  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) I don't want to ruin the 500 homer thread, so I'll say this here. Sportscenter has been on for half an hour now, and there hasn't even been the slightest mention of Thome's milestone. I don't like to use this term too often, but this is a disgrace. This is an absolute disgrace and I am personally offended that they show absolutely no respect to a man as great as Thome. The guy is a saint in a sport full of scumbags, cheaters, and ego-maniacs. But f*** that, I want to know what Bill Belichick is going to do now that he's been fined half a million dollars. ESPN continues to sink lower and lower. Honestly, weren't ARod and even Big Frank's at bats shown live when they were going for it? Now this was a walkoff, that's insane, you can't script it any better, and it's buried in the news stories of ESPN.com, I checked after it happened and there wasn't even a breaking news alert or anything, finally after a little bit they listed it as like the 3rd news story on their list. How can you blame them though when even the local media have it at least 3rd on their priority list
  2. Big comeback going on right now for the Yankees against Boston, I hope they sweep Mlb.tv doing a 5 day free trial (you need a credit card though (maybe a Visa gift card will work?) and cancel yourself by emailing them before the trial ends) for the rest of the month
  3. Saw some previous pages talking about the Hall spring training thing. I have to agree with them, didn't think that was necessary with Mackowiak already on the team. Some others have mentioned Erstad, hell, worst case scenario, Thome can handle it. 1B backup was the least of my worries.
  4. interesting timing with no team in baseball having a worse record. I don't have big problems with Ozzie though, will never completely agree with a manager, but I thought this was his worst year. Anderson as DH? Even Hawk criticized him heavily during one game on defensive alignment as a team (Cle?) just took us to school on bad strategy. For Hawk to say it...
  5. that was fun, mmmm, brazilian women. A great atmosphere and very cool to see some of the game's top players
  6. Could care less, your favorite player probably does it too, even though this still doesn't show he did it after it was banned. I really must laugh at you if you still support the sport and haven't accepted the reality yet, you shouldn't be shocked, even if it came out about ARod or even Frank Thomas (my fav player by the way). Albert Pujols, from Brooklyn streets straight to MLB superstar? Wasn't Ortiz basically cut by the Twins? Then he becomes surefire MVP candidate overnight. Etc OMGZ it was illegal, so is what a lot of ball players do in their free time, some of which may also "enhance" performance during a game.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) I dont understand the draw of that. I mean, you have to go into a coffee shop, and then can surf the web on your ipod? Is that a huge benefit for some people. I have a treo that surfs the web everywhere on the EV-Do network, is this really that different from what this ipod will be able to do only in hotspots? No data plan charges or monthly subscription Good for me in class since the school has wifi, I don't want to lug around my laptop, and I can keep track of games since I have a lot of night classes But fock Apple, I am plenty happy with TMobile Dash (yes, also with Wifi ), I would probably get annoyed with a touch screen anyways
  8. 05-06 Sox vs 06-07 Tigers? Well, at least we won the WS
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) Just watched the game highlights on Comcast, and I had no idea that Hart had botched that liner in the 2nd inning to lead to the huge inning. Two other comments are that the 2 strike pitch to Hart in the 7th inning wasn't even close to being a strike, and the pitch Mench grounded out on to end the game was a massive meatball. The Brewers and Cardinals have good pitching matchups this wknd, hopefully they can both sweep. I only saw that top of the 7th inning, that was a joke of a call, and it was huge too, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, verrry wide/generous zone. I hate when umpires get caught up in calling what the home crowd wants to see
  10. Does Hangar still post here? I was a fan of his. Anyways, I hate the Cubu, err Tribune. The last 3 Bears preseason games, the Cubs lost, and the main story on Chicagosports.com was always the Bears game ( last week they lost and the Bears were still on top, and didn't even play, it was just a lame story), now tonight, the Cubs win and are the main story. Also, when the Sox had a decent winning streak, they were under NBDL articles or linked with Barry Bonds articles. Yes I need some poon, but the good news is college starts soon
  11. Haha I was up around 4 am and Ch5 had something like 'Lost your Lamborghini? Car crash scene abandoned this morning on the Edens expressway?' running on the bottom of the screen, then I heard later on it was him, too bad that $7 mill might not have been enough to feed his family
  12. My best resource is half.com , I literally got most of my books for half price. Note though, it's basically the same as Ebay, so be sure to check feedback and all that. Amazon is next for me. They have a marketplace too but I haven't really used that. If you use Amazon.com, use the code TB7CHASE for 10% ($20 limit), I think it goes for another month. Mainly for newer books that don't have cheaper versions used online, but still slightly cheaper than the bookstore. Worse comes to worst, I use the bookstore, mainly for the really new editions where it's hard to find cheaper. EDIT: And you never know, check a library, sometimes it's not a real textbook, or if you have a big library, they might have it anyways
  13. Well for Colon (I still give Kenny credit for it), but it's not that hard to trade away Jeff Liefer. I hated the Vazquez trade from day 1 because of Young, even if Vasquez is good this year, he was still looking average-below average in the NL, and we gave away a few potential relievers. Hate Viz as much as you want but his stats got inflated (in the bad way) and he was great to eat up innings. And I figured El Duque could be moved to the pen or traded again while BMac took the starting job. The worst part for me was also throwing in Young though, and it hurts to see all the multi HR games and the promising articles. The .avg/obp is bad, but it's still his rookie year, already close to 30/30, and he'd be good in the outfield. And Ari has plenty of young talent, yet they don't give up on him, wish we would've been as patient with some of our guys
  14. I don't see how he says Ozzie can get an A. First, he said it was hard to manage a losing ball club. Huh? Then he mentioned something about not quiting. BS, listen to some postgame interviews, PK, AJ, etc quit a long time ago. Just because some guys hit some HRs doesn't tell me they don't quit, they're always looking out for themselves, to get payed in the future, of course they're going to try for their individual stats. Even if you take some of that stuff out, there have been some horrible decisions. Anderson as a DH? What? I remember Hawk actually indirectly ripping (hard) Ozzie on messing up on the infield defense, I think it was against Cle but I'm not sure. Not to mention a stupid comment or two every once in a while (even JR was baffled at the Thome leadoff thing), so yeah, an A is bulls***.
  15. Rongey is fine, I've heard him rip the team before, but he has to keep some sanity, have you ever heard some of the f***ing morons that call that postgame show?
  16. http://www.670thescore.com/episode_downloa...ontentId=966423 -Admits Uribe and Contreras are having bad years -"Who says Jon Garland is getting more money than Buehrle?" More contract/3 yr stuff - Gives Ozzie an A. Says even though it didn't work out, told Kenny that he thought this was his best offseason (shocking!) - North trying to make something out of nothing for DJ taking a week off - Thought Crede was making a mistake at the time by not having surgery - Clearly implies having Thome as a lead off man would be baffling - Trying to cover for Ozzie by saying they need to see Jose pitch to figure out what's wrong, he thinks Jose is tipping pitches but they haven't been able to figure it out yet
  17. Ha. So it's okay that other countries don't accept football. Umm, first that's assuming that all the other countries in the world are poor, with not being able to afford equipment. And even if that was the case, you could break it down to needing one ball (any type) and you're good to go, it happens in recess everyday. Meanwhile baseball needs the ball, bat, maybe gloves depending on what the kids want . Same thing applies to the 'complicated rules'. Both sports have versions with similar rules popular abroad anyways. But yeah, with the international aspect of the game, we already know it is popular in other countries as well...I should just give up now. I don't care if people don't like the sport, I'm used to it since I like soccer, and everyone has probably sounded like that to some diehard fan for a sport they hate, for me it is probably with golf, nascar, and wnba. But yeah, as pointed above, it's such a piece of crap piece. No real reasons or anything, and then some BS pulled out of his ass to try and support it, does almost seem like a joke.
  18. That is the rumor on his Wikipedia discussion page
  19. I don't mind this move as long as he is the DH next year. Nothing against Thome, but you have to give up something good to get anything, go out and get a nice return KW
  20. Come on Yost, get some strip tease cut out of Uecker or something, loosen your team up I think STL will prevail, which is sad with that pitching
  21. I would love to see Contreras get shipped back to the pen and have guys like Masset, Broadway, Gio, maybe Egbert make some starts, like an extra spring training, except under the lights in the big show, see what we have. Do you think Kenzie will do this? Seems obvious to me at this stage of the game, but then again, Erstad is still getting regular playing time
  22. s***ty game, mainly disappointed in Thornton not having it. This thread was hilarious though. I wish a lot of you were in the stock market so you could help me make a ton of money. Talk about Sell low buy high. Let things play out. Way too much overanalyzing of every little thing. If a pitcher throws a ball 'send him to AAA!', Iguchi hits a HR 'Ozzie was right, down in the order was great!' Context, and realize there are other factors instead of jerking off to stats all the time. Yes, I'm sure we are done now, and Adam Dunn will hit 300 HRs too, while Gil Meche wins the Cy Young. A lot easier to second guess too. My favorite part was the guy who questions my manhood for not criticizing the team and second guessing in the 2nd inning then offering expert nuggets like 'it's better to put the ball in play than strike out', or the result of an AB or pitch showing if the player 'came to play' or not. At least bring it to the chat so it isn't documented that all these Sox fans look like idiots or 14 year olds that have never watched baseball before when other fans look back at these. Thanks for the entertainment this afternoon.
