  1. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) Why do so many people think Aaron Rowand will not cash in significantly this offseason? He is beloved in Chicago and Philly by both fans and teammates. His numbers this year have been outstanding. He is getting a fat paycheck unless he decides to give a hometown discount to the Phils or Sox. I know he loves Chicago and Ozzie, but there has to be a tipping point with respect to salary. Kenny loves him and he loves the Sox, that's why most people believe we'll make a serious run at him. I'm starting to shift towards your belief though, he'll make too much money and end up elsewhere.
  2. The O's don't like trading, they're scared of it.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 02:46 AM) I know how you feel about this, and while there are plenty of examples of first round busts, there is certain talent only available to those with a Top 10 pick -- Joe Mauer, Mark Texiera, BJ Upton, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, Rickie Weeks, Nick Markakis, Justin Verlander, Ryan Zimmerman, Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew Miller, Tim Lincecum, etc. My position is, you can't draft any of the aforementioned names without having the opportunity. Selecting around 20-25 may ultimately provide a team with some tremendous talent, but the difference between there and a Top 10 is obviously the players you can scout. I guarantee the White Sox didn't believe Jarrod Parker or David Price would be available at #25. Does it really matter whether the team wins 72 (a potential top 10 pick) or 80 (somewhere around 15)? Just having a larger field of players to evaluate and assess is something which could be beneficial to our future. Yes, we may (and probably will) screw it up; but I want the opportunity. Full agreement with Flash.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) Signing some players through free agency. Trying to find anythng Jose can do to help this ballclub in any way. Trying to build on a solid pitching staff and improving the bullpen. Best to try and build on our strengths and patch up our weaknesses until the market makes it more prudent to rebuild. But right now it's forcing a square peg in a round hole, and we lose a ton of value if we take .70 cents on the dollar. If Kenny and Ozzie weren't so stubborn we could have ridded ourselvs of JC about a month and a half ago when he at least had some value. Garland and Vaz's value at this point is not going to get any higher and we sat on both of them instead of getting rid of one them when they're both at peak value. Either of them could have brought in a nice young package of talent but nope they're still both members of the Sox. Dye needed to be dealt, Kenny needed to find the best package possible for him and pull the trigger. This team is in bad, bad shape right now for 08 and we really had a chance to at least infuse the organization with some talent and we did squat. Kenny f***ed up big time.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) He'll likely clear waivers immediately, which means at that point the Sox are free to negotiate with any team IIRC. I'm not saying it will happen, but all it takes is one or two good starts or him to find ihs velocity (yes its not likely, but it is possible) and at that point you can still get a good prospect or two for him (of course this prospect would have to most likely not be on the 40 man roster because otherwise he would have to clear waivers to get to Chicago, albeit there aren't many teams worse than the Sox). Don't get your hopes up, my friend. We're stuck with Jose.
  6. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) I am guessing in Ames, Iowa you don't share an office with a bunch of obnoxious cubs fans who give you s*** every day about the Cubs being in/near first and the Sox sharing the cellar with the Royals. Personally I agree that they don't have legs in the playoffs but I would have said the same thing about the Cards last year..if Lilly/Marquis turn into Weaver/Suppan for two weeks in October stranger things can happen...and no one else in the NL seems close to dominating. All I wish is if we could have a box score where all the pitchers in the games ERAs aren't over 5.40...it is amazing to think it has come to this. Well I'm from the North Suburbs and I couldn't care less about the Cubs either. If they lose...great, if they win...oh well.
  7. Damaso's career would have continued to slide if he stayed in Chicago, he's no loss.
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Yeah, cuz there are no players on this team playing well. Like Buehrle, Vazquez, Konerko, Thome...nope...not a one. And we still have 20 bajillion holes for next season. Dye needs to go, I'm sorry but I don't want just two draft picks that will end up being busts because we can't draft. We need to find the best package for Jermaine and let him go. No, we might not get superstar players in return but I guarantee you we could at least get two players back who can fill some of these empty spots for next season. Garland needs to be traded as well because he CAN bring back some heavy talent but Kenny is too damn stubborn to trade him. In conclusion, we're not going to make any deal and we're going to hear Kenny's bullcrap that it takes two to tango or what not and we're going to be f***ed next season.
  9. Torres Roundtree has decomitted from SIU for now. He says SIU is still the front runner but I'd bet money that he'll end up somewhere else now. God damn it.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) Correct, He will do nothing and sell it as if we can win.. I called it back in May that this team was finished and needed to be rebuilt.. I don't think KW is the man who can do it. You're awesome.
  11. Ya, this sucks.
  12. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:35 AM) From today's Sun-Times: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...trade31.article Sign me up. I'm sorry but I just don't trust this organization enough for compensation picks to be the only thing we get for Jermaine. If you receive Wily Mo and Delcarmen at least you're filling two holes with one deal for next season. I still think given some consistant time that Wily Mo is going to be a pretty damn good hitter. If Kenny feels this is the best he can do, then he needs to pull the trigger and I'll be satisfied with this deal.
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 04:43 AM) Caption this photo: "Those Scott Podsednik outfield, training vidoes are not working."
  14. Barring injuries, I really can't see the Bears not getting back to the superbowl.
  15. I think it's time to open a Schuerholz love forum for Pratt.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) why must you ruin my night? Because I'm not feeling that well so I thought I could ruin someone else's night as well. Seriously though, I'd love for that deal that you mentioned to happen, but it's not going to, it's just not.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) I'm a big Jon fan and would want him to stay, but if we could get Kershaw, Hu, and Betemit for him, I would be so freaking happy... Not happening.
  18. I must side with SSI71 on this one.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) If it weren't the night before the trading deadline, I probably would have agreed. What sense would it make -- if an organization was concerned with Kershaw -- to have him projected as the starter, go through the entire routine to prepare, pitch one inning, then remove him without a high pitch count or being hit around? And, then soon after, suggest injuries weren't related to the removal? I guess we'll find out fairly soon. The Dodgers just can't sit on this all night. I agree, it really doesn't make any sense and all signs point to a trade but for whatever reason, I don't think he's going anywhere.
  20. I still doubt Kershaw gets dealt. Just a hunch I guess.
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) perhaps they havent updated it yet... how many people here would get a hard if we traded Garland but recieved Kershaw, Hu, and Betemit in return? Not happening. I'd be thrilled, not happening.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Could Dye get Kershaw (i wouldn't think so, plus he's a bit lower level of a prospect) but he is obviously uper talented and would definitely be the blue chipper Williams has been looking for. Would Kershaw and maybe Betemeit be doable (s*** I wouldn't care as long as we got Kershaw, but again, I don't see how that would help the Sox next year and Kenny probably wants a move that helps them next year, unless the deal also involves other guys that help the Sox out...ie a bigger deal involving Garland and Dye). The Dodgers wouldn't be stupid enough to give up Kershaw for Dotel would they? I just really can't see them trading Kershaw, that's why I'm thinking it has to be an injury.
  23. I'll bet he's injured, but ya, quite interesting.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) KW= one year wonder Ryan= Constant Winner.. I have a ton of respect for Terry Ryan but I'll take KW's "one year wonder" year over Terry Ryan's consistant winning.
  25. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Why in the world would we trade Jenks for prospects? I'm kinda feeling like Jenks=Lee Smith. That reliable closer for the next ten years. He's on his third year of doing this job so successfully. Seems like a true relief ace is one of the hardest pieces to find...we have him, he's young and cheap. Sure he can look shaky at times...but I think his save percentage is great considering his young. Unless we can trade him for an Albert Pujols prospect...you don't trade (and by the way...who would trade an AP type prospect...accept, you know, us...go look at Chris Young play CF in 2008...sniff, sniff). Uh ya, Chris Young is talented but not THAT talented.
