Dye deserves 2006 AL MVP Award
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) Either your reading is deplorable, or you just misunderstood my quote. I'll elaborate. Give him two more years. He'll be the best catcher in the league, maybe even the best hitter. He's a dime a dosen. He is just like Pujols. These guys come around at their respected positions once-twice every decade. Ace, I think you're confused.

Dye deserves 2006 AL MVP Award
To be honest, I think the mvp should be JD or Morneau depending on which team gets into the playoffs. Like I said though, with the Red Sox continuing to fade, Jeter is a virtual lock imo.

Playoff Chances
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) The system was flawed in that the Sox had a 3 game lead over CLE with 3 to play, so it wouldn't declare the Sox AL Central champions. The Sox were AL Central champs at that moment because, even if they lost 3 straight Cleveland would only tie, and there was a series going on to decide the AL East. If NY or BOS won 3 to keep pace with CLE the other would have to lose and remove them from the wild card. And the Sox would be declared AL Central champs based on their H-2-H record with CLE. With three games left to play, there was a 3% chance that the Sox would have been in a 3-way tie, that's all it was saying, since it's not programed include tie-breakers. They literally did say something like "just because mlb says the White Sox have won the central doesn't mean they really have" in the article though.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Keith, go as much as you can the next few weeks. Look like your serious about the class. You will find out if you think you can do the class without actually going or not, and it will be much easier. Also, dont screwed with a teacher taking attendance. You dont want to miss 4 or 5 classes, then show up the next day and be dropped... Ya, listen to Tony, dont take my advice on ditching classes. You can do it if you figure out which teachers take attendance, when all your quizes and tests are going to be and if you can find notes from elsewhere. You'll be able to figure out yourself which lectures you can miss and which ones you can't. EDIT: I'd like to take a moment and say that I officially hate heads as he thought I was attending U of I.

Hilarious! Red Sox Boards.
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) No, we are not. I have absolutely 0 confidence in the White Sox but no one in their right mind can tell me that the Red Sox are in just as good of a position as the White Sox. That makes no sense.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) that would freak me out...too many variables to get screwed. It worked out real well last year to be honest, did my best in school since like 7th grade. Like snb said, it's basically knowing which classes you can get away with not going to. Lectures for the most part are pointless to me cause notes are on the internet a lot of times or whatever. Just cram the night before a test and you can get by.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) there seem to be 3 tracts in college: 1)The kids that go to class but don't buy the books cause they realize the teacher just goes over the s*** in class. 2)The kids that don't go to class but know the books by heart cause they know that the teacher just goes over that s*** in class 3) And me, the kid whose too scared to do either this early in his career. I personally barely go to any of my lectures and just buy my books when I need them, last semester I actually only bought half my books. I do go to all my labs and such though, so that definitely helps. It's working so far, so I shall keep doing it.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(loltrain @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) If he stayed in the minors he would either: Pitch in relief and completely dominate A ball (he's already doing that) or Be shutdown for the season He's not losing any development time, and it is generally believed that he can get big league left handers out right now. Edit: Seriously, "getting alot more innings down in the minors" is about the worst thing I can imagine, we really don't need another Kenny Baugh. I'll just say there is a good shot that he gets knocked around right away. If that does happen then there is also a decent chance that he can get pretty effected mentally, thus setting back his development back a few years. I'm not saying that's going to happen but there is definitely a chance.

96 wins will get you into the AL playoffs
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) This is going to be a huge prediction, but I predict the Tigers miss the playoffs. I think they go 10-19, the Sox go 20-12 and the Twins go 21-12. That is what I think happens. The Sox win the Wild Card and the Twins win the division. I think Minny catches them but they hold us off down the stretch. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Seriously though, the college hoops games are actually my favorite video games around. I get so addicted to this every year when it comes out.

No Surprise: Dye = AL Player of the Week
- College Life
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) My first week of college life was awesome! All I did was go out and party every night, and go to class of course. That's one thing I'm definitely gonna do: go to class. I'm gonna try really hard not to fall into the trap of missing class. Classes have gone really well so far, though. I feel pretty good about all of them. But, anyway, I've just had a lot of fun w/ my roommates and just hanging out being able to do whatever I want. And, rush week starts today, so we'll see shortly if I'll be joining a frat or not. Oh, and we play Cal this week, so I'm really excited about that game. It should be a blast. Overrated. But seriously, there are definitely ways to get around going to class in college and still get good grades.- Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) So it's October then? The outlook isn't good...but the season's not over, they're a half a game back of Minnesota in the Wild Card, and are still only 5.5 back of Detroit. This team is playing really good baseball right now...they're just not friggin winning the games. Almost all of that is on the pitching. We have to pitch. If we don't pitch, we are screwed. I say just wait it out and see where this team is come October 1. If we're not in the playoffs, than it's a huge disappointment, even if the Sox win 97 games. Like I've said before, I will never give up on any White Sox team, ever. That being said, I have 0 confidence in this team and don't expect them to make the postseason and if they do, I expect a 1 and done.- Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) He's the real deal. I think he can do well. Oh he's the real deal but bringing someone up just months after being drafted could prove to be a huge mistake. And yes I know that he has that clause in his contract but there is a possibility that this callup could really hinder his development.- Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) True. Then again, I find it difficult to feel that disappointed in a team that's been marred with mediocre/inconsistent starting pitching and stuck in third place in an ultra-competitive division, yet is still on pace to win 95 games and is only a half game out of the Wild Card lead. I guess that's one way to look at it. Or you can look at it that at the beginning of the year this rotation was being billed as one of the best ever. Or you can look at it, that from an individual player stand point this is the most talented roster in baseball. I've said it before but anything less than a world series championship from this team is a disappointment. Unfortunately, we're all going to be disappointed come October.- College Life
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) I'm doing okay so far in my first week. I've been here five days or so. Mainly, I like the freedom. I can come "home" at 2:30 and not hear a word about it or explain where I was to anybody. I'm also liking my class schedule. Mondays, I'm pretty much in class from ten-to-noon, and I'm done. That's my Friday, too, more or less. Tuesdays and Thursdays suck for me, but even then, it's just three classes -- one of which, my 8 AM one, doesn't even require mandatory attendence (or, that's what I was told -- that I could still get an 'A' just by reading the book). What sucks so far? Small dorms at McCormick here at Marquette. Pretty much all the dorms are bigger than this place. The food in this specific dorm ain't special, either; the food at the other places (dorms) are much better. And I haven't done laundry yet, although I'll take a guess and say that that'll be a pain in the ass (I'm on floor nine, and the laundromat is in the basement). The lack of a football team is something I'll have to adjust to, but it's not terrible. I can still hold my allegiance to the Northwestern football team, and switch over once basketball season starts. Overall, I'm having a good time so far, and I'm looking forward to the year. I'm pretty impressed you survived your first weekend.- 96 wins will get you into the AL playoffs
