy during the opening ceremonies tonight I was worried he was going to get booed, got that a little but it wasn't to bad. I'll be going back down there tomorrow and stay at the hotel tomorrow night and be there sunday to, can't wait to go back had a great time tonight. Also is it true Freddy won't be there at all??
