  1. Fields has really pounded the ball the last few days. His average is up to .255 now with a .759 ops on the year. Pretty damn solid for a rook, even with all the k's. Keep it up, Josh.
  2. Yup, BP's morons make one little prediction and the world is over for us Sox fans. I'm not high on Gio and honestly don't think he's going to turn into much but to say his ceiling is that of a 3 starter is just wrong, imo.
  3. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) It looks like Russell is pitching much better in relief. He has a shot at the bullpen next year. If he can beat out powerhouses Dewon Day and Buttvich He's certainly got the arm to be a solid reliever, lets see if he can adjust to doing so.
  4. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Hmmmm. Wonder where they would fit them in there. Upper bowl obviously. Ya, I'm not really sure. That seems to be the one question mark at this point.
  5. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:23 AM) I don't care that in 2004 he hit 26 homers. This year, especially if you take away a 4 for 4 game, he's been brutal. I don't want him. He strikes out at an alarming rate. Ugh. Prior to this season, he's had 3 years in a row where he's posted ops' over .800. If he gets consistant ab's I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to post a + .800 ops for a season. Yes he has his weaknesses, but with as many holes as this team has, if you can find a productive bat for a middle reliever then you have to do so. EDIT: Actually, in 05 he posted a .796 ops, my bad. Still very solid.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:28 AM) I went though 1986-1989 as a Sox fan. This is nothing. Oh it's something. How you can go from being one of the best teams of all time to this in a 2 year span is pretty mind boggling.
  7. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) Willy Mo Pena? OMG! Why?? What a good for nothing bum. I think he's already seen his best years and that's not saying much. Unless he'd be coming for some of our worst bullpen garbage acquiring him makes no sense to me at all. Under no circumstance is he needed. He's 25 and in limited time he's already posted decent numbers. The guy has ridiculous power potential, if we can get him for a bullpen arm, I'd jump all over it. The only thing that I don't like about him is he's only signed through 08.
  8. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Yeah really. What other reason do we all seem to hate Owens for, and other players who suck? When it comes to baseball, you hate the guys because of how they play baseball, and in this case, it's perfectly normal to hate Contreras Jose Contreras by all accounts is one nice human being. Not to mention the guy has been through a hell of a lot in his career. Oh ya, he was also one of the more important reasons as to why that 05 team has a nice shiny ring.
  9. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) I kinda like it. I've never seen those commercials until reading this thread, but they're just trying to have a little fun showing how anything can happen when you control what happens. Thanks man.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) Why would I hate Jose Contreras? I hate the way he's pitched for the past 370 days or so but I can't find a reason to hate the guy. That.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Meh, call me when they hit up Hilton for #1 Kansas at #2 Iowa State in three years. Laughs out loud.
  12. From Tom Weber who is the director of media services for SIU athletics.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) He's going to want that, but with so many quality OF's available in FA this off-season, I think a Juan Pierre deal (5/45) is probably more likely. So would people here take Byrnes at 9M per season? I'd prefer not to. The problem is, I think we're going to have to overpay for at least one outfielder this offseason.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6068 Other than that, there's the fact that only one man believes in Gavin Floyd's future as a major league stud or even average pitcher, and that man's the same one who loved Jon Adkins, too. I guess you forgot that I despise BP more than anything.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) You know me so well. but there's far more reason to hope for Haeger than there is for Floyd. Far more reason. Like?
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) Most would, but the bandwagon season ticketholders are more likely to renew the other way around. If 20% drop out, does the payroll drop 20%? That would really, really suck. Honest question, do you really think we'd lose that many season ticket holders from 11 loses that mean nothing? You're probably right, but it's an interesting thought.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) There are no more prospects to promote unless you're ready to see Ryan Sweeney again. Richar and Sweeney should both be up here, imo. I'm not ready to hand either of them a spot on next years team but at least we can get some idea if either of them are ready.
  18. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) The Leinart one is worse. He scrambled like 50 yards on the last play of the game and couldn't be caught by anyone in Texas' secondary. Right. Haha, correct. But I actually wanted USC to win that game, so that one doesn't bug me as much.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) That means absof***inglutley nothing. . God, I am so sick of people mentioning the draft position in the MLB Draft But winning games to stay out of last place means everything.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) I HATE THAT COMMERCIAL.
  21. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) They are def. the guys who give you the most hustle on every play. If the Sox signed both guys, I would be a total favorite of those moves cuz we would never be let down on bloop hits. Byrnes and A-Row give you 120% each play, anyone else in favor>? That's a crapload of money right there. There's a possibility that we sign one of them, but not a chance we sign both.
  22. I've always wondered what would have happened with Willie if him and Maggs didn't collide.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) Ned Yost is not a good manager. He just let Villanueva walk the bases loaded with 2 outs, and kept him in the game. A wild pitch and broken bat single later, and the Brewers are down 2. The Cubs are about to be 2.5 back, and they have all the momentum in the world. What a terrible, terrible day of baseball. They'll lose their "momentum." Momentum in baseball can change on one swing. The best the Cubs do this year is make the playoffs and lose in the first round, nothing for you to get all worked up about.
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) Suck it. Hehe. He's good.
  25. Strikeout, pop out are my predictions for the next 2 ab's.
