QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:25 AM) Apperciate it Rowand. It seems like it was only yesterday that me and you were going up against Brando and Wite in our 2004 Cubs wars. Obviously we were right. lol. Oh the good ol' days. Haha.

White Sox Winner!
Unfortunately the most important part of this game is that Garland is starting to hurt his trade value in the offseason.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) Apparently to lots of Sox fans, enough is never enough when it comes to Gavin Floyd. Riiiiight. 14 innings surely is enough for anybody.

Charlie Haeger Sent Down
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) because depending on a knuckleball is like depending on cheesy pickup line to pickup a girl - you know it'll be there, but you don't know if it will work. How long did it take you to come up with that one?

White Sox Loser Thread
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Verlander did not turn that franchise around at all. I give more credit to the alien that took over Carlos Guillen's body There has to be some type of alien living in Polanco's head, this I know.

8/1 Games
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Ricks isnt a non prospect but hes not much of a prospect at this point. It'd be nice to see him do well though. He was drafted as a 2B out of the U, and he's been bouncing around the infield ever since. I have no idea how his catcher D is. He's a non prospect.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) He's given up 8 homers in 14 innings. His ERA is over 10.00. I don't think that spot is earned. He's pitched 14 innings. He more than earned his spot down in Charlotte. Argue minor league numbers all you want but there was no one more deserving than him, period.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) He also actually was halfway decent in the majors in 2004, but has gone backwards ever since. He's a bust. He would be in Charlotte right now if he were acquired for Lance Broadway, and not 1 person on this board would be saying give him the ball every 5th day for the rest of the season. He was by far and away the best pitcher in Charlotte. I don't get how you can say that.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Since Floyd has 125 innings under his belt, why don't we give Haeger the same opportunity? Why tax the other pitchers. Let them rotate some time off and save themselves for next year. Don't we have to see what we have in him too? While were at it, lets bring up the entire Knights pitching staff. Because Gavin actually earned his spot on the team, Haeger has not.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) If his ERA is over 10.00 you will blow out the bullpen and lessen the possibility of winning the games Floyd doesn't pitch batting practice in. On the other side of the coin, what if he has an ERA around 6.00 in these meaningless games. Is that good enough to count on him for next year? It is over 1.00 under his career ERA. Who cares? Honestly, does it matter if we blow out this fantastic bullpen and lose more games? And no, if his era is 6 then he goes back to Charlotte or is let go or something but you have to see what he's got. Two spot starts isn't going to prove one way or another what he's capable of.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) I'm sure Kenny understands that Floyd is old for his league and his league is bad. I'd bet that being 24 isn't that old for his league. The league is indeed bad but he did end up dominating it where as Mr. Haeger's era was about 2.5 runs higher(off the top of my head). Like it or not, Floyd is by far the best option we have at this point to receive starts down the stretch and there is absolutely no reason for him not to be in the rotation.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) For all the people that like this move, I am curious about something, if Floyd continues to pitch like he has shown, how many starts do you give him until you do pull the plug? When is enough enough? Unless the organization decides Egbert is ready, you give him the rest of the season. It certainly doesn't hurt and I know you and G.Pratt are especially against him but there is no reason not to let him pitch out the rest of the season.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) If he were a second round pick or he was acquired for someone not as high-profiled as Freddy Garcia, he would be Charlotte filler. Not with the numbers he put up in Charlotte this year, he would have no doubt gotten a chance to pitch in Chicago.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 8/01/07 (L)
QUOTE(soxfaninpa @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) If the talent on the major league team disgusts you, you should see our hitters at charlotte. I got to see them play a couple of games here against scranton when erstad and pods were there together. Has anyone seen their backup catcher Ryan Smith's career numbers? We really need some talent close to the majors and we have crap for position players anywhere higher than winston-salem. I'm in awe of all the pitching that this team constantly drafts and acquires via trades while completely ignoring trying to get an impact hitter. Paul Konerko and Jim Thome aren't getting any younger, and JD is not a long term solution. Actually, Jim Thome is indeed getting younger. Not sure how it's happening but it is.

Official NFL Thread
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) Help! I was talking to my uncle down in Southern Illinois and he asked me about the Bears. I told him they should be top 3 in the NFC, possible best in the NFC and he went off on me saying that the Bears didn't get better after the Super Bowl. I brought up Darwin Walker and the drafting of Greg Olsen and he never heard of them. He thinks Stephen Jackson will be the MVP this year. The Rams fans down here are drooling over Orlando Pace losing a bunch of weight and Bulger being re-signed. Plus they were missing a lot of their starting unit in the superbowl, defensively. The Bears are hands down the best team in the NFC.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) I don't think rest is his problem. He has taken to nibbling at the corners, and working from behind because of it. Any major leaguer will kill a pitch when he knows what is coming. Tis part of growing up as a pitcher. He's still only 22 and iirc he basically skipped aaa. Hopefully our fans don't try to run him out the door anytime soon. I'm not enamored by his stuff but he should be a pretty solid pitcher for us for the next 5 years. EDIT: Looks like I remembered incorrectly.

Floyd Replaces Contreras in Rotation
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) What has Haeger done to deserve innings? Floyd's been bad, but Chuck hasn't been a heckuva lot better. And at least one of the two pitchers was able to get AAA hitters out consistently this season... Haeger will see his innings, especially with Danks on a bit of a slide. On a side note, Danks' ERA is now just .12 points higher better than B-Mac's. Not saying the trade was a bad one, just that it shows you the different directions the two pitchers are heading in. Ya, Floyd needs to get his shot now. Haeger is never going to be anything. Contrary to popular belief, Floyd still has a shot, we need to see what he can do. Danks has been pretty mad since May it seems.

Kris Honel Retired?
I wish Kris the best of luck in whatever he pursues now. It's really a shame because he did have some talent but he just couldn't get over the injury bug.
