Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) I honestly won't care if we see exciting baseball from young players who progress and grow and get better throughout the season. Exactly. We're not going to lose 100 games but even if we do, who cares as long as our young hopefully core players progress the way we all hope they do. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) No more Kid Rock in the 9th Most over looked part of this trade, what's our next closer's entrance music? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) With all due respect, who gives a s*** about Connor Gillaspie? With Davidson coming in, he isn't the 3B of tomorrow. He isn't even the 3B of today anymore. Unless Davidson isn't ready, you send Connor to Charlotte. If someone claims him, oh well. I don't think anyone is going to freak if Connor is gone, I know I won't, I'd just rather have him on the roster than Keppinger. And that has nothing to do with hating Kepp, I think Connor just makes more sense on this roster. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Here's what you do, you focus on the nacho helmets. Who can argue with that?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) He's played 2 games in LF in his professional career and never played any mid-IF position in professional ball (including minors). He can cover 3b and 1b...2 positions where we're loaded. What does Keppinger provide though? Garcia plays every position plus more that Kepp can plus Jeff has no platoon partner at the moment. What's he going to do? Ph for Dunn? At least Connor's bat can be somewhat useful off the bench. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Hate to use a total cliche but strikeouts are just another out. K's become a problem when you aren't getting on base and you are k'ing often with runners in scoring position. I can't find his minor league #'s with RISP at the moment but his obp is just fine. Adam Dunn managed to be a darn good player for quite a few years despite K'ing a ton, and I could list a whole bunch more too. If he can stick at 3rd with at least average D and hit .265/.330/.500 with 30 hr's on a yearly basis he will be just fine. Great move by Rick. Balta knows that, it's just the worry that those k's equal a hole in his swing that gets exposed at the major league level. -
Ya it's definitely the kids can play part 2 or however he wants to go about saying that.

The way Hahn is doing things I wouldn't be surprised if Viciedo is the next one gone for some type of high ceiling/hasn't been very good yet catcher. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) They already have one named Daniel Webb. Well Webb and/or Petricka can certainly do it, they just haven't proven anything yet so I'm not going to say they're there yet. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Worth stressing that he does have the stuff to be significantly better than those numbers. They've clearly been impacted at least by him tiring out, esp. at the end of 2012 during his rookie season. He was definitely learning how to be a better pitcher in 2013 and that could be seen quite readily if you watched him. (That said, this is still a fair deal, I just want to make sure Addy isn't downplayed too much). Relievers are relievers. I liked Addy but I'm sure this organization will churn out another Addison Reed or two this year. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) Davidson is probably the best 3rd base prospect in the minors that was actually available via trade (Sano and Bryant aren't going anywhere) For a freakin reliever! I can't remember the last time I've been this excited for a Sox trade. I absolutely love this. -

Trade Beckham for a starting catcher now!!! Kidding obviously but if Rick can acquire something at the catchers spot then I'm going to be one thrilled White Sox fan. Either way I'm actually very excited to watch this team now, didn't think that was going to happen going into the offseason. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) I'm going to game tonight. I got these tix a month ago. Was so pumped to see Rose back in person and hear him announced. Fast forward a month and I'm going to watch a game with Jeff Teague starting and being backed up by DJ Augustin. Cruel, cruel world. Sorry bud, it just got worse...you got the wrong Teague!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) Every one of those I think could be accomplished except I really would worry about how you'd control Wilson right now. I haven't seen as much of the Seahawks as I'd like but from everything I've read the numbers he's put up this year are bordering on ridiculous. Besides being short he doesn't have a weakness as a quarterback, he's absolutely fantastic.

Moment of silence for the release of Mike James. Thank you.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) The only way I see it happening is because of a key injury or two on the Seahawks. You don't go into the home of the top rated defense and beat them. Not when they're healthy. It's going to be difficult, like insanely difficult especially cause Wilson is so damn smart. Like I said, if it happens watch for it to be cause of a Skittles fumble that leads to a td for the other team. They're as unbeatable as a team has ever been at home but they're still not flawless, they can lose somehow, someway.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) And McCown didn't benefit from some of those too. GMAFB. Josh wouldn't have been able to get the ball down there. Same thing with the back to back PI and illegal contact calls in the 2nd half(I forget exactly when it was), Cutler literally got them some points just by having a big arm.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) I realize anything can happen but the Bears winning at Seattle is a pipe dream. Keep getting excited about squeaking by the likes of Cleveland. I'm a bigger Seahawks fan than Bears fan and I'd pick the Hawks at home 99 times out of 100 but there's always that one time(the little giants taught me that), you just never know.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) If Carolina takes care of business at home, it would be the Saints as the wild card. Yup, good call. And honestly, I'd rather see the Saints than Panthers in the playoffs if I were a Bears fan.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 15, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) Sorry to hear that. I know the feeling of being caught in the middle and being a liaison. It's annoying and unfair. Ha I appreciate it but it is what it is. This keeps getting more fun though. Dad pissed at aunt, aunt pissed at step mom and step brother, cousin pissed at step brother. Supposedly just vicious emails, texts and calls going back and forth. I've just started ignoring every text and call I'm getting from everyone.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) We have to hope that the addition of Briggs and maybe Tillman in the playoffs would help stop the run a little. Ratcliff seems to be improving the d-line. Safeties are still awful though. They'll have to score their way through the playoffs. Can you do that on the road at Seattle? The answer here is probably not but it's not impossible. I love love love Marshawn Lynch but he has fumbling issues, if they are somehow beat at home it'll probably be because of that. I don't see their defense or Wilson losing them a game.
