QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) i wouldnt mind stacking the defense since our pitching should be lights out next year. . I'll 2nd this.

No way we have enough money for Dunn.

I would love nothing more for this team to make a run but it's just not going to happen. I'll follow every game and hope for the best but I'm expecting nothing but the worst.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I speculated at this earlier and it doesn't surprise me. I'm glad Kenny is doing this and I hope we see Dye and Thome moved. Maybe even Dotel or Liney. I'd dump Liney for absolutely anything. Maybe we can get something for Dye/Thome but it might be too late of notice, who knows.

Works for me. Thanks for the contributions but it's time to move on. Makes for an interesting few hours here as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) There was no reason to make the Peavy trade when we did, while he was on the DL. Dumb. That's an offseason type move. Rios has simply sucked. He better get his s*** in gear. He's not hit a lick. No, it's still a genius move. He bought low on an ace who is signed for 3 more season after this one. Btw, you should go check the numbers on some of those guys we've traded.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 01:27 AM) I still don't understand why people automatically want to see/or think Beckham as a number 3 hitter next year (Because Hawk said so?). I don't see it for a few years... Why through him into the fire that quick. Personally I don't think he's ready. Q at 3 next year IMO. I'm with ya. I think Gordo will eventually be a 3 hitter but for now he's best suited in the 2 spot, keep him there at least for next season.

The Kenny Williams job approval/disapproval poll
Rowand44 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My opinion: He's one of the best gm's in baseball. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) I gave "excuses" for two guys (and one is very legit IMO with Beckham). The rest of them are cases where we simply don't have adequate players. You can't blame Konerko, Thome, and Dye for being old, or Nix for being bad, or Pods reverting to the mediocre player he is. They are what they are. So was Kenny just supposed to trade Dye at the all star break? Nobody in the world could have predicted he'd fall off a f***in cliff here in the 2nd half after being productive every year he's been here and playing at an all start level the first half of the season. Pods is the least of our problems, Konerko is right in line with his career stats and I'll give you Thome but it's not like he's been terrible this season either. I really don't see how you can blame Kenny for any of those guys.

QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Really? He is the one who put this mediocre team together. Im not blaming him, but, to say that he shouldnt be blamed at all and if he is its funny doesn't make sense. If you were going to make a list at who should be held accountable for this teams performance ide prolly have it 1. The Players 2. KW 3. Ozzie Cause on paper it isn't a mediocre team, it's actually a pretty solid one. We have absolutely 0 holes in our lineup yet we can't score runs. Our bullpen looked like one of the best in the league coming into the season and for the first few months it was probably the best. All Kenny has done is add and add and add to this squad and for some reason we're getting worse and it's not because he's bringing in bad players. These assholes(ya, this is how I feel about these guys right now) pretty much quit for some f***in reason and that's on them and the coaching staff. And btw I know it's going to be brought up, but I definitely don't want Ozzie fired this season, I just think he's done a poor job this year. I feel like Kenny is the only one who actually did his job this season, that's why I feel like he doesn't deserve any blame.

I'd blame it on everyone except Kenny Williams. Putting any blame on him is quite funny to me actually.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) Why do I have to explain that? Are you trying to say Greg Walker has had a direct impact on the hitting in April and August? If so, thats pretty damn crazy. 2008 6th 2007 28th 2006 3rd 2005 13 2004 3rd 2003 12 Outide of the awful year in 2007, the Sox have been on the top end of the teams in the MLB in runs the last 6 years, finishing in the top 15 each year and the top 10 3 times, including 2 top 3 finishes. How can we explain THAT? Pretty simple actually cause your stats are skewed. If things stay the way that they are this year, we will have finished in the bottom half of the American League in runs scored for 4 of his 7 years(more telling to look at the AL stats compared to all of baseball considering the whole DH vs. Pitcher thing). Granted, that doesn't say that he's the worst hitting coach ever but it also shows that we've been a below average offense for over half his tenure here. And once again, I don't think getting rid of him is magically going to cure everything but I'd also guarantee that it wont hurt. If it jump starts the team for a little bit then it'd be well worth it imo. Not to mention that Kenny has already pretty much sent out a threat to the players and a firing might just show them that he isn't f***ing around.

AJ's a winner, plain and simple. Gotta love the guy.

Trading Allen wasn't a mistake(people are wayyyyyyy overrating him right now imo), trading him for Tony Pena was a mistake though.

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) I hate to be down on this team because theyre so good on paper and I still have that hope they run off 9 in a row and then sweep the Tigers to take the thing but there is no way they bounce back from what happened this week. The teams we lost to last week and how we've lost the games this week by just blowing up is going to be too much to overcome. I think KW and AJ are right. I was one of the people who openly supported a firesale 2 years ago after 2006 when we won 90 and didnt make the playoffs. I figured Detroit and Minnesota would both hover around 90 wins+ and we'd finish third with our fading bunch of veterans and needed to sell them for youth because of the shape of our farm at that time. We lucked out and finished way worse than third - netting us Beckham. Danks and Floyd have obviously emerged to become very good players. Quentin, if he is healthy, can hopefully join that mix. Last season was a blast. The new acquisitions this year of Peavy and Rios have backed me off Kenny for being a blithering idiot and not getting youth for our veterans because he managed to do it without dealing them and I didnt think it was possible. But at this point. It's sink or swim for our vets. I dont care what Thome's OPS, I don't care that Jermaine Dye was hitting close to .300 until the All-Star break and I certainly don't give two flying tummy tucks about Jenks or anyone in that bullpen (minus Matty). If this team doesn't take this thing - then their run has ended. They no longer need or want to be here. Their is no passion out of these guys. Say what you want about Ozzie or young players but you needthat fire. Dye, Kong, Thome are too professional, too emotionless, and just seem dead right now. Maybe they don't care, maybe theyre worn down because theyre old, I don't know. I will say this. I watched David Ortiz, a guy who gets the same treatment as Thome with the shift, try to bunt the ball away from that shift last night. Maybe I am wrong again but I don't think I've ever seen Jim Thome try and even present that he was thinking about doing it. Not Jim Thome - I'm going to hit 600 homers. I don't show bunt so that it festers in the back of someones mind. And same goes for Dye. It's like this Rios thing has made him even worse because he feels like he deserves better. Play for you life - like a guy like Podsednik is doin. If you told me one of those two are coming back next season then I want Podsednik. Dye is playing like Carlos Lee did here when he refused to play for the team. Last night he pulled his head out on every swing trying to hit a homer. Put the damn ball in play. Sorry for the rant. Needed to be said. Get rid of these bums if they dont step up. Plain and simple. Awesome, awesome post.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) Why not fire Coop? Why isn't Contreras struggling, Buehrle struggling, Dotel, Linebrink, Pena and to a lesser degree Jenks struggling and Thornton's recent struggles on him? The Sox have had several injuries, maybe they should change the trainer. 2nd in the American League in ERA, 10th in runs scored. That's a poor argument out of you. I feel like I've said this every year of my life now but I don't think firing Walker is going to help that much but it sure as hell isn't going to hurt this club. Even if it just wakes up the offense for a week or so(and that's happened several times after a hitting coach gets fired) then it could be a huge boost to this teams playoff chances.

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) I just fear this is our Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell trade. I feel like I've heard this a million times about one of Kenny's trades. It hasn't happened yet, and I highly doubt Allen is the guy. I guess we'll have to wait and see but it's nothing to get upset about, yet. And as saying we should be haunted by his success, he hasn't had any yet so there's nothing to be haunted about.

Gracias. Had an interesting night last night to say the least, hope I can top it tonight.

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) what to expect when you go to SIU? ......look into the "i'm drunk" thread. that's pretty much it. I'm surprised you didn't mention random passed out people in your bed.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 03:53 AM) you mean drink, don't you? According to RowRow, thats all there is to do is drink. You sign up for class, and you get grades, but you just drink. Drink drink drink. Oh there's more to do, that's just all I do. As far as what to expect, a college town is all I can say I guess. It's a lot different than Chicago, you might have a bit of culture shock at first but you'll definitely learn to love it here, you can have a lot of fun in this city, that's for sure.
