  1. Nice outing by Tracey tonight.... never saw 97 though. Where did you see that reading Tom? Fields had two errors, both throwing. One was after a very nice play when he threw it trying to hurry to complete a DP after getting up off the ground and touching 3B. The other was the same, only he didn't have to go to the ground to field it, but he was trying to rush to finish off a DP that would have ended the game. Young looked good at the plate. Even in his two strikeouts, he was right on the pitcher. In his last at bat, 2nd K, he fouled a couple of pitches straight back that he just missed hitting a mile. Sweeney has a nice swing, but looks overmatched on fastballs inside. I am surprised any team pitches him anywhere else.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) I will be amazed if they ever tour again. But yes, they are one of the single greatest bands of all time, and I'd give a kidney to see them. But you know what? Personally, I doubt it would top the U2 show I saw @ Conseco Fieldhouse on their Elevation tour...managed to get myself front row right in front of Adam Clayton...Bono spoke to me, etc. I know some of you don't like U2, but I love them, and that was one amazing show. I saw U2 at the Hoosier Dome on the Joshua Tree tour. Easily the most energetic, emotional, concert I have been to. Awesome show! Thousands of people were still singing 40 in the streets of downtown Indy 30 minutes after the show was over.
  5. FWIW, I figured out how to dominate the recruiting in last year's game. Within a year, I can take any team (did it with Indiana) and they will have the #1 recruiting class in the country. I have run dynasties for Michigan, Indiana and Notre Dame and other than the first year for Indiana and Notre Dame, the only time I didn't have the #1 class in the country (usually 6-8 five-star players and the rest 4-stars) was when Michigan was on probation and I could only get 11-13 players per class............
  6. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) For whoever asked (I think it was Heads), Young was drafted in 2001 out of High School, which would make him about 22 right now. He turns 22 just after the season is over. Born in September 1983. Sweeney was born in February 1985.
  7. I have to disagree with you on Sweeney, dan....... Sweeney's numbers may not be opening eyes, but those that watch him play see a future major league baseball player. I too am concerned about the lack of run production, but Sweeney is the 2nd youngest player in the league and is a season behind Chris Young, yet still playing at the same level after playing at a higher level last year. The Sox have pushed Sweeney, probably a little faster than he is ready for in terms of production. But if he has the maturity to deal with the struggles and the ability to make adjustments, then Sweeney will take off soon. I really think that Sweeney should repeat AA next year and you will see a totally different player. Scouts that watch him play, see this and know this. I guarantee you that Sweeney's stock has much less to do with numbers at this point than what the eyes can see. ---------------------------------- As far as comparing the two, I think it is difficult because they are different players and because of Sweeney's youth. Sweeney is a year and a half younger. Young has great potential and I think he is somebody worth getting excited about, as long as you are willing to risk being disappointed. I think Young has the potential to be the best of the three Sox OF prospects, but also the greatest chance of failing to reach his potential. We have three really solid OF prospects and another sleeper in Owens. If one is traded, I don't think it will really be a reflection on which the Sox liked least.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) I've heard his stuff is nasty. I think he will be the real deal. I like Sowers a lot, but I wouldn't call his stuff nasty. He has good stuff, but his main asset is he can throw the ball into a teacup almost at will.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 06:04 AM) If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the middle of my second season and have 30,000 seats and just about every food stand and store. Maybe you should try raising your ticket prices and food prices, but not too high or nobody will come. I had every food stand and found that my concession expenses were way too high. I sold back two of every vendor/stand, other than the specialty stands and started making much more money immediately. If you think about it, the stadium has an ultimate capacity of around 50,000 seats. At that point you will need every food stand. Until then, your expenses are too high and your revenues will not support them until you can fill all the seats. I have 33,000 seats by the way.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) It IS ironic those rednecks for beating the s*** out of each other goes to jail, but the players just skate away, sit for 5, and come back out. But what about boxing? It's legal. In fact, encouraged? Or karate contests? Oh, self defense. Hockey, in the United States, is probably the most misunderstood game we have. It's all about image, as we've touched on in these last few posts, and hockey has a terrible image. JR's comments don't help, to be sure. However, I don't want someone in the stands like someone else in this thread sitting there saying "f*** HOCKEY", and that is exactly what JR was trying to say in an absolutely s***ty way. Edit: what about baseball brawls (on the field)? They happen... do these people go to jail? No. It's the same thing - "it's a part of the game sometimes" is what you hear, so why is it different (besides you think that hockey is marketed that way)? Boxing is fighting....... its regulated and they wear gloves. You don't have to like it, but at least you know what it is. The fighting IS the sport. Karate, basically the same thing.... Baseball brawls are very different in that they are very rare. They are unfortunate and most of the time caused by idiot players that charge the mound for no reason (or at least stupid ones)..... Brawls are not part of the game. Never have been, never will be. They happen, yes. But they are not the reason people go to games. They are considered incidents, not a part of the game.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) That's an ignorant view, and one that clearly states the image problem hockey has. You said it well, Rex, and that's hockey's biggest problem. IMO, hockey has more nuances behind the game to be appreciated then any other sport - altough I will say that baseball nuances come close. There's so much of a "game within the game" in hockey, and 99% of the people don't get that. Most true "fans" don't either. The NHL has a huge problem on its hands, it did before the lockout, and it has even moreso of a problem now. It's statements like Rex made that have to be overcome. The "the game is about fighting" thought has to be eliminated. Hell, I promote a site that counters everything that you know about a "goon". On the ice, that is what he is perceived to be, but he's anything but, and is probably one of the most charitable guys you will ever see. BTW, where was Roenick when these statements were made? AT A CHARITY EVENT. These people have little or no money, yet they still give what they can. Oh, but hockey players are assholes. Whatever. Kap, if it is really an image problem as you say, then you are 100% correct that it needs to be cleaned up. I still state and stand behind it, that half the fans that go to games would not go if there was not the possibility of a fight every single night. I know fighting in the NHL is not as bad as it once was, but for me, if fighting is "part of the game" then the game needs help. I can't and won't accept a game that in essence condones it and deems it necessary to an extent. I know there are people that love hockey for different reasons, and that is cool. I am not knocking anyone for enjoying the game itself, its the beer soaked rednecks that come alive as soon as a fight starts and all the talk about while walking out of the arena after the game is the ass kicking somebody got, that I can't deal with. I have been to enough games to know there are lots of them out there, enough that if they quit coming, hockey would have a hard time standing on its own two feet.
  12. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Why is this board so enamored with BAJ. Why isn't every scout in the country looking at this guy? Why doesn't anyone want to trade for him? Its because he is not good enough for the majors.Again its my opinion but outside of this board, nobody in the country cares about this guy. So you have talked to every scout in the country and know this for a fact? I promise you every scout in the country wasn't looking at Gary Majewski and Matt Guerrier, but both are doing just fine in their respective roles in the Majors right now. All it takes is one scout to see something in you and the right fit and timing in the bigs. Baj deserves that shot if a spot opens up. Plain and simple. He has not done anything to show he has not earned it.
  13. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:29 AM) Maybe, but you can only hope the kid has finally figured it out. The Sox realize that Baj is probably not going to be more than an average middle reliever in the bigs. Meanwhile, Jenks has the potential to be an amazing closer (94 MPH SLIDER?!). there is no 94mph slider....... he throws a hard breaking 12-6 curveball. It is nasty yes, but a 94 mph slider, no
  14. Oh, and a Nolan Ryan bat too.........
  15. I have full size bats from them with Wrigley, Fenway, Turner Field and Mickey Mantle on them. Might have more, but can't remember what all I have in my closet. I know those guys well. I also have a bat with a photo from the Barons 2002 SL Championship on it. It's pretty cool. One of these days, I should display this stuff. LOL
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) That explains it. I figured there was no way you could be wrong. (and I'm not being sarcastic lol). I just looked up his signing date, that's all. lol August 19, 2001 for those keeping score at home.
  17. I'll chime in here even though I know I will be in the minority....... My view on hockey is this........ If a sport relies on activities that would get one thrown in jail if done on the street, then to me the sport itself is not strong enough to stand on its own two feet. And don't give me the crap that fights are not important or necessary in hockey, because without them, half the fans don't come to games. Give me the "true hockey fans" argument all you want, but plain and simple there aren't enough of you without the fights unless you all move to Canada. If hockey could be played regularly without the blood and guts, without the goons whose specialty is to pick fights then perhaps I could take it seriously. Until the fans stop standing up and cheering as soon as two guys face off pounding the s*** out of each other and fans don't say things like "yeah, this is what I have been waiting for", then count me out. The NHL has become about as irrelevant as a "major" sport can become. Those of you that are hanging on, are doing so with very few people behind you.
  18. Monroe and Killingsworth both came from Auburn after Cliff Ellis was fired. Monroe is not flashy, but a "get the job done" type. I don't remember a lot about his shooting ability, but I do not that he got some recognition around the SEC as a junior. Killingsworth is the real deal. When I saw Auburn play live twice two years ago, Killingsworth is the guy that stood out, often times as the best player on either team. Killingsworth is a wide body (about 6'7 or 6'8) with a soft left handed shooting touch. He will mix it up inside and rebounds very well. he can also play with his back to the basket. From 15 feet in, he is very productive offensively. I just don't remember as many details about Monroe as I do Killingsworth, who stood out big time. Hopefully, Monroe can handle the point in a workmanlike manner and feed the ball inside.
  19. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) According to baseball cube he was drafted in 2001 and first played for Arizona in 2002. Link He didn't sign until August the year he was drafted, hence him not playing that year. But he still spent two 2002 and 2003 in rookie ball and 2004 in low A.
  20. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Work has been super busy, and just got back from a week down south, Springfield Missouri and Louisville. People up here in Minny think it is humid, need to send them down there for a week, heh. Just enjoying the season, has not been too much to post, I used to like to link the boxes for minor league teams, but these guys normally get them up in decent fashion, and cover it well enough I do not have much to add. Trying to get Rex up for a ballgame, I might try to make one in early August. Saw them for 2 games early this season, might even have been opening week. I'm tryin damnit, but Southwest won't give me a decent freakin fare up there!!
  21. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Young missed his 1st season due to broken leg, he has 1 more year in than Sweeney actually. correct? Ummmm NO, where the hell did you get that?
  22. LOL Kap, all I can say is that this doesn't surprise me at all. Scrushy had the most expensive set of lawyers since OJ and it was not hard to see he would get off. I got so sick of the coverage around here I stopped watching. I don't believe for a second he was innocent. He just got found not guilty. There's a difference, I guess........ The only good thing about all of this is that several people I know made a mint buying Healthsouth stock when it plummeted. Unfortunately, I had just bought a house at the time and had no extra capital. I have one friend that bought 10,000 shares at 32 cents each. I believe it is trading at about $6 now? Not bad for a $3,200 investment.
  23. I figured Mike was kind of old........ but hey, he could probably still outhit Crede. I say bring him out of retirement!!
  24. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) I am stunned at the Grounds crew in NC calling this game a little before 12:00 saying wet grounds no tarp was on the field this is the second time the grounds crew have done this to the Barons. Some teams and front offices just suck........ no other way to put it.
  25. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) Come on Rex, you know Young is going to be the better major leaguer. He very well may........ in fact, I'd love it if he is a great Major Leaguer... the potential is certainly there. But when comparing the two, let's not forget that Young is two baseball seasons ahead of Sweeney. What would Sweeney be doing if he was still in rookie ball or low A?
