  1. Souonds like a bunch of "He said, she said" crap. I wouldn't read much into it. Maggs could have asked one of the Pads players what it was like to play in SD and mentioned he liked the city. Could have been as simple as that.
  2. I don't get the infatuation with Weaver. He's never been any better than Danny Wright or Jon Garland. So he has "potential" and played for the s***ty Tigers. Wright and Garland both have the same and have played for the s***ty White Sox the last two years (no offense). Weaver showed some potential last year with the Yankees, but so what. Wright was as good or better during the same time frame last year. If you want to get a pitcher, get somebody better than we already have. It was the same damn deal when KW dealt for Todd Ritchie. He was no better than Kip Wells. Plus we gave up Josh Fogg and Sean Lowe to boot. The more I look at it, the more I look for a reason to convince me that Jeff Weaver would be a good addition, I find NONE.
  3. Old news man... Gotta keep up around here.
  4. Nope, they are still on the road. The Barons opened up the second half (when Reed joined them) on a 15-day, 13-game roadtrip. Tonight (if they play) is the last night of that trip. They return home tomorrow, so give me a few days.
  5. Gammons has said that the Mets will pick up ALL of his salary and thats why both the Expos and the Royals are in it along with us. I'm sorry to tell you this fans but it looks like Cotts won't be here bye the end of the week. It seems that his name has come up in talks for both Alomar and Weaver and if we trade for either one Cotts will be the one going to the other team. I like Cotts but this is the nature of the game. You have to give something to get something. I don't think the Mets would ever take a trade of Rios, DJ, and a propest for Alomar, because well they aren't getting thing back to help them except for maybe DJ. I think the best deal for us would be DJ and Rauch for Alomar. But as of last night it looks like it will be Cotts for Alomar. I think that would be a huge mistake. Trading Cotts for a 3-month rental player is not smart. If KW has the balls to call their bluff, the Sox have other players that can be traded.
  6. Redman is on a one year deal for $1.05 million. My guess is he is somewhere in his arbitration years.
  7. Two things.... 1. Aaron Hill was a 1st Rounder and came from LSU; Nanita was a 14th Rounder and from Florida International.. Self-explanatory, I think 2. Heather, do understand that the Prospect Hot Sheet changes weekly. It is more a list of prospects that are hot or cold. Who is on the list fluctuates greatly from week to week.
  8. Rowand had an RBI single, walked and scored a run...... Not a night to be looked down upon
  9. Did you notice Neal Cotts on the Honorable Mention list as well?
  10. Yep, but can only take two per team. Plus, the Major League team also has input in who is selected. Word is the Sox wanted the players closer to the bigs in the game, instead of younger players.
  11. Pierre doesn't make a lot of money so there is no need for him to be included in any payroll dump. Does someone know why Florida might be wanting to move him? I have not heard him included in any reports, except on here. Is this a matter of guys on here seeing a CF they like and a team that may want to trade some players, hoping that they match up?
  12. Yup, very accurate on Holt.
  13. Does him a lot of good on a team that doesn't steal bases and doesn't preach aggressive baserunning. LOL
  14. Keep in mind that a lot of information out there can easily be disinformation to. GM's use Gammons by telling him what they want him to tell everyone else. If they want to push a team to make a deal then they will tell him what is going on so that the other team feel's the need to react. If they want to deflect attention from one area they can feed him something else.
  15. I'm surprised Kris Honel's name hasn't come up. I wouldn't trade him either, but would consider giving up Ryan Wing in the right deal. I just don't think Weaver is the right deal.
  16. The bottom line is not what the Expos or Royals are offering, but what the Mets GM can make KW think they are offering. If he can convince him that everybody has a better offer on the table unless they get Cotts, then KW will have to decide to call his bluff and offer someone else or pull the trigger and hope it works out. It's just a poker game right now. Let's see if KW can handle himself.
  17. If I recall corrrectly, the Sox thought they had a deal done for Ortiz. I can't remember what held it up. If it was just that Atlanta came in and made a stronger offer or if it was something else.
  18. Big difference there. Cotts is a top prospect and Biddle, although he is now having success, was nothing more than a spare part who the Sox never found a role for. He would never have been given the opportunity to close with the Sox, so the comparisons to how he is doing now don't work. Cotts is a potential top of the rotation starter and a LH. The Sox have enough depth that they can hold onto Cotts. I guess we'll see how good of a poker player KW (or whoever is making the decisions) is and we'll see if they will hold out and not give out too much.
  19. I don't see the infatuation or the need, rather, for Jeff Weaver. The Sox starters are near the top of the AL in quality starts and that includes MB's first half. If Buehrle has a solid 2nd half and Loaiza doesn't bottom out, I think Colon, Garland and Wright will only be better. Especially if the offense picks it up. You can certainly make a case for Alomar. But I just don't see it with Weaver.
  20. Why would the Marlins want to deal Pierre? Also, the reason for moving Mike Lowell is that they have a replacement ready to go in Miguel Cabrera.
  21. Yea, I was joking about Jimbo's. I just thought because the area gets such a bad rap as being so dangerous maybe JR might have "suggested" Paulie move around there to try and help get rid of that perception. Hey.. Jimbo's is great for a few pre-game beers. Just no dancing or eye candy in there So could he not have changed since getting engaged? Perhaps he doesn't do those kinds of things at home anymore? They go out together every weekend they are in town Rex. And don't try to BS me... guys change just because they get engaged..? Paaallleeaasseee. If men are breathin'.. they're lookin'. It is fair to assume that when a guy gets engaged he goes out less, don't you think? Especially if she is in the same city. Now what goes on when they are on the road might be a different story.

  23. My question is, why would the Jays want to move Shannon Stewart. They are winning and in a pennant race. Why move a guy hitting over .300 with a .360 OBP? The Jays have been trying to or rumored as such, to move Stewart for about three years now. What is it about him that makes them want to get rid of him? Something about him scares me.
  24. If we offered arbitration.......
  25. Is it me or is there love in the air???
