QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) And in comes Law Holmes to be better than anything on the station and sit in with Spiegs. I never get tired of him. Is your signature there just to make everyone sad?

I certainly hope Mac doesn't take Carmen's spot, that'd be garbage.

Football Head Injuries
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) I wouldnt convince my kid to play football, but if they wanted to, I would let them. No point in living if our lives are just a padded cage. That would most likely be my choice as well as I'd be a huge hypocrite if I did otherwise.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) I actually like JorDanks a lot as the 4th OF. I liked him for that role when the inexplicably signed DWise again too. Danks the younger is a plus OF defender that handles all three slots well, runs well enough to be useful as a PR, he's got a little pop with the bat, and he costs the league minimum. Can't write a much better 4th OF profile than that. I hope they can find a way to trade De Aza, and don't do something stupid like sign another Wise/Tekotte or the like to take that spot. Jordan is a perfect 4th outfielder. I'm with you 100 percent.

Floyd Signs W/Braves (1yr deal)
Besides Sale being under .500 and Scherzer having an insane record I couldn't even tell you what other pitchers W-L looked like. It's absolutely meaningless to me. Oh and good luck Gavin. I feel that you became an extremely underrated pitcher around these parts and hope you do well in Atlanta.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) I also hate "look I'm traveling for work, and I had a BEER in the airport" I've traveled extensively for work for 7-8 years, there is nothing great about it at all. Ha my buddies and I did this when we went to NOLA for our buddy's bachelor party.

Football Head Injuries
I banged my head against the ground a ton playing basketball growing up and am positive at least one or two of those resulted in a concussion(insert "that explains a lot" joke).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) The absolute worst group of people on Facebook is teachers. They are always griping about their job, sharing articles that tell people "I work all summer" (you don't), and apparently think the world needs to know that they're home whenever it's Columbus Day or Christmas Vacation and all that bulls***. Having a family of teachers, they're the absolute worst. Just do your f***ing job and shut the f*** up. Do I b**** when website traffic is down? Do I post "today I'm NOT WORKING because I took one of my 15 VACATION days. No b****es, I f***ing don't. f*** off, all of them. Definitely agreed about teachers. Granted, most of the girls I hang out with are bat s*** crazy but a lot of them are teachers and complain about their job day in and day out. On a side note, we are all b****ing a lot today as well.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Did they do it with a clever picture of them and a bun in the oven, or perhaps a dog with a tshirt that says future big brother? Because I throw up on those. One of them I don't remember but one was a stocking that said "baby last name" and the other was their 2 year old saying "I'm going to be a big sister."

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) /end rant We never "announced" us having a baby on facebook and people were actually angry that we didnt. Ha ALL of my friends do that. Not including my Soxtalk friends, I've had 3 good friends knock up their wives this last year and they were all announced on Facebook. Two of them I knew beforehand and wasn't allowed to say anything to anyone and one of them I would have never known if it wasn't for FB and that was my best friend out of the bunch.

Sebastian Valle just got DFA'd
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) While it certainly appears he can't hit, catchers usually do take longer to find their way. It wouldn't kill the Sox to stash him in Charlotte. Ya, if at all doable go for it.

Ya the "would you let your kids play football" argument is an interesting one. If I ever had kids(don't worry world, not happening), I'm not sure where I'd fall on that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) I wonder by how much? I bet they have a good amount of money to work with but Hahn isn't going to sign a guy just to sign someone, and especially if they don't fit into the 3-5 year plan.

Football Head Injuries
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) I think "better/safer helmets" is a myth. You might be protecting the outside of the head, but the brain is still bouncing around the inside of the skull From what I've heard this is absolutely correct.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) So all the people who said "come on, Paulie has a role, look he'll be the platoon DH with Dunn since Dunn is so bad against lefties it makes sense" weren't telling the truth? He has a role but if he wasn't Paul Konerko he wouldn't have been re-signed, period.

Bruce Levine
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 08:23 AM) Look guys...we're not getting back anything useful for Dunn. If we chip in $10 million+ we might get back some no-name A-baller and that's going to require the Sox to chip in $10 million+. That's just how it's going to be. For crying out loud we signed an extra DH because we didn't feel Adam Dunn had that firm of a grasp on that position even. Oh c'mon now, re-signing PK had nothing to do with Adam Dunn.

Official 2013-2014 College Hoops Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) As an SIU grad, I lean towards this. It's funny but if you're a head coach, you should set a better example to college kids. If they were pros, I'd get more of a kick out of it. The program has been an absolute embarrassment for years now so whatever. Barry has also done this kind of stuff forever, maybe not to this extent but he's been a character forever. That being said, he's also known as one of the better guys around and a great ambassador for the sport and Valley. I'm not going to be embarrassed about him trying to give the team a kick in the ass, I am embarrassed at the continued horrendous play on the court with no sign of that changing.

Jonathan Mayo Mock Draft
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 05:46 AM) That is a very compelling argument, with which I totally agree. I don't know why people don't concur. Everyone talks about what a "crap shoot" the baseball amateur draft is, and then they proceed to insist that "you take the best available talent". "Best talent" based upon what exactly? Of course, it will be a while before some of the draftees would be ready to be added to the roster, and it's true that the roster could look very different. However, why continue to stock pile a particular position, when you might have a choice to add a player where there is an obvious dearth of future candidates in your organization? As long as there is no clear consensus as to who is the third best talent in the draft, why not pick one of the top candidates based, at least in part, upon perceived needs? Because even if you assume 3b or cf or whatever is take. Up for 5 years there's always a possibility that Eaton or Davidson bust. It'd be silly to not take a guy that you believe is the best player available because you think you have those spots filled, especially when you're probably looking 2-3 years down the road.

Jonathan Mayo Mock Draft
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 02:04 AM) I disagree. I think you draft for need when there is no consensus pick. If a consensus top 5 pick falls to pick 20, then you go ahead and take him. But if you are the #3 pick and mock drafts have 3-4 different names going there, you can pick based on position if your scouting reports have them all going that high. I mean, it's hard to compare a pitcher to a 1B, for instance. I 100 percent disagree. The odds of a draft pick being a starting major league player aren't very high no matter what pick you have. If you draft on need instead of who you think is the best available then you're furthering those odds. Just because there is no consensus nationally doesn't mean there's not a consensus in the Sox organization.
